Video: Michelle on the shoe-icide bomber

Nothing happened yesterday that you wouldn’t see on certain American college campuses, she notes, but there’s something different about the reaction. Namely, shame:

Saeed Naji al-Ibadi, a 49-year-old pharmacist, said: “There’s a reaction against this journalist and his improper behavior as he represents the journalists and educated people in our society. Because he should have rejected the American president with his pen or by embarrassing him with his smart questions, not with his shoes. I totally reject this behavior because it will damage the rights of individuals.”

Nasir Mahmood al-Bahadli, 52, an academic said: “We are Arabs and we have a good reputation in hospitality with enemies before friends. The American president also was accompanying the man who represents the Iraqi government and this made it worse because this journalist also abused the prime minister with his behavior.”…

“I spent five years in Saddam’s jails,” said Saman Qadir, a 51-year-old mechanic. “This journalist has to throw flowers on Bush, not a shoe, because Bush saved the Iraqi people from a bloody regime. Malaki has to raise a case against this journalist.”

Bush insisted afterwards that he’s not insulted, and judging by the grin on his face even while the shoes were being tossed, he might just mean it. Or maybe he was just still aglow from the way U.S. troops in Baghdad greeted him. Exit question: Where was the Secret Service?

The secret service was probably where they usually are, around the periphary of the room.
I’m confident that everyone who entered that room was at a minimum required to go through a metal detector, and quite possibly frisked. Before the second shoe could be thrown, a secret service man was approaching Bush, but was waved off. We can’t see it on the camera, but I’m sure that the secret service was making their way towards the man as soon as the first shoe was thrown, but since they didn’t post one agent for every reporter, they had to move aways, get past several people, before they could get to the shoe assisin.

MarkTheGreat on December 15, 2008 at 5:58 PM

Children throw shoes, and other children who would like to throw shoes but don’t have the guts to do it applaud those that do. The Left is in a state of arrested development, and apparently some Iraqis are as well. I know what the former wants; I’m not sure about the latter.

God bless President Bush. I’m so proud of him.

capitalist piglet on December 15, 2008 at 6:00 PM

I love her.

Firebird on December 15, 2008 at 6:01 PM

Good post, Allah; I’m glad to see the Iraqis act this way. And Michelle is very right.

Achilles on December 15, 2008 at 6:02 PM

Did you hear the wuss squeal like a piglet, when they tried to subdue him?

Watch the end to see a real beating with shoes.

Saddam Hussein is now taking his rightful place alongside Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Ceausescu in the pantheon of failed brutal dictators, and the Iraqi people are well on their way to freedom.”

‘Only Now Will I Start Living’

Yesterday it was five years since the Americans found the ’strong’ and ‘curageous’ ‘leader’ in a spider hole, ready to ‘negotiate’. Heh, just heh. If he’d be around, all those silly people wouldn’t be complaining freely in the streets.

They should celebrate this in the region, for all the right reasons, the bastards, and so should all the pretend ‘liberal’ tards, including the ACLU, the media, and European lillies.

I think this is great – it was an incredible symbolic gift to Mr. Bush. Imagine, an Iraqi reporter threw shoes…at the president of the U.S.A…in Iraq. It’s manna from heaven. Mr. Bush’s reaction is as it s/b, perfect.

The reporter should be set free, and allowed to rant some more.

Our ‘intelligentsia’ is so imbecillic.

Intelligence and logic are indignant.

Entelechy on December 15, 2008 at 6:02 PM

The secret service didn’t do anything wrong. Everyone was obviously screened for weapons. A shoe is not a weapon. Bush waved off the secret service guy on the video.

The beauty of it all is that he was able to throw shoes at a head of state without losing his own. Some people are just too stupid to realize that.

orlandocajun on December 15, 2008 at 6:03 PM

how about them reflexes.

Ammendment 1A – The right of the citizenry to throw shoes at politicians shall not be infringed upon.

I will not take the old shoes to Goodwill but save them up for the next election cycle instead….

DL13 on December 15, 2008 at 6:05 PM

I’m still so angry about this — I can’t believe this low-life is hailed a hero…he’s one jackass who threw shoes, not 25 million who threw theirs.

This reporter is a coward; that’s the true news item.

Richard Romano on December 15, 2008 at 6:05 PM

Think you’ve seen it all with Bush and the size 10 shoes?

My collie says:

Behold, articles of clothing that will be thrown at the POTUS that are yet to come.

A sane person, speaking for so many, the way the media could, but won’t. Where are all the liberals who’re for rights? Fark them, hypocrits!

+1 on all points. The security wasn’t a problem, unless they knew that shoe chucker was planning his ” -icide ” rampage and just blew it off.

wise_man on December 15, 2008 at 6:11 PM

Those who hate GWB with a deranged passion will be disappointed. This will rally the Americans around him. It was a double throw at America, for those who can think that far.

This country will always just take it, and just keep on going, smiling with gratitude that it can do so.

Entelechy on December 15, 2008 at 6:13 PM

What is more disturbing – a Egyptian journalists throwing shoes at Bush, or American journalists throwing their panties at Obama?

commenter on December 15, 2008 at 6:17 PM

For the past 8 years the Left has spent an enormous amount of time and energy attempting to de-legitimize and minimize the authority of the President of the United States.
The sad spectacle in Baghdad is testament to the fact that they have finally accomplished their goal.
And in a little over a month the world is supposed to magically unlearn the lesson the American Left has taught so well?

