Video: Beloved public servant declares innocence, recites poem

Contain your surprise as a supreme narcissist vows not to let go of power until the “political lynch mob” persecuting him strings him up and takes it from him forcibly. Good news or bad news, do you think? On the one hand, it means the carnival in Chicago will run for weeks or even months more. On the other hand, if he’s fight fight fighting, then he’s not talk talk talking to prosecutors about what he knows about Illinois machine politics.

Only this much is certain: Every presser by a demoralized pol should include a poem. Exit question: Maybe this one for McCain if/when the next amnesty bill gets beaten back?

The fact that his party hasn’t started impeachment proceedings against him yet says a lot.

I could not stop laughing during this! This is going to be so much fun! He was so sure of himself. Makes me think he has some kind of plan. A man of his kind always does. What might it be? I personally can’t wait to see it unfold! Grab yourselves a bowl of popcorn, settle in and get ready for the fun.

Hurting Head on December 19, 2008 at 4:37 PM

The gift that keeps on giving. I hope Pay-Rod can keep this going for at least another 2 years.

Harpoon on December 19, 2008 at 4:37 PM

You know, Blajojevitch may be guilty, but he’s no where near down on the corrupt traitor evil politician scale as McCain.

Can I get an AMRITE?

This calls for a bonus Mark Twain quotation. Or some song lyrics, too.

wise_man on December 19, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Oh and he DOES have rights. He has a right to a fair trial, a right to a defense, etc, etc. I think all the evidence should be released. We should be able to hear it. He is a public official. We have a right to know all of it. Let’s see where the bodies are buried.

It is Illinois/Chicago politics afterall.

Go, Blago! Fight! Don’t take this lying down! Those treacherous motherfrackers in the Illinois Democratic Party need to be taught a lesson…if you’re going down, they should all go down with you!

Jim62sch on December 19, 2008 at 4:41 PM

Mr. Governor, you stated you would not leave a job the people have hired you for – how about listening to 86% of us who want you to resign?
It sickens me that Democrats are not held to the same standards as Republicans. If this were a Republican governor, EVERYONE would be talking non-stop. Just remember how Sarah Palin was trashed for EVERYTHING she did and said… I know she ran for National office, while a governor holds a state office, but it seems that Democrats are not affected by what they say or do… Just look at the new favorite son of Illinois – the holder of the “Office of the President Elect”! He was came from this same environment, even close to this disgraced governor, but first his office did not have ANY contact with the governor’s office, then it did not have any improper contact, I can hardly wait for the next soundbite….
Illinois is in big trouble, we could get out sooner if the governor would resign and let us get back to business, but he is too full of himself to admit that…
We fought him hard here in Illinois when he had that hair brained idea of charging all businesses a gross receipts tax! He even came to our town in downstate Illinois to make his case – brought with him 2 bus loads of union guys from Chicago who stood around the stage and applauded loudly while we, the business owners and other interested people from our community stood in the back – but no matter where we stood, we made sure he understood he was not exactly among friends. He was defeated on this one for that time. He also pushed through this All Kids insurance program – many of us were very much against this as well, but he got that one through. I am in contact with his office and our representative and senator in Springfield – by the way, THAT is our capital, not Chicago – quite a bit, I don’t get any replies from Chicago/Springfield, but I have a good relationship with our representative (Republican) and our senator (Democrat).
I am sad that our state is the laughing stock of the whole nation – we have so much to do without this….

d1carter on December 19, 2008 at 4:56 PM

Somebody had better tell this idiot governor that money doesn’t have to be exchanged for a crime to be committed. Concealing a felony from authorities is a crime punishable up to 3 years of prison.

“Misprision of felony”” is still an offense under United States federal law after being codified in 1909 under 18 U.S.C. § 4:

“Whoever, having knowledge of the actual commission of a felony cognizable by a court of the United States, conceals and does not as soon as possible make known the same to some judge or other person in civil or military authority under the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”

byteshredder on December 19, 2008 at 4:56 PM

While we were waiting for Blah-go to speak, they kept showing a young lady on the side of the stage near the door. Wonder who she is… [just professional interest, mind you]

Mark_Tampa on December 19, 2008 at 4:57 PM

His continuance on the scene is a silent reminder to others he has incriminating information on to apply pressure to stop/ease his prosecution/punishment.

The rules have not changed.

And BHO is a player in this in some way or other. And that is what gives this Hair Club for Men candidate a prayer.

Does the Blago legal team know what’s in all the tapes yet?
Or, are they just stalling, and holding out for a plea deal, if he tells all.

