Video: New York Democrats, Republicans dump all over Caroline

posted at 12:05 pm on December 22, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

The bipartisan feelgood video of the year, starting with Rep. Gary Ackerman from the left lamenting the “Sarah Palin-ization” of a woman with no record and Reps. Tom Reynolds and Peter King from the right pushing the aristocracy angle to frame the GOP’s line of attack against her in 2010. One point I haven’t heard anyone raise yet: Precisely because Caroline’s vulnerable on the latter point, Senate Democrats will be forced to shore up her credibility right away by giving her a high-profile role on prominent legislation — and it’s not hard to guess what that legislation will be. Everyone comfy with an absolute novice being thrust into an area of policy that’s famously complex? Hillary was going to play point man on health care for Teddy had she remained in the Senate; now, ironically, it’ll probably be her replacement, at least for purposes of photo ops.

The NY1 anchor at the end says he hears the appointment is a done deal, but don’t underestimate the backlash: Suddenly Paterson’s chatting with Rep. Steve Israel about the job. Quote:

A Democratic congressman, meanwhile, told The Post that he received a call from a Kennedy representative last week seeking his endorsement, a move he called “pathetic.”

“It’s pathetic that Caroline doesn’t even make the call herself,” said the congressman, who refused the requested endorsement.

Isn’t that what valets are for?

Isn’t her last name Schlossberg? Why are they using Kennedy or at least a hyphen?

mindhacker on December 22, 2008 at 12:11 PM

Sarah Palin-ized? By that does Ackerman mean the limited access that he goes on to cite for Kennedy, or the absurd exaggeration of background and qualification that Kennedy is benefitting from – but which would seem to be the literal opposite of what Palin encountered?

Jaibones on December 22, 2008 at 12:12 PM

Give it to the 41,948th person in the Boston phone book, who is exactly as qualified and would do exactly the same job as Princess.

Akzed on December 22, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Palin is a self made mayor and Governor.
What were you doing at the age of 44 Gary Ackerman?
Jealous much?

RobCon on December 22, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Are the democrats insane? They desperately need to fill the empty suit slot left open when America voted in B. Hussein Obama for POTUS. Besides, this will give them a queen to vote for in 2016. :oP

DannoJyd on December 22, 2008 at 12:14 PM

Senate; not House of Lords. It is a treat to see bed wetting Democrats attacking Caroline along with every other honest commentator.

RobCon on December 22, 2008 at 12:16 PM

Rudy. Step up!

RobCon on December 22, 2008 at 12:16 PM

The mistaken assumption in all of this is that we have a government of the people.

The fact is, our country has turned into an aristocracy.

Obama could never have been elected without the press hiding his background. The people would have never decided to bankrupt themselves by lending trillions of dollars to deadbeats who would never pay it back. and on and on

Look at all the clowns that get “elected”. Elections mean nothing.

Of anyone, certainly NY democrats should know that.

notagool on December 22, 2008 at 12:17 PM

I’ll take Sweet Caroline over Gary Ackerman.

lodge on December 22, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Actually I’d like to see Princess Caroline take an active role in helping to socialize health care. This way we can be sure that it’ll fail as miserably as Hillarycare and I’ll get to keep my good health plan rather than being stuck with an awful gov’t one. :)

Illinidiva on December 22, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Between this and the Blago-Rhama story, I find myself chuckling all day long. Thanks Dems!

HawaiiLwyr on December 22, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Caroline had no business getting a seat in the Senate. She has done nothing. Just because she was a Kennedy, she is far from being like her father. JFK was truly admired. The rest of them, are worthless. She needs to stay home and bake cookies. Maybe Martha Stewart could hire her for domestic help……..

sheebe on December 22, 2008 at 12:21 PM

“She’s never been to an American Legion Hall, Knights of Columbus Hall, Masonic Lodge or Synagogue to answer questions……..”

Yep – I am SURE those are places high on her list of places to go for a photo op. To mix with the commoners… not likely.

tru2tx on December 22, 2008 at 12:22 PM

I wouldn’t mind Senator King in 2010. Wouldn’t mind that one bit. Go ahead and give the seat to Princess Caroline. We’ll take it easily in 2010.

D2Boston on December 22, 2008 at 12:27 PM

Ackerman’s heart is in the right place on this one but his addiction to the NYT is evident in his slam on Governor Sarah Palin. I guess when all you read are lies told by the NYT-led MSM you believe the lies are the truth. Even if I agreed that Palin was too inexperienced for the #2 slot her governing experience would certainly qualify her for the Senate. She has more experience now then Obama had in 2004 when he ran for the Senate the first time. On this there can be no dispute. There is a reason why Governors rank higher on the national protocol list then Members of either house of Congress. Senators and representatives have no responsibilities other then show up for committee assignments and vote. Governors and even small town Mayors have things to do.

This is New York we are talking about.
We could run MB4’s dog for that seat, and if he were a Democrat, he’d win in a landslied.

In short, the only reason he’s an icon was because he was martyred.

Does anyone think that if Caroline Kennedy had been mixed up at birth with another baby and had been brought home by Joe and Sally Whatsawhosit that anyone would even be considering appointing her to the city council of Podunk, MI?

