Aww: The official atheist/Christian reconciliation post

posted at 8:30 pm on December 19, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart, a palate cleanser to wash away all the bad vibes of the past few days.

Here’s where the love begins, people. It’s time to heal.

Update (Ed): As a believer, I’m impressed with Penn’s message and the acknowledgment of the love behind true evangelization. However, I suspect Penn may regret offering this encouragement before too long.

That’s what I meant.

Pelayo on December 21, 2008 at 5:23 PM

right  but thats not what you said. and you don’t have the decency to apologize.

you don’t even have the guts to admit to what you said..you’re a weasal. if you had any honor, or integrity, you would stand up to it.

pathetic. you’re a contemptable little man.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 5:27 PM

Just what do you think “It would be better” means?

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 5:27 PM

You’re nuts. There was no threat. Your claim that there was, just like the rest of your spastic arguments, are purely a creation of your own deluded mind—misrepresenting your opponents arguments creating straw men that you can knock down and beat up unapposed. The only problem with your favorite strategy is, when you’ve finished smashing your straw men to smithereens you haven’t accomplished a thing, because they’re your own creation.

You essentially argue with yourself.

Aside from the fact that Islam is more violent that Christianity, you’re just as whacked out on religion as any of the Jihadists.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 5:48 PM

You essentially argue with yourself.

It’s like digging a hole and filling it back in then patting yourself on the back with pride and accomplishment.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 6:01 PM

pathetic. you’re a contemptable little man.

I am not a little man.

I resisted writing that as long as I could.

Pelayo on December 21, 2008 at 6:07 PM

It’s like digging a hole and filling it back in then patting yourself on the back with pride and accomplishment.

Those of us whom understand evolution can only stoke the anger which fuels your constant digging and filling of holes, and once you’re started all we can do is stand back and watch you fight amongst yourself.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 6:10 PM

stoke the anger

Also, hatred seems to be a strong portion of your fuel mixture. What does the bible say about hatred and anger, Right4Life?

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 6:34 PM

so tell me fartingrock, why did you have to come to your little atheist buddy’s defense? isn’t he man enough to fight his own battles??

you just can’t stand that I tell the truth about your racist hairygod darwin.

and if you had any integrity and guts, you’d apologize for lying and twisting what I said…but you can’t cause you can’t win an argument with me, or anyone who denies darwin, unless you lie.

Pelayo on December 21, 2008 at 5:35 PM

Right4 had a chance to explain himself or herself but he or she couldn’t or wouldn’t. Perhaps Right4 is a she, sounds like a shrill harpy at that.

Take special note: I did not call Right4 a shrill harpy. I said he or she sounded like one. There is a difference.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 6:34 PM

I have a hard time believing you’re really a Christian. I know others have speculated that you and a few of the other nuts might be astroturfers, trying to make right-wing Christians look bad, but I hadn’t thought it very likely until now. Either you’re an astroturfer or you aren’t half the Christian you claim to be, and I suspect a lot of Christians would probably agree with me on that score.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 6:45 PM

SAB is a handy site-here’s some other good ones for Islam:

Prophet of Doom

Faith Freedom (which seems to be down for the moment)

History of Jihad

The Religion of Peace

FrontPage Mag

Jihad Watch (for those who aren’t aware of it)

There’s also thousands of videos exposing the truth about Islam and muslims on YouTube.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 6:52 PM

why did you have to come to your little atheist buddy’s defense?

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 6:37 PM

I didn’t; I came to yours. You express so much un-Christian like hatred in your comments that I’m concerned about your salvation. I may not be a Christian but I do respect his philosophy of life and I think he would be more approving of my behavior here than yours.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 6:54 PM

why don’t you go up to somebody in bar and say that??

In a bar I would not say “STFU.” But if some one was mouthing off, I certainly would say, “It would be better if you kept quiet and sat down.”

I have never been in a bar, what are they like?