“If the people only knew
If they could visualize
Just open their eyes
Even stop to think about
If they could open their minds
They could get beyond

The world’s a funny place you know
Most of what goes on
Is rarely funny
Rarely funny at all

Could the people understand
In only whispered screams
And colorless dreams
Could they finally comprehend
If they could suddenly see
And suddenly feel

The world’s a funny place you know
Most of what goes on
Is rarely funny
Rarely funny at all”

Where are all of our troll friends to defend him and Rahmster?

hawkdriver on December 19, 2008 at 5:33 PM

I feel for you, cjs 1943 – what a joke in MN as well…
I believe we must start at the bottom – in our towns and counties – and take this government back! It has gone way over the top! But we (maybe not a few of us, but the sad majority) kept saying “it can’t get that bad…” and see where we are! It is apalling to me how many people don’t know anything about our government, or the people that are running it! Today I talked with a client of our office, and he said – and I wholeheartedly agree – we should have a test before we get our ballots! I am from another country, and when I had to take citizenship classes, I knew more about American government than my teacher! But you can’t talk about politics in the workplace, especially if you are the owner of the business! I make sure my employees know both sides of all stories – yes, that takes lots of time, but it IS worth it, because my dream depends on it, and so does their livelyhood!

mkosin on December 19, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Whatever you think of Blago, the man has brass balls. He has hired Ed Genson and is seemingly willing to duke it out in court.

Genson doesn’t tend to pick losers and for all the spin, I’ll be interested to see what plays out in court if it makes it that far.

He’ll talk eventually. It’s just going to stretch all this out longer. You’re going to need lots of popcorn, and you’re in luck: You can stock up on those big tubs of popcorn they sell at the department stores this time of year.

Red State State of Mind on December 19, 2008 at 5:55 PM

Acknowledging his political isolation, he recited the opening lines of the stirring poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling, a writer Winston Churchill was also fond of quoting: “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you …”

Blech. Ayn Rand had this read at her husband’s and her own funeral. This little man ruins a good thing, not that anyone has exclusivity for a poem. They can all have illusions.

I could not tell if this post is about Blago or Obama.

This is a no brainer. Blago seems to be holding some good cards. Everybody knows he needs and wants big money. Since Blago wouldn’t just roll over and quit, Obama and the Chicago machine have to figure out how to get him some cold, hard cash in exchange for his bowing out. I mean, resigning the governorship is for sure “f%#king worth something.” Then, and only then, will Obama and the Machine be safe from all Blago can “sing” about them.

Pass. The. Chips… Guacamole too.

Blago is not guilty. Musing is not a crime.

The prosecutor was afraid to see what the One might say to Blago (sort of like all those people, like Morrisey, who are afraid to look at the long form document). This is a case of a premature prosecution to protect a putative president.

Further this case is unprecedented. Those who think Blago is guilty, should ber in mind that an American Governor has never solicited a bribe from a Kenyan born President-elect.

Blago is not guilty. Musing is not a crime….This is a case of a premature prosecution to protect a putative president.

Basilsbest, I think you are so very prescient! Just talking about wanting to sell the senate seat, like dickering with a prostitute, isn’t a crime. It’s the cash exchange that is, as my young friends would say, “money.”

I love your line about “premature prosecution to protect…” Fitzgeral knows “what side his bread is buttered on,” and has acted accordingly. Fitz, to save Obama, gave Blago his big break, which he is gladly exploiting. No moolah, no crime.

I will fight
I will fight
I will fight
Until I take my last breath
I am dying to show everyone how innocent I am – approximate quote from video

Not the kind of threat to make to a mafia Don

I know there are some powerful forces arrayed against me
I have on my side the most powerful ally there is – the truth

Not the kind of threat to make to a mafia Don

I intend to answer in an appropriate venue a court of law

Spoken like a mafia Don

Blago needs more poetry, like this

Little John Blago
Sat down at Spago
To cut him a a piece of the Pie

He stuck in his thumb
And pulled out the One
And said what a good Tool am I

how about this one

Rahm be nimble
Rahm be quick
Rahm don’t let the wire tap stick

Or we could tarnish Tennyson by turning his ode to Honor into an ode to Chicago

‘Forward, the Light Brigade!’
Was there a man dismay’d?
Not tho’ the soldiers knew
  Some one had blunder’d:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode Seeking the six hundred one who blundered.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
  Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero cushy goverment job fell,
They that had fought lied so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred minus the one who blundered.
