Better yet, how about Caroline for president in 2016?

posted at 4:01 pm on December 17, 2008 by Allahpundit

Sounds good, but if we do it, let’s do it the right way — by electing a completely different Democratic ticket, having the VP resign and Caroline appointed to replace him, and then having the president resign. The Gerald Ford plan, in other words. That way she doesn’t have to fatigue herself by campaigning.

It tears at my heart to think that soon I’ll no longer feel right calling Hillary “Her Majesty.”

If Caroline Kennedy is appointed to the Senate and wins reelection, and Barack Obama serves two successful terms, Senator Kennedy from New York, into her second term after two high-profile campaigns, having amazed the pundits with her ability to step on and off charter jets in Rochester and be friendly to members of the City Council, will be an automatic top-tier candidate for president.

The Kennedy-Clinton primary will be a thing to watch.

She’s the people’s choice, unless you count Andrew Cuomo.

I’m trying to imagine what she could do as a senator to get the public to take her seriously as a potential president. She’s palatable to New Yorkers partly because she’s filling a seat held by another celebrity who traded on her name, partly because there are no stars among the state’s dreary crop of congressional backbenchers, and partly because there’s only so much mischief an unqualified legacy pick with serious connections can get up to in the Senate. If it’s a choice between Caroline and, say, Carolyn Maloney, in other words, why not pick the one you’ve heard of? If it’s a choice between Caroline and Hillary or Mark Warner for control of the nuclear football, though? Anything’s possible in eight years, but from what we know of Caroline’s persona, she doesn’t strike me as someone likely to be out in front on the floor, pounding the podium and championing vital legislation. Which is the only way she’ll escape the impression that she’s a chair-filler.

But we can hope. Nothing would be finer than a nepotism cage match between the Clintons and Kennedys for the nomination while Chelsea and Michelle Obama inevitably eye Senate runs of their own. Here’s the latest scoop from the trail in furtherance of that end. She’s not quite ready yet for tough questions like, um, are you qualified, but she’s getting there.

Here’s a question: If Caroline’s wealth is one of her “qualifications”, isn’t it fair to visit the issue of how the Kennedy’s became so wealthy? There are allegations (the accuracy of which I’m not sure of) that grandpa Joe’s fortune came from bootlegging and Enron-like stock fraud.

Of all the people in the state of New York with expertise in business administration, economics, etc., why, oh, why, appoint someone just because of her name??

It’s time to put the records of JFK, RFK, and Teddy under a microscope. Their accomplishments are more imagined than real. Although JFK was the first Democrat (ever?) to reduce income tax rates, what about Bay of Bigs, his dealings with the Soviets, and, of course, Vietnam. Beyond that, what was the actual record that JFK and RFK compiled on civil rights? As for Teddy, I stop at Chappaquiddick and Mary Jo Kopechne.

The whole family should just go shopping.

Hypothetical question:

If you could change one thing about history, what would it be?

I usually have ideas that other people usually have, like killing Hitler before he rose to power, or some other dictator, but it is slowly turning into, covincing Caroline to get into her brother’s plane. This woman’s picture makes me want to vomit more than any other politician (or dictator) I have ever seen. She just makes me sick.

jimmy the notable on December 17, 2008 at 4:28 PM

Have you ever noted how stupid the Kennedys are?
Everything they do, it seems, requires some more intelligent person to actually do it. The Kennedys themselves are as stupid as fence posts.

One minor example:
Even now, it is acknowledged that as a Senator, JFK never wrote “Profiles in Courage” (a crappy book that somehow received a Pulitzer Prize in history from the sycophantic press that worshipped JFK) but it was authored by Ted Sorensen or some other brainy Kennedy gofer (and Sorensen was slavish to the rather stupid Kennedys), then “dumbed down” to resemble something that JFK could have actually written. The evidence points to almost no involvement from him at all…
And on and on it goes with that entire distasteful clan.
And yet, they always seem to find enough Dimocrat dummies to vote for them….