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 6:54 PM

I’m not a big fan of people threatening me. I’ve been in my share of street fights…and when someone comes up to me and tell me I’d better STFU if I know whats good for me…there’s gonna be a fight…and I’m gonna be fighting for my life…

you can go ahead and commend yourself in your own eyes, if that makes you feel better. you had to twist what I said about darwinists though….and if you were a better man, you would admit it…I have no problems admitting my faults, which are many, and I’m not afraid to admit I was wrong…

perhaps thats the difference between us…

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:07 PM

and you know whats funny…is that none of you darwinists can dispute what I said about darwin being a racist and his followers (not all of course) being racist…and the theory being implicitly racist.

the British Humanist Association recently partnered with Richard Dawkins, secularist Oxford professor and author of The God Delusion, to raise funds for advertisements to counter the Alpha course’s own advertising campaign, with posters on buses carrying an inscription with a similar font to the Alpha’s posters: “There is probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life,” they state. Within a few weeks, the fund raised $180,000 after setting a target of just $7000.

I don’t agree with this and at the same time Christians should realize its not real Atheists that threaten religion.

Its failing to recover the lost Agnostics (because that really is what they are, lost) that belong in church pews that’s the greater issue and attacking people like Dawkins and Hitchens only pushes them further away.

Christianity threatened? Not so much when you realize the people in church now, were going to be there anyway.
Who was the last..there is no such thing-believer President? James Madison? Didn’t seem to change Christianity then.

There’s lots of outrage but not much attacking state sponsored Agnosticism from civil rights organizations which have made no bones about destroying community standards and have forcefully gone after religion with foundation and taxpayer money.

Atheist threat=minor irritation, organized Agnosticism? Those are your people..they’re lost and they belong in church, use good target recognition, go after the real bad guys and bring them home where they belong, in church pews.

Speakup on December 21, 2008 at 7:09 PM

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:23 PM

It’s not a faith, so what’s to defend? The evidence either speaks for itself or it doesn’t, and in this case it does. And since it’s not a faith, I don’t know much about Darwin’s personal life so I can’t defend him—if he even needs defending. And at any rate, I have a lot of respect for Thomas Jefferson too, and he was a slave owner, yet this doesn’t alter his importance in history or indicate that he was wrong about everything.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:32 PM

It’s not a faith, so what’s to defend?

obviously it is…you cannot macro evolution, nor is there any evidence in the fossil record, yet you believe it. evolution has implications far beyond ‘science’ and the darwinists admit it, as I have posted.

I don’t know much about Darwin’s personal life so I can’t defend him

you don’t need to know anything about his personal life to realize his theory is implicity racist…ever hear of eugenics??? applied evolution??? its racist as hell…and yes, the darwinists admit this….

A direct line runs from Darwin, through the founder of the eugenics movement-Darwin’s cousin, Francis Galton-to the extermination camps of Nazi Europe.” (Brookes, Martin.,”Ripe old age,” Review of “Of Flies, Mice and Men,” by Francois Jacob, Harvard University Press, 1999. New Scientist, Vol. 161, No. 2171, 30 January 1999, p.41).

and the eugenics movement is part and parcel of evolution…

“The case for Darwinism cannot be based on any edification that is supposed to come from its truths. Through eugenics, Darwinism was a bad influence on Nazism, one of the greatest killers in world history. Darwinism probably contributed to the upsurge of racism in the latter part of the nineteenth century, and thus it helped foment twentieth-century racism generally. Darwinism was also used to exacerbate the neglect of the poor in the nineteenth century. All things considered, Darwinism has had many regrettable, and sometimes actually vicious, effects on the social climate of the modern world. Modern Darwinism does not offer any guarantee of unending progress. It is understandable that so many hate Darwin and Darwinism. It is often a bitter burden to live with Darwinism and its implications. Unlike so many doctrines, religions, and ideologies, it certainly isn’t intellectual opium. No one can make a case for Darwinism based on moral hygiene.” (Rose M.R. [Professor of Evolutionary Biology, University of California, Irvine], “Darwin’s Spectre: Evolutionary Biology in the Modern World,” [1998], Princeton University Press: Princeton NJ, 2000, Third printing, p.210

look at Watson…you think he’s so different than other darwinists??? just a little more open and honest.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:38 PM

The answer to that should be obvious, even if you disagree. Are you apposed to scientists taking over the reins of religion and redefining it?

