Rahm continues to be the corpse-on-deck in this whole matter. I think it could get messy for Holder but probably not. Rahm is not going to make it to DC.

Remember that Fitz is smart enough to not release his best stuff at once. He wasn't happy having to pull the trigger when he did but he had to, in order to stop Blago. That doesn't mean he gave up everything. He only gave up what he had to.

The Illinois GOP is doing the right thing here. The Dems know they have limited options now and are trying to force this through the legislature. The Republicans need to keep up the pressure and make sure that Illinois citizens, ignorant as they are, are in the loop.

Exit question -- does Harry Reid know what Fitz knows and if he does, is that why he has backed off commenting on this whole affair; after a week of non-stop calls for Blago to resign?

Super Bonus Exit Question -- Is Obama going to have to give an address to the nation before or after January 20th aplogizing for the role of his advisors in this corruption and telling us that they have all been swept out?

So, Lisa Madigan's motion is denied and the impeachment process is already showing signs it will lurch well into 2009.
Meanwhile, the local PBS TV station has reported that Fitzgerald's office is seeking to freeze Blago's campaign fund. With no evidence that Ed Genson intends to duplicate the generosity shown by Winston & Strawn in its gratis defense of ex-governor George Ryan, Blagojevich is staring at some serious cash flow challenges. Resignation? Not going to do it; wouldn't be prudent.

Here's a thought. Why not let some time pass, put on a business-as-usual performance and let the impeachment carnival in Springfield play on? Then, appoint a squeaky clean Jim Edgar/Mark Kirk-caliber Republican to the Senate and dare Harry Reid to find him/her unfit.

This ad takes a better, more straightforward tack than the RNC efforts over the past week.

Yes, because it has an action item for the viewer — demand a special election.
Totaly agree; it doesn't go too far, and is basicaly a call for good, ethical, accountable government.

I hope to goodness the Illinois Republicans have been working hard to identify a strong candidate and the resources to fund his or her “campaign.”

How corrupt is the Illinois Supreme Court if they won’t even HEAR the complaint?

cannonball on December 17, 2008 at 6:05 PM

More corrupt that you could possibly imagine! Almost every member on that court has ties to the Chicago Democratic Machine, and the Machine is run by his royal highness, King Richard Shortshanks, aka Mayor Daley of Chicago.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - An attorney for Rod Blagojevich says the embattled Illinois governor will not appoint someone to replace Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate.

Attorney Ed Genson says Senate leaders have already said they won't accept an appointment by Blagojevich, so there's no reason for the Democratic governor to select someone.

Blagojevich has been charged with scheming to auction off the position to the highest bidder.

The allegation prompted calls to strip the governor of his power to choose a new senator. But Democratic lawmakers dropped that idea.

That has led to speculation about whether Blagojevich would try to make an appointment despite his legal and political problems.

New from Drudge. So it's an election (which seems to be off the table for now) or waiting until Blago is out, one way or the other, and the Lt. Gov. steps in.

The Illinois R's have a website called Friends of Blago. It's got a big spider web with empty oblongs in which they've been placing pictures.

Pat Quinn, Mike Madigan, John Cullerton and Emil Jones are up right now. You click on the photos and you get a nice rundown of how that person is connected to Blago!

They produced a new ad pointing out the connections between Mike Madigan and Emil Jones to Rod Blagojevich and accuse them of stalling to protect their party’s lock on the position.

Emil Jones. Isn't that the guy who made Obama into a US Senator by putting his name on pretty much every important piece of IL legislation, to the chagrin of pretty much every other Democrat legislator in IL?

Califemme, no we don't expect Fitz to go afer Obama. But he may go after people around Obama, thus tarnishing the One's
halo a bit, and making it clear that Obama is no new kind of politician, but just a shrewd machine pol who managed not to get caught. (Obama was Blago's campaign manager in 2002, by the way.)

The drip, drip, drip will be, in Obama's favorite dismissive term, a distraction. It will diminish his political capital, which he has to carefully spend, given his grand plans to change the world as we know it.

Every part of the news cycle that focuses on this will take public attention away from the way the One is making the Brave New World. It strengthen Harry and Nancy.

It just makes for great political theatre for us.

2 points of interest:

1) Patrick Fitzgerald was appointed by the Dems to find the Plame leak. 6 months after he found Richard Armitage (aka "the leak") he pressed charges against Scooter Libby (R) for perjury. When Blago was indicted, Fitzie told ALL OF US that Obama is NOT implicated nor targeted by this scandal...

2) Nevermind that Obama's newly appointed Chief of Staff was also trying to SELL his own Congressional District 5 seat (aka CD5 in the complaint), you know, along with that Senate seat...

So after all that, do ANY of you expect Fitzie to actually go after Obama? Especially after that sell-out press conference where he SPECIFICALLY said "Obama is not under investigation"? Puh-lease.
