Tee hee: Palin’s sort of “palling around” with drug dealers now, notes Olby

An important lesson on guilt by association from a man who surely never would have objected if John McCain had once worked with, say, an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber. I can’t decide which part is my favorite: Is it Kayo comparing The One’s knowing, voluntarily association with a terrorist to Palin being saddled months ago with an in-law who was busted just this week? Or is it him using Palin’s own supposed lack of empathy to declare open season on this story, replete with nasty drug jokes from an actual comedian about what Bristol Palin’s baby should be named? It gets tiresome pointing out Olbypocrisy, but try to imagine his reaction if one of Joe Biden’s in-laws was arrested for possession and O’Reilly spent a segment overtly goofing on it.
Oh, and this being “Countdown,” there’s at least one key detail that’s hugely misleading. Turns out Sherry Johnston apparently wasn’t busted for meth but for oxycontin. Olby could have waited to find that out instead of speculating, but why bother when meth jokes are so much more fun? That’s the Murrow way, after all.
Update: In case it’s not clear, I believe this aired on Thursday night’s show, not last night’s.

Sarah and her family have gone through hell and back ever since she was chosen by McCain, and it has not stopped as you can clearly see. It is a sad situation indeed, and totally undeserving; but hey, Olby is playing his cards out in the open, right?
ProudPalinFan on December 20, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Just be sure not to confuse critic with heretic. It’s a few letters, but there is a difference.

you wonder why this kid drifted towards the Palin family? Maybe because they were a better situation to be around for him. I have read too that he isnt even living at home anymore.

And think about this; when the baby’s born in will come all the pathetic jokes about his looks.
ProudPalinFan on December 20, 2008 at 6:54 PM
The situation is such due to Olbermann being able to not care about “open cards”.
It is quite deserving for someone who wants to front being a “regular person”; yet she acts like she is above doing anything wrong or reporting it if aware.
There will be no St. Palin. Only an idol.

For those of you who believe it is too early to begin the campaign for 2012 you can suck eggs. We cannot begin soon enough to launch the rocket ship called the Sarah Palin express. Obama and the MSM are the enemy. For openly acknowledging that we are unrepentant. We must fight a guerrilla war campaign and do whatever it takes to destroy Obama, the Democratic Party, and the MSM. Whoever is not for us is against us!

What is your problem? How in the world can Sarah Palin be held accountable for something done by her daughter’s future mother-in-law?
I never held Obama’s illegal alien aunt against him. Why should I hold Sarah Palin’s daughter’s future mother-in-law against her?

I will say, however, that there is a huge difference between Obama’s relationship with Ayers and Palin’s relationship with her daughter’s future mother-in-law. Can you not see that?
ramrocks on December 20, 2008 at 7:21 PM
No seth, we don’t think Sarah can do no wrong, but we also believe that she has absolutely nothing to do with whatever it is her daughter’s future mother-in-law has done. But of course, you lefties are too busy snorting cocaine to see that.

Except that you’d be short a few million fingers, or horribly disfigured.
However, the only slings and arrows she’s had to deal with at all are losing an election and having to apologize for a fire.
Yes there is a difference. It is something they should have been able to notice, somehow. She is far from the “common person” that is said to be her but is not.

Remember Sarah’s words in the closing of her debate when she quoted from Reagan: freedom can be lost in one generation if we do not preserve it. Sarah was never more authentic or poignant when she delivered those lines: they should be the rallying cry for the GOP and the millions of conservatives who have turned the corner and now support Sarah 150%.

Dude, you think that having one crazy in-law or extended family member is uncommon? Wow. You must live in “Leave it to Beaver” land.
How exactly is she not a “common person”. I’ll give you fair warning. I used to do wealth assessment research profiles for nonprofits. I can smell “wealth” a mile off and can assess whether or not a person has disposable income for philanthropy. The media published every last detail on the Palin’s income. And after reading it all, it was crystal clear to me that the Palins are solidly middle class — as “common” as dirt.
In fact, long before the RNC clothing story broke, I suspected that she must have been borrowing clothes from someone because I knew that there was no way she could afford those duds on her family’s income.
So, please, tell me what you mean by “common person”.
ramrocks on December 20, 2008 at 7:43 PM
Nah, we don’t think she’s a saint can do no wrong. Some people get too uptight at libs who are scared shitless of her, therefore suffer this compulsion to destroy her. Look at every Palin-related thread on this site, and see the lib participation. Not very many libs participating in discussing the real comedy, i.e., the Blago mess.
Let it all play out. It will be fun.

