Video: Kerry Kennedy tries to make the case for Caroline, fails

posted at 6:16 pm on December 16, 2008 by Allahpundit

Because she’s an author and she’s raised money for education and, well, she’s just swell. And check out that clip of JFK at 4:20 declaring from the grave that he wishes his daughter could go into politics. You don’t want to kill the dream, do you? He’s a martyred president, for god’s sake! The least you could do is make his little girl a Senator.

Unless I missed something, there’s not a single mention here of the fact that Kerry’s ex-husband just happens to be Caroline’s chief rival for the seat.

I am a registered voter and long time resident of Illinois, and I don’t know if you guys are aware of this, but my cousin Ed is one of my strongest supporters in my bid to be appointed Senator here in the great Land of Lincoln.

I’ve got a degree in Business Administration, a degree in Economics, specialized training at the ABA’s Commercial Lending School, decades of hands on business experience, a safe driver certificate (despite having actually nailed a jaywalking pedestrian once), no DUIs, despite an adulthood of sometimes conspicuous alcohol consumption, no drug arrests that you know of, and a flawless four year record of mortgage lending under the licensing requirements of Rod Baloneyvich and Lisa Madigan’s Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

I am a member in good standing of the NRA, and the local library, dues are current at the health club (OK, my wife works there, so I get in free), and my friends at church think I’m … OK, I guess. I volunteer at the homeless shelter.

I’m thinking, Senator, right?

Don’t sell yourself short like that! Set your sights on DC!

Now I heard it all! She is a rich spoiled brat. Big deal, she raised 70 million for public schools. Her kids went to Private Schools. I heard on the News today, that Hillary is not happy about Caroline wanting her seat. This might be a good cat fight!!!!

MEOW……………scratch scratch scratch!!!!!!

Caroline Kennedy is a lovely woman. She is very bright and, from the little I’ve personally witnessed, very hardworking. But so are millions of other New Yorkers… some of them actually have borne children, too!

Would Caroline Kennedy make a good senator? She probably would, but what troubles me about this is the undercurrent of “If Caroline wants it, it’s hers” mentality that we’re all supposed to sign on to. That’s not American.

And why must the Kennedys trot out one of their own most despicable whores to do Caroline’s bidding? Caroline should know better. And this nitwit wrote a book about being Catholic? Let me tell what that’s all about — that’s about a suburban slut trying to assuage her own Catholic guilt by gathering and regurgitating the musings about the Catholic Church from other wonderful Catholics such as Bill Maher and Susan Sarandon.

2008 qualifications for being a US Senator:

– a woman
– a mother

Senator, yes. Vice President, NOOOO!!!!

jgapinoy on December 17, 2008 at 12:00 AM

I didn’t think New York cared who represented them. . . so long as they were people everyone knew. After all, you did elect Clinton as a carpetbagger, blatantly using NY as a stepping stone.

Don’t most New Yorkers look down on DC anyway? Wouldn’t this appointment be a ‘step down’ for most New Yorkers?

ThackerAgency on December 17, 2008 at 12:12 AM

And as usual, the Democrat’s favorite media lapdog MSNBC will be there to report hype her qualifications. Any bets on where Chris Matthews feels a tingle this time? :)

There is no doubt that Caroline has accomplished a lot. But to seek a senate seat must mean she is ready to be less effective and more corrupt.

csdeven on December 17, 2008 at 5:17 AM

I’m weary of the Kennedy’s, the Bush’s, the Clinton’s etc. We need an infusion of new blood not blue blood in our politics today…

sabbott on December 17, 2008 at 5:31 AM

I am completely perplexed by what passes for “brilliant” nowadays. Barack Obama is “brilliant,” Caroline Kennedy is “brilliant.” Even supposedly “conservative” commentators feel the need to concede brilliance.

Obama wrote two books, both about himself; Caroline Kennedy wrote a couple relatively shallow “analyses” of parts of the Constitution, and edited some poetry books. Does anyone really believe these two would have these “accomplishments” without identity politics?

Enough already! I’ve seen no evidence that either of these people (as well as virtually everyone on the Left) should be considered brilliant, or even particularly bright. Perhaps we should take Obama’s tack every time someone says how smart Obama, Kennedy, etc. is, by saying, “He’s smart enough.”

DrMagnolias on December 17, 2008 at 5:46 AM

Fred Barnes is okay with it, because she’s a celebrity.

V15J on December 17, 2008 at 6:10 AM

I think they need a better salesman because she didn’t make the case. Let’s see, she knows how to trade on her family name to raise money, she edited poetry books, supports the arts, stays out of the public eye, is a lawyer who doesn’t practice law … yea, what a resume, it qualifies her for what she is; a rich socialite … I think she should stick with that career, it suits her better than the Senate.

Best part of that interview was the petition to stop her appointment. JUST SAY NO TO KENNEDY NEW YORK.

Done That on December 17, 2008 at 6:54 AM

It is the PEOPLE of the state of New York who should decide who their next Senator will be.

Not the Clintons.

Not the Kennedys.

Not the New York Times, the New York Post, whoever!

It should be the PEOPLE who decide.

Where the heck did Hillary Clinton get this insane notion that she had some kind of entitlement bestowed on her to pass on her seat to whoever SHE felt was better qualified?

At this point in time, she doesn’t have a damned thing to say about it!