TexasJew on December 17, 2008 at 4:28 PM

When you think about it, here’s the basic differences between the two leading candidates for the NYS Senate seat, and the one they’re trying to replace, as far as their qualifications go for initially seeking public office:

Caroline Kennedy: Father shot.
Carolyn Maloney: Husband shot.
Hillary Clinton: Husband shot all over intern.

Clearly, you can see why all three have better resumes for higher office than Sarah Palin. [/sarc]

Give Republican Minority Leader Everett Dirkson credit for the Civil Rights bill:

Dirksen played the central role in steering the civil rights bill along its twisting parliamentary path through the Senate. The wily, hard-working Republican leader used his personal charm, legendary knowledge of Senate rules, and finely honed political instincts to convince enough Republicans to vote for cloture and the bill’s passage to overcome southern Democrats’ opposition. He was asked to deliver Republican votes in support of a Democratic president who could not bring along enough of his own party to seal the deal…

Majority Leader Mansfield said of Dirksen, “This is his finest hour. The Senate, the whole country is in debt to the Senator from Illinois.”

As usual, however, LBJ and the Dems did the better PR and get the lion’s share of the credit.

The Race Card on December 17, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Hypothetical question:

If you could change one thing about history, what would it be?

Reminds me of th SNL skit where the question posed is if Eleanor Roosevelt was a bomber would have it made a difference in WWII. Answer: No since she wouldn’t have had sufficient payload. :-0

Seriously (as far as one of these questions go) my choice would have to be going back and getting rid of the diplomatic triggers that sparked WWI. WWII was essentially a continuation of WWI after Europe had raised the next generation to replace the generation it pretty much eradicated in the trenches of France so all the Hilter stuff is covered too.

When it comes to American history, I probably would opt for going back and speeding up the process by which slavery was economically impractical. By 1870, slavery would probably have been close to dead as an institution even without the Civil War which was never about freeing slaves. Nevertheless, this is one of those hypothetical unintended consequences things because the end of slavery by peaceful means would have led to a whole slew of civil rights and societal issues different than what actually occurred.

In the end however, good or bad, we are shaped by our history and it is far more important to learn from it than to figure out what we would change. Who would have thought a filthy Chicago politician of mixed races would somehow rise to the top elective job in America without ever having accomplished anything? Caroline Kennedy and her utter lack of qualification is emblematic of this incoming administration of filthy Chicago politicians and their political cronies intent on holding power forever. Like it or not, American government is about to be taken over by the mob and there will be many other “legitimate” front appointments like a Senator Caroline Kennedy while the mob controls everything from behind the scenes. A woman whose grandfather was a Hitler-loving mob boss is the perfect front for the Barak Hussein Obama adminstration.

They are witnessing the persecution of Christians on the streets of America in the name of tolerance to all Obama’s radical Islam terrorist buddies.

While I have nothing against Caroline Kennedy and, personally, wouldn’t wish her untimely demise I think you dismiss conservative anger at your own peril. Many of us have had it with being “nice” as we watch this nation destroyed by filthy politicians like the incoming administration. It’s only a matter of time before that anger turns into some kind of action and not just at the voting booth. Reid: “How many ways can I sell out my country?”

I live in NY and I wouldn’t be suprised if a lot New Yorkers are tired of this state being the political launching pad for people who are only relevant due to family connection. If it can’t be Rudy, I’d go with any other elected Democrat in the state.

I think we too readily discount the real experience gleaned from spouses, relatives, interns, concubines, etc.

Experience sure, but not knowledge. My husband works in the IT department, and while I know far more about that department than anyone else at our company, that doesn’t mean that I should be considered to fill his role should he be unable to do so.

Besides, your assumption seems to be that Laura would be much like her husband, when it’s really not possible to say.

Were you to like my political opinions and vote me into office based on them, I can assure you that you wouldn’t feel the same way about my husband’s.

We have our own skanks, many of them male. Why would you even reference her sexuality? I know the answer…do you?