Saw five minutes on Friday where he used Blago’s speech to bring up President Nixon. The report quality was on a par for high school. A public high school. Or middle school…or maybe…
I like Sarah Palin and resent The One getting the pudding while she got the switch. (Some Dickens there)
The real humor is going to come when the media discovers what they put in office ( a megalomanic who will treat them like the lying tramps they are). They will only realize what they destroyed when it is too late — liberal arts majors only see one side of things.
IlikedAUH2O on December 20, 2008 at 8:07 PM
I love Sarah (but do not think that she is perfect and do not want her running in 2012 unless she continues to show an excellent record in Alaska) and I must say that Bristol Palin is a very pretty girl. However, Sarah and Todd gave all 5 kids weird names. Track, Trig, Bristol, Willow and Piper – they can sue for child abuse!
Hilts on December 20, 2008 at 8:08 PM
What a load of crap. Her family income has gotta be 200k+. She looked great on the campaign trail but to think she could not afford to look like that is silly.
I have dinner with a woman once in a while. She’s a philanthropist, she literally is giving all her money — millions — away before she dies. She dresses garishly.
Another woman I know looks like a million bucks but only shops at second hand boutiques. She buys clothes that women wore once but paid hundreds or thousands for…then she walks around looking great.
When you’re sniffing around for money all the time, you forget to look people in the eyes because you’re so far up their butts.

Has Randy Andy Sullivan weighed in yet with one of his “I am not saying it is true just throwing out a speculation” that Sarah and Bristol are dope peddlers theories?
Hilts on December 20, 2008 at 8:09 PM
I’ll tell you guys something else. The MSM/NY Times crowd also knew that she was solidly middle class. They knew it just like I knew it. They understand wealth assessments. The reporting of the RNC clothing story was b.s. from beginning to end. They suspected just as I did that she got those clothes from someone else. They knew it because they had ran Fashion section articles about the clothes she was wearing. They knew the price of that beautiful silver Valentino jacket she wore when she gave her RNC speech.
It was obvious to anyone with a modicum of knowledge about wealth profiles that she was as middle class as the rest of us Laz-e-boy/BarcaLounger Americans (as Laura Ingraham likes to call us).
To deflect away from this fact they ran an article in which they assessed all of the Palins’ property and assets and came up with a $1 million figure. They included their home in Wasilla (which they still are paying the mortgage on!), a fish shack in Bristol Bay that they use during the commercial fishing season, another hunting cabin in Safari Lake, the old 1952 tin can Piper SuperCub float plane Todd inherited from his grandparents, the commercial fishing license Todd inherited from his native grandmother, Todd’s snowmachines, their family SUV and truck, a few recreational vehicles, and Todd’s 401K. All of that to get to a bare $1 million.
Needless to say, that made me laugh. That $1 million are not assets that are liquid assets! The Palins are comfortably middle class. Many of us could easily come up with a $1 million figure if we tallied up all of our assets. The NY Times knew this, but they ran this b.s. story anyways because the headline alone gave the suspicion that Palin was a “fake” when she claimed she was middle class.

After taxes, their combined income for their best year (it fluctuated from year to year due to the Iron Dog prize money Todd won) came to about $200K. Alaska has one of the highest costs of living in the nation. $200K in Alaska is equivalent to $150K in Akron, OH. I think $150K for a dual income couple with five kids is middle class, don’t you? And that $150K figure should probably be more like $140K since up until September the cost of gas and heating oil in Alaska was threw the roof.
Palin does, in fact, shop at consignment stores just like your friend. However, on the campaign trail, the NY Times ran stories about the fashions she was wearing (this was before the RNC clothing story broke). It was obvious that she couldn’t have purchased them on her income unless she bought them all at that consignment shop, in which case I thought, “dang, that’s an awesome shop! She must have some sort of preferential treatment. Maybe they call her immediately when the best stuff comes in, and she must be really lucky that there is a rich lady in Anchorage who wears the same size.”