I love it. The Dems can’t help themselves. They have it all for the first time since the ‘94 midterms and they can’t stop themselves from stepping into it before they even take power.

Hopefully the backlash will last until 2010, and our side has a consistant, conservitive message.

If ‘mere’ US representatives are beneath Princess Caroline’s station now, who is going to be worthy of an audience once she gets annointed?

“The last thing we need is a People Magazine celebrity.”

Newsflash: There is one entering the White House in January. Sure wish we had this sort of collective outrage when the community organizer in chief was running for office these (democrats) ought to feel ashamed for their contradictory standards for men and women. But, as it is, we are talking about democrats here. I’ve given up on trying to hold them to any modest level of honest consistency.

Mommypundit on December 22, 2008 at 12:40 PM

The Empress has no clothes. If she is so qualified, why won’t she answer any questions? Amazing, even some Democrats don’t think she is qualified. Sounds like her appointment could actually cause a split in the NY Democrat Party.

MarkTheGreat on December 22, 2008 at 12:28 PM

I’ll agree with you on this point, and add to it.

The lottery winner should be required to place all assets in a triple blind trust before he/she takes office, can only serve 2 terms and is not eligible to be win the lottery again.

BTW, at the end of the time in office they get their assets back out of the trust and there is not retirement, after all this is supposed to be ’service to the country’. There is no need to continue to pay for services that are not rendered.

Unfortunately we got “The Great Society” from that generation of democrats and we are still paying for it.

The reason JFK is remembered as being so great is because he was the first of the ‘New American Aristocracy’ to be elected to public office and the American Press was given something to write about. After all, there wasn’t a ‘Watergate’ to investigate and the Republicans were in remission in those days. The whole ’socialite’ culture was front and center and it was a great relief from the boring Eisenhower years.

belad on December 22, 2008 at 1:37 PM

Peter King is just sad that he wont be the only Irishman in town. Remember NY is perpetually torn between Irish and Italian factions…although there are more italians, the irish find their enclaves (like my hometown of yonkers). King can’t claim the mantle of Irish leader in NY if Ms. Kennedy is our senator.

ernesto on December 22, 2008 at 1:39 PM

Is Ackerman talking about the same Sarah Palin what was more accessible to the media in the last month of the campaign the Barry O or Biden? Because last I remember, ABC and CBS reported on their respective sites that she was.

Oh no, we can’t have that . . . again. We already had one absolute novice (First Lady Hillary Clinton) screw up the issue once before, and now we’ll have yet another absolute novice, PE Obama, in the White House.

Why don’t we just leave health care alone and admit that none of these people are capable of doing anything but making things infinitely worse than they are now.

Actually, the things that he did right – tax cuts, space, and a generally conservative disposition, contrary to popular Camelot/BS belief – are rarely mentioned by the liberal twits in the press, along with his mob associations, his whoring around, philandering, drug abuse, etc.

Caroline Kennedy has 2 clear advantages.

A,-She’s a Kennedy.

B.-She’s a Democrat.

How could experience be a factor?

irongrampa on December 22, 2008 at 2:33 PM

I find it humorous that her highness won’t answer reporters questions directly and has her handlers call other pols for endorsements. Who the f does she think she is? Oh wait, she is a Kennedy so she thinks the center of the univers is Cape Cod.

New Yorkers are stupid enough to go for this so everyone needs to get used to calling her Senator Princess.

Should I believe MB4, or his lying dog.

Hmm, the dog has proven more reliable over time.

MarkTheGreat on December 22, 2008 at 2:47 PM

Anyone who tried to “Sarah-Palinize” Caroline Kennedy would be doing her a BIG favor. By birth, Caroline Kennedy is the daughter of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who mourned at his funeral in 1963, and passed into quiet oblivion while her mother married Aristotle Onassis.

But the daughter of Idaho science teacher Chuck Heath (who?) won a beauty pageant, was a star basketball player, has run marathons, helped her husband run a business, won election to the Town Council and Mayor in her own right, reads technical publications of the oil and gas industry, ousted a sitting Governor of her own party, and negotiated a $40 billion gas pipeline with Canada, with no coattails whatsoever from her family. A true self-made woman.

Sarah-Palinization would bring to Caroline Kennedy what she lacks most: competence.

But as Sarah Palin would gladly tell anyone who will listen, you can’t inherit competence, you learn it and earn it.

I don’t see what the problem is with Shooshberg, or whatever. He have a Kennedy here in Rhode Island who said about tax cuts “What do I care, I have never had a f—–g job”. He is a druggie, drunken, lying crap weasel and is dumber than a box of Lincoln Chaffee’s. We will never be voted out of office as long as the seniors get their cookies in November. Why can’t NY have a Shoosberger-Kennedy of their very own?

So exactly what does a Democratic Senator have to know? The DNC and Harry Reid will tell him/her how to vote and when! Are we to expect a Kennedy to break with Democratic Party Lines and vote with Republicans? Anyone selected for this seat will simply be a rubber stamp for the RATS! Why debate it?

sabbott on December 22, 2008 at 5:51 PM
