John Walker Lindh’s parents to Bush: Hey, how about a commutation?

posted at 7:43 pm on December 17, 2008 by Allahpundit

One last bailout.

“This is the last year that President Bush could consider giving a commutation to John Walker Lindh, and there are very good reasons to do that,” attorney Jim Brosnahan said at a news conference today in San Francisco. “I’ve never eliminated the idea that President Bush might think it’s the right thing to do, now that John has served seven years.”

Raj Chatterjee, another of Lindh’s attorneys, said others detained and/or charged in the “War on Terror” under similar or more serious circumstances have been released after serving less time. “There’s a fundamental principle of U.S. jurisprudence, and that is that prison sentences must be fair and similar cases should be treated similarly,” he said. “It has become abundantly clear that John has been treated differently.”…

Frank Lindh said they’re still pinning all hopes on Bush because the events transpired during his Administration, rather than waiting for Barack Obama to become president. Bush initially had referred to Lindh as a “poor fellow” who “has been misled,” but later supported his prosecution.

I don’t understand why this turd has become a cause celebre. He fought with the Taliban against the Northern Alliance after the U.S. entered the war; he claimed that he trained at an AQ camp in the summer of 2001 and was asked to carry out attacks against America and Israel (but declined); he didn’t warn anyone in the United States about anything, least of all Mike Spann even though he allegedly knew that the prison uprising in which Spann was killed was in the works; and rather than challenge the supposedly coercive circumstances of his interrogation in court, he copped a plea that reduced his potential sentence from life to 17 years with good behavior. By his own admission he’s a sworn jihadist, albeit one who’s supposedly expressed remorse for 9/11 (but not, according to his own father, for the U.S.S. Cole bombing). Exit question: Why, then, do I have an uneasy suspicion that Bush actually is going to trim a few years off his term?

I heard this on the way home from work. I sure hope Bush doesn’t pardon Rat Boy! He should spend the rest of his life in Prison. Nothing more can steam me more. What a outrage! I hope Bush doesn’t do it. There are others that are worth a pardon. Not Rat Boy!!! They should have had him done by fire squad!

Bigmoo on December 17, 2008 at 8:38 PM

All things considered, I think Lindh really should be turned loose. But the date, time and location of his release should be very well publicized; and there should be no cops or media around for at least five miles at the time. Then give the little bastard a new pair of shoes and a head start.

His mother’s name is Marilyn Walker. His father’s name is Frank Lindh. The P.O.S. is named John Walker Lindh. Of all the places they could have chosen in this country, they made their plea for a pardon for their adult son in the place most filled with reprobates, where unabashed anti-American sentiment and hate displayed on American soil is the norm.

They made their plea for a pardon in San Francisco. Go figure.

Screw em. ’nuff said

John Walker Lindh deserves nothing LESS than spending the FULL 20-years bunking with Pork Chop, Chuey, and Nick da’ Grip. He should have received life in prison, if not a Death Sentence.

Screw Lindh, but I hope (though without much expectation) that Bush pardons Duke Cunningham. I don’t condone the political crimes for which the man was convicted (though I suspect other California politicians, like some with the initials D.F., are at least as guilty but not-too-surprisingly under-investigated). But Cunningham has already paid a price in both freedom and fortune, shown contrition, and his heroic actions of May 10, 1972, in which he proved victorious in arguably the single most famous dogfight in the history of aerial combat, are the stuff of legend. If you aren’t familiar with the story, look it up–you’ll be amazed by the airmanship and valor (and also by the mere fact that Cunningham and his RIO Willie Driscoll managed to survive the day). I simply can’t forget that, and though it saddens and even angers me that such heroism gave way to such petty corruption, I still believe that, even 36 years later, such conspicuous service earns the guy a break.

Notice how she, “after having a time of pause” (whatever the hell that means), is the victim in all this, not that she did anything wrong (“I continue to be used as a political postscript”). She should be fined and in jail for at least a year for violating the public trust. Based upon her resignation ‘statement’, being an arrogant and narcissistic twit like her man, Obambi, doesn’t help her case for leniency, IMO.