And LBJ had faults…and policy problems. They tore him up.
And he wasn’t half as arrogant as our present Messiah. And I honestly believe that The One is not that tactful or adroit on his own. I think He has real mental and interpersonal problems. The Seal, the joke about voting for Him being an Epiphany, the aircraft, the Greek columns, his evaluations of himself and exertions to be at least a legend. As you know, nobody has yet tested Him or annoyed him. The press has to showboat and be a critic. If that happens…

Olby had two choices on this story: criticize Palin for her aloofness or praise her for not getting involved in a government/family matter especially after Trooper/Taser-gate. Of course he chose the one that he felt made her look the worse. At least he is consistent.
BTW, the guest in the show clip was a comedian? Seriously?
Mallard T. Drake on December 20, 2008 at 8:56 PM
I live in California, another place with a not-so-low cost of living. 250k a year with five kids is middle-class. But you’re discounting how nice middle-class living has become. There is not much that one needs that one cannot afford on that income. We’ve become so spoiled we have upgraded middle-class to a level that was once called “well-off” or “upper middle class.”
Stop calling her “common” is my point. That sounds absurd to some single mom or even two parents earning 50k a year. She supposedly speaks to those people — she is not one of them anymore and has not been for a long time.
As far as her shopping on consignment, I doubt she still does. She has an image to uphold — one that speaks to people far away from Wasilla.
But if she still does, you can bet that she has a contact at her favorite and other boutique. My old roommate pays a monthly fee upfront for pick of the litter clothes from second-hand stores that he gets a particular type of item from and then hocks on Ebay. He pays in advance, so he gets the best of the lot — everytime.
Either way, if she can’t afford to look great on her salary she shouldn’t be running sh*t. She just needs, and probably now has a decent image consultant.
Women’s clothes are expensive, yes. But most politicians look like dogmeat. The best dressers are not politicians. She doesn’t need to break the bank to make a fashion statement while making policy.
***
None of this excuses guilt by association crap and trying to muddy her up with a drug bust from her kid-in-law-to-be.

ddrintn on December 20, 2008 at 9:31 PM
Look, I live in California too. We might even be neighbors. I’m certainly not “well off”. I came from a large Catholic family that was lower middle class. The only thing we had going for us was my parents’ firm belief that education is the key to success. In fact, Michelle Obama’s family background is similar to my own. She came from a middle class blue collar family, and her parents made sure that she and her brother had a top notch education, which they believed would lead to a successful future.
Palin’s parents had the same belief. She came from an even more modest background, paid her own way through college, and has earned everything she has. I respect that.
When I use the term “common,” I mean that she had nothing handed to her. She earned what she has. And, yes, she can understand what a person without health care is going through because she and her husband were in that same position for a couple of years when they first got married. They eloped because they couldn’t afford a wedding. Her wedding ring is a $35 little ring that she bought when she was in college.
Most of my siblings now earn as much or much more than the Palins. We’ve made something of ourselves as our parents had hoped and prayed and worked hard to insure.
I think it’s quite awesome that Obama and his wife also came from humble beginnings. However, they have not been “middle class” for some time. The Palins still are.
My point about this “middle class” issue is that the media and the Dems (BIRM) can’t have it both ways. They can’t “praise the working man” and sneer at the fact that Palin couldn’t afford the wardrobe or the hair and makeup people the RNC hired for her. And, yes, all of these expenses were necessary for a woman who was in the national spotlight. These types of expenditures weren’t an issue with other candidates because every other major candidate we’ve seen in recent years has been independently wealthy. (However, we have since learned that using campaign donations for wardrobe purchases is not uncommon in lower level political campaigns — like Congressional races, etc. — basically because those candidates, like Palin, tend not to be independently wealthy.)
I think the very manner in which the expenses were leaked to the press indicates some foul play within the campaign. And I’m not the only one who has noted this.

Oh BS. California is screwing over it’s people. But unlike california, we have to pay out the nose for gasoline everywhere, not just select areas. We also pay 4.50 for heatling oil (which california doesn’t have to deal with much of) and diesel is around 3.59 and up.
We pay higher taxes on our houses then people in California do because we don’t have a tax stop.
And I sure as hell don’t remember paying 4 dollars for a head of lettuce, 4 dollars for a lbs of oranges. How about 3 dollars for a 2 liter of Coke.. or 2.43 for a 1 liter of Coke.
Trucks go for around 35K not including the shipping coast which is 2k to 5k.
Houses… haha… what you all pay for a house is about the same as it is up here. But people pay cheaper twoards the water here and more for mountain houses. I have a friend with a 3.5 million dollar house… and that was when she bought it.
So stop with the crap already. California is dieing!

Every U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator has a higher salary than Sarah Palin. Current salary, not included the massive amount of benefits, for a member of the House is $169,300. The current salary for a U.S. Senator is $183,500. She makes just $125,000 as governor of Alaska.
Please don’t ever assume that the members of Congress (and the majority of them are now Democrats!) have anything in common with the “single mom or even two parents earning 50k a year.” They aren’t one of “those people” and they haven’t been “for a long time.”