I am SO SICK on the Clintons! I sincerely wish the whole lot of them would just go away!

pilamaye on December 17, 2008 at 7:29 AM

I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts this seat was bought by Uncle Ted when he backed Obama.

elifino on December 17, 2008 at 7:39 AM

It is official, if you support and stroke the ego of The One he will reward you 10 fold. Let us not talk about the lack of experience, look where that got us. Politics is dirty and corrupt period. The “keep it in the family” mantra is what is killing this country. That and other things. Remember one thing absolute power corupts absolutely.

Dr. Magnolias

Caroline Kennedy wrote a couple relatively shallow “analyses” of parts of the Constitution, and edited some poetry books. Does anyone really believe these two would have these “accomplishments” without identity politics?

Caroline, JFK’s genetic daughter, is actually Onassis’ step-daughter. She grew up Onassis’ charge far away from America, and harbored antagonism for that hurtful place (as though Greece or Greek tycoons shed no blood). Carolyn was raised AWAY from the Kennedy Klan in order that her mother’s wish to wash their hands of politics be realized. Finally widowed twice, Jackie and kids return to the USA aka NYC to live absolutely insulated aristocratic lives, Jackie thriving independently in her publication editorial position, her wish for her children to remain aloof of their Kennedy political affiliations being respected even as she enjoyed influential activity within the literary intelligentsia that determine what we think of what we are permitted to read that they publish.

John’s GEORGE spearheaded by anyone else would never have been seriously recognized. It lacked substance, depth, perception. Though the “Kennedy Prince” venture, GEORGE FAILED. John failed to learn from his mother what makes for good reading. And despite all of her help via instruction and example, John was another Kennedy failure.

Had anything that Caroline authored been written by an unknown person, those works would not have been endorsed, published or sold by the most influential firms.

Caroline Kennedy’s only claim to fame is her name association. And that Kennedy name’s legend is whole cloth. With Teddy ready to croak, the Klan is frantic to remain on the nation’s front burner. And Carolyn has reached her own mid-life identity crisis. So far as Carolyn is concerned, she now deserves her own sword to wield from her ivory tower that resembles a sort of senate. She knows that if Teddy could get away with murder to become the most prominent neo-liberal senator, she can at least do likewise. Motivated by the same corrupted inversion of public service as power mongering that begat her birth and provided her lavishly private cosmopolitan life, she is more than willing to provide her familial whole cloth legend with her facade as the heroine to culminate Teddy’s dreams.

That Teddy’s agenda destroyed her own father’s vision is of no matter to Caroline. She’s just a pawn in the global Marxist regime destroying the middle-class. No matter to her; as ever, she’s an untouchable faux princess. Marxism is the venue by which feudalism returns, and all is determined by power of conquest. So Caroline fulfills her Camelot fabrication feigning the virgin princess though being the essence of figurative incest or the most grotesque corruption. She dashes her mother’s Will AND the conservatism in JFK’s platform and presidency.

If ANYONE is to be faulted for historical revisionism, for the legitimization of Obama’s radically Socialist POTUS bid and enabling his victory while celebrating the demise of any Conservative voice in journalism, it is Caroline Kennedy.

I do not support any venture endorsed by Caroline Kennedy (Onassis) Schlossberg.

Ya think???

The only ‘Kennedy’ I ever liked was Jackie, and she married into it. She too was an elitest, but she had the good sense to take her children out of the political limelight. Carolyn is a rich, spoiled woman who knows jack about the real world and the people who inhabit it. She should be made to live a year with ‘real people’ on their budgets with all of their problems before she has the gall to take a seat that will only enhance her self-worth. Actually, all of these so-called do-gooders should try being ‘real’ for a time before they try to do what is best for us.

A friend of mine noted that Kerry Kennedy has that same anemic quality of all these patrician dames. What is it about women in those circles? Do they sit around and get leeched or something? They all have the same weird boneless quality and flat, utterly emotionless voice. There must be some kind of Invasion of the Body Snatchers pod thing going on — take an ostensibly normal kid and then — poof! — freaky dynastic boneless blank-eyed wonder, complete with Coach bag, Harvard degree, $500 facials and summering in the Hamptons.

Caroline especially has that listless quality that comes from too much intermarrying between royalty. She needs a steak or a transfusion. Some NPR idiot declared that Caroline is “smart and beautiful” and only an idiot on NPR would call this woman beautiful. What I don’t understand is why, with all that money, Caroline couldn’t afford dental work? Was she trying to look more British? One would think that given the money and access to top-level makeup, hair and clothing (including couture and stuff to slather on your face made from eel anuses or something that
costs $2000/oz) Caroline Kennedy would be the most beautiful woman in the universe!

ramrocks on December 17, 2008 at 11:09 AM

This reeks of double-standards… The only thing Kennedy has is just that… her name….the dynasty…

Let’s see… Sarah Palin is a woman and a mother…

Much worse was said about her than was said of Kennedy…
Where were the howls against the “Sexist Remarks” then?

CynicalOptimist on December 17, 2008 at 11:21 AM

There are people who are probably less qualified than Caroline Kennedy in the U.S. Senate (Patty Murray, anyone?), but this seems an odd turn in the life of a woman whose best quality seemed to be that she didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of others in her family.

You’re probably right. If she wants it, it’s hers. Most people have to work for such things, but some obviously do not.

I take it you live in New York.