The Race Card on December 17, 2008 at 5:55 PM

I would think they’re all male, or else private about their skankiness. I just don’t see a skanky Republican woman getting anywhere in politics.

Esthier on December 17, 2008 at 6:06 PM

the entire kennedy family is one of the most vile and disgusting group of people I have ever seen.

True enough, they are presumably all male. I’m just erring on the side of not knowing everything about our nation’s court jesters.

One could also infer that she’s whoring the family name. Not that it hasn’t been done numerous times already.

Which Republicans point out in talking about McCain’s creepy grin, or Sen Graham’s appearance. A lot of this righteous indignation over “sexist” attitudes sounds a little strained after a while.

You and I both make judgements of both women and men based on appearance. It’s not right, but it happens.

ddrintn on December 17, 2008 at 6:14 PM

If JFK Jr. hadn’t flown to that wedding himself on that fateful day, we’d be awaiting now his inauguration by an adoring press that in comparison would look like they had been spitting on Obama for the past two years.

Marcus on December 17, 2008 at 6:15 PM

^ I should say rather it may be unjust, but it’s a reality nonetheless; weeping over the fact won’t make it any easier for ugly people, male or female.

ddrintn on December 17, 2008 at 6:16 PM

mark my words….2008 it will be Senator Caroline Kennedy, 2012 CAROLINE KENNEDY will Vice President. Biden will be out(nowhere to be found) in an attempt to make Caroline Kennedy our first female president

joe99jpn on December 17, 2008 at 6:23 PM

Maybe we could buy Luxembourg and move all the Kennedy’s there and they could become their royal family.

You’ve never read any comments about “prissy” Sen. Graham on HA? Regardless, your calling attention to what you perceive to be Caroline Kennedy’s sexual proclivities is a typical sexist tactic.

If it doesn’t bother you, why worry about my allegation? Let it stand or lie where it is. You think sexist remarks are perfectly acceptable retorts to political differences. I don’t.

No biggie.

I don’t think Obama has to win in 2012 for her to want it in 16.

I sure hope not. This is just ridiculous! No more Kennedy’s!

sheebe on December 17, 2008 at 7:44 PM

Here’s an idea … sort of along the same lines, but for better effect: On or about January 15, Bush should resign. That would make Cheney POTUS, and liberal heads would be poppin’ all over the place. But we’re not done yet! Cheney then names Condi Rice as his VPOTUS. Then HE resigns.

First female AND first black POTUS.

Thunder effectively stolen. But it was never about race … right? Right?

LissaKay on December 17, 2008 at 7:46 PM

Shouldn’t Caroline get the Palin treatment?

At least Governor Palin had been elected as a mayor and governor before she ran for nationwide office.

Furthermore, the VP merely casts the tie-breaking vote in the senate. A senator would cast a vote on every item that they deigned to vote on.

Seems to me that someone running for Senate should at least be as qualified as someone running for VP. If Sarah Palin was not qualified enough for the one, I guarantee that Caroline Kennedy is not qualified enough for the other.

I have no interest in being unhinged and hateful, but, I am tired of always turning the other cheek on this kind of crap.

LissaKay on December 17, 2008 at 7:46 PM

That’d be nice but (if I recall correctly) the Senate gets to appoint the VP so we could get President Cheney but we would probably not be able to get VP Rice.

JadeNYU on December 17, 2008 at 7:59 PM

little skank Kennedy

I must have read this wrong the first time. I thought it was referencing Teddy.

I didn’t say anything about Caroline Kennedy’s “sexual proclivities”. I couldn’t care less. I said she’s not as attractive as Sarah Palin. “Sexism” can sometimes be this shifting thing to beat people over the head with. But yeah, no biggie.

Shouldn’t Caroline get the Palin treatment?

JadeNYU on December 17, 2008 at 7:55 PM

Sure she should, but she won’t.

Hey she’s got the ‘royal wave’ down pat. Democratic Senate material right there.

Is the MSM going to parachute legions into Manhattan to vet her?

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