Why does it bother you the way I feel about a person in particular? You and I are not *mesmerized* by her, simply put she does nothing wrong and out goes a ton of people and trash her.
That is being biased against someone. Barack Obama is not my favorite person in the world and there is nothing that can be done about the elections; he won, legally or not history will call it in the future. We don’t know about him more than the amount of info that we know of. That bothers me. I bet he is a great dad, but other than that America chose someone questionable with questionable associations. That bothers me too. But I don’t come here to trash him on a daily basis!
On the other hand, here is a woman who is superb at running her state, has surpluses, citizens love her and yet again, any decision she makes or others make that surround her and off we go here with +400 comments! I guess that being a clean politician is inconceivable. Worse, someone that girls and women nationwide can finally look up to as a role model can’t be possible either.
There just has got to be some flaw somewhere about that woman.

I tried to tell him how expensive it is to live up there, but he wouldn’t believe me. ;)

I hope Jeff Zucker has all of his money tied up in this friggin disaster they call a network. Comedy Central does more serious news, accurate reporting and even less sarcastic reporting than Olby. Having comedians on to serve up one liners on the news of the day on a news show? As an authority on what? Being an ass*$#@? They have that demographic covered already.

No, she still does shop at the same Anchorage consignment shop. They interviewed the owner on a number of news shows.

Congress is a country club with health benefits. Palin speaks for people and she speaks loudly with clarity. I also agree with you in that she worked for hers.
I reject the entire lot of the body politic acting like they have to go shopping with the rest of us.

Cali isn’t cheap, but it’s not anything close to AK. You love it right? Then pay for it. I don’t pay for heating oil because we get snow like once a decade. Gas prices suck — only higher in AK and HI. Oh well.
I have a friend who moved up to AK, to get away from her tyrant of a man, and she loves it. High prices don’t mean a thing if you love the place you’re living. None of that changes what I said about Sarah Palin looking hot on the campaign trail.
She will continue to look good on the same salary without the RNC style budget despite the cost of living. She has to; she’s forever on the national stage.
California may be dying to you, but I can see Catalina Island from the backyard and my neighbors are great. I’m going snowboarding tomorrow after a run on the beach. Death becomes me.

At last we agree! I love the Golden State. I don’t care what anyone says about it. To me it’s the most beautiful state in the union — from the Golden Gate to Coronado and everything in between.

why even discuss her cloths> To do so is to get mired in an argument of the lefts making, ignore the nonsense and drive on.

LOL this is so funny. You take a guy…however far removed….and relate him to Obama….but when a drug dealer is directly related to Palin (by a child) it means nothing.
How dare they…..we scream.
I think the idea of made you bed now lie in it applies.

And, to add to the insult, she just turned down a salary increase. Oh, the nerve!

ROFL!! I could keep adding some more here!

That’s why I never made a stink about Obama’s Kenyan family members of illegal alien aunt. I don’t think the actions of a family member should be held against a person. There are black sheeps in every family, and people who live in glass houses…you know the rest.
But there is a big difference between one’s relationship with a family member (you don’t get to choose them!) and one’s relationship with an associate and/or friend (you choose them!). Obama chose to associate himself with Ayers and Rev. Wright. He didn’t have a choice about his aunt or his brother. Palin didn’t have a choice about who her daughter’s future mother-in-law would be. When Palin holds a fundraiser in the home of an abortion clinic bomber or attends a church run by a racist pastor, Keith Olbermann has every right to call her a hypocrite.

That’s what they’d have said if she were a regular Democrat.
I’m not sure that they’d know what to do with one who had actually accomplished what Ms. Palin has accomplished. They’re not used to praising actual competence.

I have always wondered if that was someone behind him (with his approval), just him or he is just the result of several people in an amazing plot that created “Him”.
I recall that Bill Clinton statement, where Barack Obama said something of the sorts of leaving it up to him to sell it (”it”, being a very important issue) but to let him know if “it” was right or wrong.

Boy, Levi’s got to be lucky to be part of the Palin family. He’ll need to man up, maybe even visit the mom in jail or something.
However, it isn’t about him anymore. It’s about his wife-to-be and his baby boy. I hope he gets some support from the Palins. Sarah’s family seems like the type that can roll with the punches of life. My nephew was in a similar position and now he is doing just fine with a great job and two young boys with a great wife.
Regarding Olbermann, he is so pathetic and so fallen that I am actually feeling sorry for the maggot. He and Bill Maher are SO lost. You can really see it in their behavior, beliefs, etc. These guys desparately need their Road to Damascus moment. So cut off from the Creator and his Son. Such need. They say a man must hit rock bottom before he is tossed the Cross for the journey back. Is Keith near that bottom?