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 3:06 AM

If you mean, am I opposed to groups like the Jesus Seminar and their brand of scholarship, very.

If you mean, do I believe rational thinking has no place in religion and vice versa, absolutely not.

There isn’t any scientific evidence which suggests or disproves the existence of God. Science doesn’t work that way and can’t even begin to address the question.

I disagree. If you want, you might wish to familiarize yourself with the writings of Lee Strobel. He wrote a very excellent book titled “The Case for Christ” a while ago.

it must be nice to have achieved such a level of holiness!! how can I become holier than thou???

I’m not saying I’m perfect, so please don’t misconstrue it as such.

Ryan Gandy on December 21, 2008 at 7:39 PM

“The more civilized so-called Caucasian races have beaten the Turkish hollow in the struggle for existence. Looking to the world at no very distant date, what an endless number of the lower races will have been eliminated by the higher civilised races throughout the world.” (Darwin, Charles R. [English naturalist and founder of the modern theory of evolution], “The Life of Charles Darwin”, [1902], Senate: London, 1995, reprint, p.64).

its obvious in evolution that the races are ‘differently’ evolved…no other conclusion is possible….and this of course leads to racism…

christianity says there is ONE human race….evolution says differently…

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:40 PM

I’m not saying I’m perfect, so please don’t misconstrue it as such.

Ryan Gandy on December 21, 2008 at 7:39 PM

but you’re SOOOO much better than I am…you said it yourself!!

I’m sure you’re very proud of yourself!

but you may want to take that beam out of your eye there…

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:41 PM

And conversely, you need to realize that your judgment doesn’t matter either…. His does.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:22 PM

now you are lying. you’re an atheist, you don’t believe in Jesus…too funny.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:24 PM

See, again with the false accusation. I’m not lying. You don’t get to judge your own behavior in the eyes of God. Even I know that. And this is why people often don’t respond to your arguments, because they’re so outlandish for one thing, (and I’m not even talking from a theological standpoint), and second, you don’t argue/debate with people, you take what they’ve said, create straw men, and argue with them instead.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:42 PM

even gould admits the racism:

“Biological arguments for racism may have been common before 1859, but they increased by orders of magnitude following the acceptance of evolutionary theory.” Stephen Jay Gould,
‘Ontogeny and Phylogeny’, Belknap-Harvard Press, pp. 27-128

and the atheism…

“Darwin developed an evolutionary theory based on chance variation and natural selection imposed by an external environment: a rigidly materialistic (and basically atheistic) version of evolution,” (- Stephen Jay Gould, Ever Since Darwin: Reflections in Natural History 33 (W.W. Norton 1977).)

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:43 PM

See, again with the false accusation. I’m not lying.

its not false…you admitted to being an atheist…now unless you were lying about that…then you cannot believe Jesus is the Judge of the living and the dead..

You don’t get to judge your own behavior in the eyes of God.

but you don’t believe in God at all…so who or what is there to judge?? you’re trying to have your cake and eat it too….

and yes we are supposed to judge our own behavior…how else are we going to evaluate ourselves??

you don’t argue/debate with people, you take what they’ve said, create straw men, and argue with them instead.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:42 PM

what straw men? unlike evolutionists, I back up what I say..with quotes, documentation…you ‘scientists’ are not so good at that…

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:46 PM

but you’re SOOOO much better than I am…you said it yourself!!

No, I didn’t. I’d appreciate it very much if you stop attributing statements to me that I never made.

I’m sure you’re very proud of yourself!

What do I have to be proud of? Pride will get me nowhere.

Ryan Gandy on December 21, 2008 at 7:46 PM

and yes we are supposed to judge our own behavior…how else are we going to evaluate ourselves??

Bingo. I think you’re running a little short on this.

