The obligatory “NORAD tracking Santa” post

He’s over the Congo as I write this, having recently made stops in Baghdad, Istanbul, and er, Saudi Arabia, where celebrating Jesus’s birthday in public is apt to land you in prison. Glad to see he made it out okay. It’s worth clicking on the little video look-ins, especially the one with the Pyramids. Did I miss something on the map, though, or did Santa skip Israel this year?
There may or may not be posts tonight. In case not, treat this as your holiday open thread. Below you’ll find something to put you in the mood; Ace’s version is more technically impressive, I grant you, but the music for this one is more seasonal. Whatever your preference, rest assured that you’re helping to kill the planet.
Finally, and fittingly, a wee lump of coal in the stocking courtesy of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Even on Christmas Eve, Republicans can’t catch a break.

It is such a night for those children who still believe in Santa. I choose to celebrate the Birth of my Savior Jesus. A very Happy Birthday Jesus. To those here who are Christians, Merry Christmas, to the Jewish, Happy Hanukkah, to those not sure, hope you find what you need in your life. Just enjoy life, it is short lived.

Merry Christmas to the Malkins, the Pundits (??), the Morrisseys, and to all of you commenters who make this such a fun and educational place to hang out.
Where’s MB4? Surely there’s an appropriate Sam Clemens quote for the occasion. Maybe this one will suffice:
Love to all, and safe travelling to all of you who have to do so over the holidays.

Luke 2:1-7
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Scribbler on December 24, 2008 at 7:31 PM
In case you’re wondering, I’ve just posted something Saint (’Santa’) Nikolaus (’Klaus’ being a short form), bishop of Myra read to his people this night long ago in the early third century.
Oh, and that bit about Quirinius? He was the nearest Roman official who would have been charged with the duty of organizing the census. Judea was in those days ruled indirectly by Rome, though the ethnarchy of Herod. It’s just a little detail from the text of Luke that lends credence to its veracity.
Right, it’s nearly time for me to begin my preparations for the evening’s ‘Lessons and Carols’ at the church.
Have a wondrously blessed Christ Mass as you celebrate our Lord’s nativity.

cannonball on December 24, 2008 at 7:40 PM
Guinness may be unsuitable for a vegetarian diet, as the production process involves the use of isinglass, made from fish. It is used as a fining agent for settling out suspended matter in the vat.[21] The isinglass is retained in the floor of the vat but it is possible that minute quantities might be carried over into the beer.[22]
That’s why it tastes bette there…

Yeah, what a great present. Yet another reminder of substandard commenter who gets mentioned constantly for no apparent reason whatsover. It’s sad. I’ve seen a lot of good commenters drop off over the last couple of years and wondered what happened to them; all diaperrash ever did was derail threads and make an a** of himself predicting a McCain victory and he comes up more often than a bad enchilada dinner. Enough.