Bruno Strozek on December 15, 2008 at 6:17 PM

This journalist showed about the same respect for our president as some of our own MSM reporters have. While they may not have thrown a size 10 at him, their behavior has been just as shameful.

scalleywag on December 15, 2008 at 6:24 PM

Mohamed al-Hili, a 35-year-old policeman, said: “I am happy for what happened because that will reflect how we do not like Bush. And our government has a different attitude and belief than ours. And I’d like to add that Mr. Muntader is a hero and he must be our president, or at least P.M. We need to replace al-Maliki with the real Iraqi — Mr. Muntader.”

Mohamed al-Haiyali, a 29-year-old soldier manning a checkpoint, said: “We have the power, the Army and the richest country in the world. So we do not need somebody to protect us, and Muntader told Bush that, but in different way.”

Haitham Karem, a 32-year-old soldier, said: “What happened in the conference is a personal expression for an Iraqi journalist and a citizen. His action is a kind of freedom. The officials have to understand it.”

Anyways, I was going to make a point that we should rethink giving the Iraqi Army and police force any Christmas presents, ever, but the comments section of the NYT piece contains more venom than any Sadr sermon.

TheEJS on December 15, 2008 at 6:26 PM

As for the Secret Service, I would have expected someone to take that guy down long before he got as close as he did. For all they knew he could have had a bottle of acid and was trying to blind and disfigure our president.

I don’t think that this man in Iraq could have possibly been influenced or emboldened by the left here in the US.

wise_man on December 15, 2008 at 6:27 PM

Gotta give some respect to Bush for those lightning reflexes dodging the first shoe….he had plenty of time to avoid the second.

Under Saddam, that assclown shoe-icide bomber would have been dead before he hit the floor.

In that respect, this event is arguably a great testament to the good work we have done there.

Looks like all he had to do is stand up. He was already screened and searched on the way in to the room. With everyone else inside. He had no liquids on him, nothing set off by a metal detector. They are fast, but not that fast. When the president is outside or in some situation like a greeting line, there is always men in front and behind as he walks. In that case, they are then that much closer.

What a surprise. Brit Hume’s Special Report just did a report on the shoe thrower, which at one point featured a poster sized photo of the martyred journalist and another poster of…Che’ Guevara.

wise_man on December 15, 2008 at 6:35 PM

There are four methods used in the Bible to ratify a covenant. One of them was the Shoe Covenant: The two parties would exchange sandals signifying that the covenant was in effect until the sandals were returned. Boaz made this type of covenant with the kinsman-redeemer to redeem Ruth (Ruth 4:8).

So naturally it would be an insult in the Arab world. They just HAVE to be different!

Nah. Slap on the wrist, disorderly conduct or some-such, with a minor fine. Not getting away scot free, but still fundamentally whole in the end.

Count to 10, I agree. I just don’t want him punished in “regional style”, a.k.a. a la Saddam. This will turn out good for GWB and for our way of life, which now they have some of – see the shoe-throwing.

A shoe is not a weapon.
orlandocajun on December 15, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Is that right? Why do you suppose we have to remove our shoes every time we go through airport security? Could it have anything to do with an islamo-facist nutjob trying to down and airliner with explosives secreted in his shoes?

If people in the room had their shoes x-rayed then this probably isn’t such a big deal from a security standpoint. If the shoes were not inspected, there is no way the secret service can minimize the risk of having allowed the first shoe to get to the president and it’s absolutely inexcusable that they didn’t prevent the second because there’s no way they could have known it didn’t contain an explosive that would detonate on impact. The first could have been a dud, so having permitted the second one reach the president I submit the entire security detail should be looking for work.

BadDogMN on December 15, 2008 at 8:00 PM

the comments section of the NYT piece contains more venom than any Sadr sermon.

Yes indeed it did. I countered some of those ingrates mentioning that they hate Bush but have enjoyed 7 plus years free from a jihad bloodbath in the USA which has not spared Europe, India or other places in the world. The Bible does say that in the end times men would rail against authority which in effect is railing against God who is the ultimate authority. Look at the anarchy in Greece. It will get worse, sadly. This same bunch is the group against anything godly in American life, morality and standards of behavior.

wepeople on December 15, 2008 at 8:51 PM

All things considered, not the best take by MM on this.
Lots more meat on this bone that could have and should have been gnawed at.

The droolers on the left suffering from BDS find nothing wrong with wishing physical damage, pain or death on those who do not march lockstep in line with them.

Just a whiff of a hint of the possibility of a threat against The One will be treated as worse than the Tate Labianca murders by Manson.

44Magnum on December 15, 2008 at 9:49 PM

Why the dickens were the Secret Service guys not on the stage? They should have had the President down before the first shoe landed, and the attacker (yes, this was an attack, and it could have been a weapon—remember the shoe-bomber?) shot dead before he threw the second one.

MrLynn on December 15, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Hopefully, the deranged Iraqi douche got the snot beaten out of him. Free speech is limited to words expressed at the right time in the right place.

Michelle is Awesome! And right too. The Secret Service was no help at all. What and where were they at? That bugs me. Guess they are lazy or slow. At least Bush didn’t get hurt. He is in great shape luckily. They should hang that reporter by his toes.

sheebe on December 16, 2008 at 12:29 AM

Now we know Bush’s reflexes are faster than the Secret Service.

Done That on December 16, 2008 at 5:22 AM

The way I heard about this was the Secret Service was informed to stand back and let the Iraqi’s handle this on their own.

What gets me is Huffpo losers made a mockery of this, just think, if we didn’t help secure their independence that reporter would be sitting in a cell awaiting his death or some other dire fate.

The way the reported behaved one would have thought he was one of our MSM.

Kudos to the guy in front of the shoe thrower who immediately tried to stop him from throwing the second – I’m guessing he’s an Iraqi. Not everyone thinks the same as Sh’oes Al Throwim there.