RightOFLeft on December 21, 2008 at 7:55 PM

Bingo. I think you’re running a little short on this.

Ryan Gandy on December 21, 2008 at 7:48 PM

your arrogance for a ‘christian’ is rather shocking.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:58 PM

No, I didn’t. I’d appreciate it very much if you stop attributing statements to me that I never made.

really? what does this mean??

Actually, I agree with that. I consider myself a conservative, Bible believing Christian and I wouldn’t come out with half of the stuff I’ve seen out of him in this thread up to now.

Ryan Gandy on December 21, 2008 at 7:32 PM

as quoted above, you sure seem proud that you’re above me!! how did you achieve such a holier-than-thou attitude?

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 8:00 PM

you don’t argue/debate with people, you take what they’ve said, create straw men, and argue with them instead.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:42 PM

interesting that you have not given me an example of a ‘straw man’ that I have created…perhaps you’ll return my courtesy and apolgize for lying about me….

I’m betting you won’t though…

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 8:01 PM

if you haven’t guess it by now…your judgement doesn’t matter….His does.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:09 PM

And conversely, you need to realize that your judgment doesn’t matter either…. His does.

FloatingRock on December 21, 2008 at 7:22 PM

now you are lying. you’re an atheist, you don’t believe in Jesus…too funny.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:24 PM

This is an example of cognitive dissonance. I took your own words and turned them back on you, a common debating tactic, and you claim I’m lying, essentially attacking your own argument… and my understanding of your religion is that you were actually correct—at first.

and yes we are supposed to judge our own behavior…how else are we going to evaluate ourselves??

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:46 PM

You weren’t initially talking about judging our own behavior, you were talking about “His” judgment of our behavior.

You don’t get to judge your own behavior in the eyes of God.

looks like you’re making a straw man.

still don’t see where I made any ‘straw men’ about evolution…gee what a surprise…

Practically every argument you make is built around straw men, and since everybody else here knows this already, I don’t feel compelled to insult their intelligence by defending my statement when there’s already a multi-page thread replete with examples.

Look, this is just another of your logical fallacies. When I said, “You don’t get to judge your own behavior in the eyes of God.” It directly addressed your claim that I was lying about the very argument of yours that I turned back against you. So your excuse doesn’t hinder the accuracy of my post back at 8:06.

your arrogance for a ‘christian’ is rather shocking.

right4life on December 21, 2008 at 7:58 PM

There are many instances where Christians are called by God to judge, but as Jesus says, we must do so justly and without harsh intent.

If you believe I’m being arrogant, you might want to think of how you come off.

I just started reading the comments on this blog again and noticed your comments. As a brother in Christ I think it is important to point out your error in your tone and name calling to those who don’t agree with. Your words are not Christ like. Please print what you have said and show them to your pastor. I’m curious as to what he would think of them.

Your behavior is not consistent with one who is being transformed more into the image of Christ.

When talking with unbelievers we should treat them with respect because they are made in the image of God.

You should reconsider your behavior and actions. You are not letting your light shine before men.

shick on December 21, 2008 at 8:47 PM

I find the closer we get to Christmas the less I am able to quarrel. Christmas is about Jesus’ birth. About peace on Earth. The King of kings, lay lowly in a manger. Born that man no more may die. Born to raise men up. Born to give them a second birth. His message to love one another. His gospel is peace. This is what Christmas is about. That’s what it means to me. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). Praise the night when Christ was born and praise His name forever! To all those that this message reaches: Wherever you are and who ever you may be, know for certain that I am praying for you and your loved ones. May the Lord wrap His loving arms around you and your family this Christmas, and if you are not saved I pray you soon know the great and mighty love of His Son Jesus Christ. One of my favourite Christmas songs, “O Holy Night.” Whenever I hear it I can’t help but weep like a baby. Just wiped away my tears a few minutes ago.

I’ve seldomly seen Penn speak kindly and respectfully to Christians and their beliefs. He deserves praise for his kindness. It would have been equally nice if you had chosen to follow his example by not turning words that are meant for praising our God into a cursing. Very nice.

