Biden: Pass Obama’s massive stimulus plan or an economic meteor will hit Earth

Either there really are doomsday indicators circulating in Democratic circles or they’re coordinating exceptionally well to panic the public into giving The One whatever he wants, because we’re hearing more of this every day. First there were the anonymous murmurs from inside the transition team about the economy looking vastly worse than they’d anticipated. Then came David Obey this morning ranting how close we are to falling into a “massive, massive hole” unless Bush passes a giant spending package right this instant. And now here’s Greasy Joe, ducking and covering unless we hand Obama upwards of a trillion dollars to save the world:
“The economy is in much worse shape than we thought it was in,” Biden told me during an exclusive interview — his first since becoming vice president-elect — to air this Sunday on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
“There is no short run other than keeping the economy from absolutely tanking. That’s the only short run,” Biden told me…
“Every single person I’ve spoken to agrees with every major economist. There is going to be real significant investment, whether it’s $600 billion or more, or $700 billion, the clear notion is, it’s a number no one thought about a year ago,” he said.
In fairness, Nouriel “Dr. Doom” Roubini also thinks at least a $500 billion stimulus is needed to keep things moving as private consumption evaporates. Does the increasingly alarmist rhetoric make it more or less likely to happen, though? As a pessimist, I’m supposed to eat this stuff up and even I’m getting panic fatigue. Every Democratic setback comes with a fresh whiff of disaster, even as Rahm Emanuel’s running around telling people what a sweet opportunity all this is for the left “to do things that you could not do before.” I thought we elected Cool Hand Luke because he doesn’t sweat when things get tough or resort to the politics of fear, an especially useful trait given that part of the economic slump is due to a crisis of confidence. How confident do you feel after reading Biden’s comments?
Read Irwin Stelzer’s piece in the Standard on the blank check we’re about to hand Obama — and how the economic forecasts really might be as dire as everyone fears. Exit question: Is it okay to yell “fire” in a crowded theater if there really is a fire?

Joe Biden: To calm the population, President Palin must immediately address the American people via a Virtual Reality Braincast.

The left loves alarmists
global warming
the need for big government in the economy
the environment
they just don’t seem to be alarmed about terrorists smashing planes into buildings

I do believe that this country has been led down the path to almost certain destruction.
But it’s not because of greedy investors, evil oil companies, or heartless bastard CEOs.
It’s because of the policies of a completely out of control Federal government. Handing a sharper knife to the people that just slit our throats hardly seems like the smartest tactic.
But if I know the American public, that’s exactly what we’ll do.

Thanks for the laugh. That was great.

So is this what I’m supposed to gird my loins for or is that still on the horizon?
Stand up for Joe!

Can anyone ’splain to me how a redistribution of income and wealth stimulates the economy??
We are in for a bumpy four years. Gotta run and gird my lions.. er loins or whatever…

From the article:
The first job is “to make sure the public understands the nature of the problem” when Obama hasn’t even “defined the problem”. This makes no sense whatsoever.
These people are f***ing idiots.
ramrocks on December 20, 2008 at 2:21 AM
You are correct, ramrocks. We have too many people in government postions who haven’t the slightest clue about economics or how business works. Throw out the lawyers.
Biden has positioned a placeholder in his Senate seat until his son can assume his entitlement. Is the son equally dumb? Are we at the mercy of his DNA?
Here is a repeat of an idea addressing the economic crisis that focuses on a root cause of the meltdown (overleveraging) while offering a solution and making the perpetrators eat their bad decisions and forcing them to act responsibly. This citation appeared in WSJ’s “Best of the Web”.
Our anger and sense of betrayal lie in the realization that those in government and finance will not ever have to suffer the consequences of their misguided actions.

Mitt Romney has a Republican solution for what an economic stimulus should look like. (He should have been our president.) http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NTdlNDlmMGYzYWJlMzFkMDhiOTE4YWMyYmUyNDA4ZTQ=
Tax cutting on savings and corporations is part of his plan. Putting the kibbosh on card check is another. Pushing for accountability in assigning infrastructure repair and replacement keeps the political payback of earmarks out of Congress’s sticky paws.

I don’t think anyone knows what will happen with the economy … especially “Chicken Little, the sky is falling” Biden.

mr.blacksheep on December 20, 2008 at 6:55 AM
How on earth could the Republicans have nominated an erratic idiot like McCain when Romney was on the ticket? I knew the wheels were coming off when Mitt bowed out of the primaries.
mr.blacksheep on December 20, 2008 at 6:57 AM
Bambi’s never had a reason to sweat before; he’s never been the one in the hot seat.
Sure was a great idea to elect as president a far-left liberal novice who thinks FDR was some sort of economic genius. Thanks, idiot voters (you know who you are).
AZCoyote on December 20, 2008 at 7:00 AM
Is this on the order of Obama’s statement that every military person he’s talked to said the surge would fail spectacularly and no one he talked to said it would succeed?
I wish I had more faith in his or his VP’s statements, but I still am an atheist in that regard.
eaglewingz08 on December 20, 2008 at 8:08 AM
Hey Joe! go to your buds Barry and get some drugs to fix that problem of yours.
grapeknutz on December 20, 2008 at 8:15 AM
If the Democrats are sounding the clarion call for $$$ then things aren’t as bad as I thought. Power grabs – gotta love’em. Anyone who panics and gives them what they want deserves to lose every single freedom they have left.
.
We’re waiting for that testing thing, Biden.

hey, if our govt. would stop sending disability checks to convicted felons (that are young–like late 20s & early 30s), then we could save some money.
did you know that many drug-selling defendants receive all sorts of govt. checks? should we reward these people?

“Doomsday Meteor” should have been the campaign slogan for Obama/Biden.
notagool on December 20, 2008 at 10:04 AM
bush is hoover, obama is FDR. they’re not interested in fixing the economy, rather in keeping the status quo in power, their friends in wall street, and the union thugs.
if they wanted to fix this, they wouldn’t rely upon the FAILED keynesian economics of the past. if they really wanted to fix this they would eliminate the regulations that caused the problem CRA SOX in the first place, eliminate business tax, capital gains tax, cut the government spending…and watch the economy BOOM.
but that would empower individuals not the government…can’t have that…so we’ll end up with a repeat of the 70s or 30s…
our leaders are AMAZINGLY stupid.

Actually, I’m almost at the point where I’m hoping for an actual meteor strike. Or anything that has Uh-bama in front of a camera without a teleprompter. Take a shot every time he says uh…damn, two sentences in and I’m already down half a bottle. You’d die of alcohol poisoning; which probably would be a mercy than 8 years of listening to Barrack Uh-bama say anything at all.

Republicans 400 billion $ deficits = fiscal ineptitude.
Democrats trillion+ $ deficits = fiscal genius.
