I feel bad for these folks but having spent a good portion of my military service in 3rd world cesspools of Africa and Central America it’s my opinion that most of these conditions are brought upon by the accepted culture of corruption, combined with a lack of general education and even laziness.

Come to think of it even in the industrialized nations I served in corruption was rampent but just not as overt. We (the US) really are an exception when it comes to the level at which corruption seeps thru our society.

Unfortunately, the peculiar chauvinism of liberal multi-culturalism prevents them from acknowleding the realities of failed states, or the minimal requirements for stability and human rights. Since it is an accepted tenet of their faith that Western culture is no better than any other, and is actually uniquely *worse* than all others, it follows that no non-Western state is beyond help in its current form. It’s just a matter of throwing money at them in the form of foreign aid, which the apparatchiks of the U.N. are always eager to push for, since they gain power and fortune by administering it. (Just ask Kofi and Kojo Annan.)

It is unthinkable to challenge the actual results of all this foreign aid, or the legitimacy of a nation-state, even a comprehensive disaster like Zimbabwe. All problems of starvation and violence are a result of insufficient Western generosity – remember how quick the U.N. munchkins are to call Americans “stingy.” It’s exactly the same combination of hostility and irresponsibility you get from any member of a dependency class, from lifelong welfare recipients to substance abusers.

Fortunately, the modern Democratic Party is riding to the rescue, by making America as courrpt and degenerate as the average African basket case. One-party rule, absurd levels of vote fraud and corruption, state control of industries, hereditary ruling families, and a sycophantic media… it’s the African safari you never dreamed of taking.

there should also be benchmarks placed on the aid, e.g., the government is required to meet certain benchmarks in the building of agriculture to feed the people, the building of an infrastructure (hospitals, schools, etc.) and the creation of industry and services that will create jobs and individual wealth.

If the country’s government does not meet the agreed benchmarks then they are not eligible for additional aid until the benchmarks are met….period!

Face it, if any of these governments were even remotely capable of achieving anything like a ‘benchmark’, their citizens wouldn’t be starving to death in the first place.

As Rush Limbaugh is fond of saying: there isn’t a shortage of money in the world; there is only a shortage of FREEDOM. Before we send a penny of aid, we have to send in the Marines; gut the regime that’s in place now, and set up a provisional government that will enforce individual property rights.

Without that, these countries will never be able to feed themselves.

I completely agree that our aid to them is a big part of the problem. What’s the old adage, “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime” something like that anyway.

Ah yes, isn’t it great that we send millions of dollas in aid only to have the government call America EVIL! Talk about adding insult to injury!

What our government needs to do is specifically stipulate that all financial aid requires the country’s government to ensure the aid goes where it should and not in their own pockets (something that is probablly already in place) however there should also be benchmarks placed on the aid, e.g., the government is required to meet certain benchmarks in the building of agriculture to feed the people, the building of an infrastructure (hospitals, schools, etc.) and the creation of industry and services that will create jobs and individual wealth.