P.S. Copypasta? :)

shick on December 21, 2008 at 11:00 PM

If the meeting happened as Penn described, he may have come in contact with the Holy Spirit via a true born again Christian. That is, Penn may of felt the true love God via a believer and it shook him to his core.

He deserves praise for his kindness.

And courage.

lets see, I get threatened, and am a bit upset about it…and you’re not upset about me getting threatened, oh no…you’re upset about my reaction..amazing. and gutless. its christians like you that I find rather contemptable.

I didn’t use a foul word…as far as calling people trash or scum…well I think its true.

Your behavior is not consistent with one who is being transformed more into the image of Christ.

maybe I’m not..guess I’m not as holy as you are, you should feel very good about yourself.

When talking with unbelievers we should treat them with respect because they are made in the image of God.

so according to you we should bend over and grab the ankles…no thanks. gee for some reason I get upset when people threaten me…what a shock. with ‘christians’ like you we’d all been converted by the sword to islam long ago.’

you know where to place your advise….

right4life on December 22, 2008 at 8:58 AM

Via Breitbart, a palate cleanser to wash away all the bad vibes of the past few days.

I can’t get the video to play, but I want to react to the commentary:

“Peace on earth; Goodwill toward men”

“By this shall all men know that you are my disciples; that you have love one for another”

“Love your enemies; pray for those who persecute you”

“…The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

These aren’t my words. No Christian should fail to examine himself by these standards, prayerfully and continuously.

RegularJoe on December 22, 2008 at 9:17 AM

If I believed a truck was coming to hit you, and you didn’t, and I tackled you because I believed I was saving you from certain death, but I couldn’t prove there was a truck coming, wouldn’t I be arrested for assault?

This is all about faith, which (by definition) can’t be proven. Let each man decide. Leave me alone if you can’t prove the truck is coming.

lionheart on December 22, 2008 at 11:13 AM

A note to Penn’s comment at the end, it’s not religion that does the bad stuff, it’s the people who claim to be religious not following the religion properly that do bad things. One cannot logically blame religion for people breaking the rules.

ironmonk on December 22, 2008 at 11:29 AM

I think that’s why he asked so quizzically. I thought the same thing — a pocket New Testament with Psalms? But if you read above, the Gideons apparently do produce one.

Tanya on December 19, 2008 at 9:11 PM

It’s actually very common with all pocket size versions of the New Testament. I’m not sure just why, but it certainly explains Penn’s mistake.

Just one request from would-be missionaries: don’t tell me you’ll pray for me. Pray for world peace or something.

RightOFLeft on December 19, 2008 at 9:13 PM

You should know that two a Christian, the two things are synonymous.

Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans or some other such event. You’ll find more than a few religious types who don’t exactly fall into the “sane” category.

Hollowpoint on December 19, 2008 at 9:29 PM

Yes, I noticed them last time I went. Those people are just as bad as Phelps.

Athiests have it good. I wish I could be so lucky. To know that there are no punishments post death for anything in this life would give me great comfort.

keep the change on December 19, 2008 at 10:39 PM

If that’s your opinion of Christianity (that it’s nothing but escaping punishment), then you’ve missed out.

No, it just means you’ve spent your one life, in servitude.

Speakup on December 20, 2008 at 12:42 PM

This is what I hate about how Christianity has been viewed as focusing solely on the after life. I’m not a Christian because being so saves me from hell. I’m a Christian because of the joy, peace and love I receive in this life.

If all of that is just some stupid placebo effect and hell is nothing, then I’ve still gained everything.

then God is a wicked bastard for not revealing himself to everybody rather than just a select group of people in a select place at a select time.

FloatingRock on December 20, 2008 at 4:09 PM

According to the Bible, he has revealed himself to everyone. Arguing over the word Jesus is unnecessary, as the Bible says that everyone must call upon his name, which would include men like Moses who lived before he did and yet were in heaven before Jesus died anyway.

Everyone has a choice. God won’t impose himself on anyone.

Esthier on December 22, 2008 at 12:01 PM
