Confirmed: Fairy-tale princess wants to be Senator Fairy-tale princess

We really should consider setting aside a permanent seat for the Kennedys, and I say that as someone who wants to see less of them in public life, not more. Give them their own spot, fully inheritable, to be filled by whomever the family designates, and you might just placate them enough to discourage other members of the brood from running. As it is, we’re looking at Caroline in New York, Teddy’s wife replacing him in Massachusetts, and just maybe Chris Kennedy as a dark horse in Illinois. This dynastic nonsense is already an American disgrace; let’s go the whole nine yards, grant them nobility, and limit them to one spot out of 100.
Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of an American political dynasty, has decided to pursue the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, a person told of her decision said on Monday.
The decision came after a series of deeply personal and political conversations, in which Ms. Kennedy, whom friends describe as unflashy but determined, wrestled with whether to give up what has been a lifetime of avoiding the spotlight…
Ms. Kennedy’s decision is likely to have a major impact on the governor’s considerations as he mulls who should succeed Mrs. Clinton. Already, some other Democrats have pointedly questioned her credentials for the job. United States Representative Gary Ackerman, a Queens Democrat, said last week that he did not know what Ms. Kennedy’s qualifications were, “except that she has name recognition — but so does J. Lo.”
She and Sharpton are already scratching each other’s backs. Paterson’s going to irritate a lot of New York congressmen if he snubs them for Princess, but I’m guessing he’s willing to risk it given how thrilled The One will be by the appointment. Caroline’s a loyal Obamite and inexperienced enough that Team Barry probably figures she’ll vote any way they want her to; if they’re intent on buying a Senate seat, forget Illinois and push for Caroline in exchange for a promise that Obama will campaign personally for Paterson when he runs for re-election. Everyone wins! Especially the Kennedy gene pool.
Exit question: Is there any way Paterson tells her no now that she’s made her interest public? Kennedy cultists won’t like that, Uncle Ted first and foremost among them.

The nominee will be a Dem, but you’d think the governor would appoint someone who is already in Congress or someone with extensive experience in an area of the private sector that would be of practical help to New York.
There will be some irritated Dems if this happens.
As for Clinton saying that Chelsea is the best politician in their family. He’s essentially saying that the only qualification to be a politician is your ability to spread the schmaltz. I don’t know of anything Chelsea has done except to land a high-paying position because of her parents and to campaign for her mom.

I don’t know about Caroline.
How does SHE look in a USA flag bikini with a rifle in her hands?
44Magnum on December 15, 2008 at 9:33 PM
Just curious, but shouldn’t Chelsea like be married or have a boyfriend or something about now. She is getting rather long in the tooth. I’m just saying…………

Yes, you have. Only fools believe that liberals are for the people. They are for modern day serfdom, to fool the people, strictly for power. The fools fall for it.

Caroline knows nothing about Politics! Is her kids grown and she is bored now?
sheebe on December 15, 2008 at 9:57 PM
Hey! Caroline has a ton of political experience. After all, she did recommend Joe Biden for VP.

Actually, the name is Schlossberg, not Kennedy. Why won’t she run under her married name or perhaps just her first name– Caroline?
As a Massachusetts native, it can’t be said strongly enough: the Kennedy mythos must end. Here and now. America has paid enough of a price for the maintenance of the Kennedy name. No more.

The NYT nitwit balanced the skeptics concerns about a housewife whose government career consists of part-time non-profit work and a poetry slam in Westchester with assurances from her fellow idle rich Westchester housewife* friends that she is “really smart”, so there.
(*Westchester Housewife – doesn’t know how to cook, clean, wash clothes, drive the kids anywhere, or the names of any of the kids’ teachers; knows the names of 27 different martinis, how to slap a maid, how to order in French, and how to work a bidet.)
Jaibones on December 15, 2008 at 10:34 PM
Another unqualified Dem in congress is what this will add up to; no surprise if she goes in unopposed.
mindhacker on December 15, 2008 at 10:42 PM
Ivy League degree: check.
Pro-choice Democrat: check.
What other qualifications are required? Those only matter in the case of uppity “igloo trash” like Sarah Palin.
ddrintn on December 15, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Don’t worry, that seat is just a vehicle for her candidacy in 2016.
sloopy on December 15, 2008 at 11:08 PM
We can only hope that Rudy runs for the seat in ‘10. Rudy would wipe the streets with Sweet Caroline.
I still don’t know how Chuck U Schumer would be able to deal with the star power of the Princess in the Senate. She’ll hog his mug camera time for sure. All the NY political shows all say it will be some nobody from upstate to keep Chuck E Cheese’s ego intact. I disagree, if the Dems are to have any hope of keeping the seat, they need to appoint someone with a name. I also hear that Carolyn (Ms Fishlips) Maloney is being considered as well. NY sucks these days.
StatenItaly08 on December 15, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Anti-Palin in so many ways. A Kennedy in a Wal-Mart? Perish the thought.
No doubt, but nationally the Kennedy brand ain’t what it used to be.

Oh goody. Another democrat with NO EXPERIENCE.
HornetSting on December 16, 2008 at 12:58 AM
Aw, Come on.. What experience does she really need?
1. Always vote the partly line
2. Read Marx and Engles for guidance
3. Republicans are always wrong and evil
4. Buy votes with money stolen from those who worked hard for it.
5. Be corrupt as hell and, if you get caught, deny, deny, deny
There ya go.. Being a Democrat for Dummies

lol…another useless Kennedy cashing in on the myth of JFK’s greatness. Of course if she gets the seat the media are going to hump her leg like the slavering dogs they are. Then again this may just pose a little bit of a dilemma for them because if they are busy heaping praise on her for doing nothing apart from being JFK’s daughter then they wont have enough time and editorial space to continue their love affair with Obama.
Then there is also the prospect of her running for President at some stage. Can you imagine the media frenzy if it was Sarah Palin v Caroline Kennedy for President at some stage. It would be Caribou Barbie v Manhattan Barbie for the top job.
Dreadnought223 on December 16, 2008 at 2:17 AM
Typically the hypocrisy exuded by the left is predictable and unsurprising, but to this degree in my opinion is a bit more stunning when one considers that for the past two and half months we have heard from the anointed that Palin was unqualified despite the fact she had more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. On the other hand, it’s predictable given Obama’s whopping 309 active days in the US Senate before he announced his run and the subsequent silence from the Obama propogandists in the media.
Now we are witnessing some of the very same people advocating that a woman waltz into a Senate seat due to her last name, which is the only reason why she is relevant. I wonder what the great Colin Powell would have to say about her readiness? We have a hundred Senators representing over 300 million people and this is their choice apparently.
I live in New York and its obvious that an overwhelming majority of people in the state don’t’ value accomplishment. After all, Hillary attained her seat for the very same reason. But everyone knows that the aborto-centric feminists will hail Clinton and Kennedy, two women made by their family as opposed to Palin, who achieved her success due to her own determination and ability.
V15J on December 16, 2008 at 2:26 AM
I don’t suppose reporters will be headed to Long Island to rifle through her trash anytime soon.
But then, the Kennedy’s are just trailer trash with money. New Yorkers should call their Governor and tell him to “just say no” unless they still harbor monarch loving loyalist sympathy from the Revolution.
Done That on December 16, 2008 at 4:48 AM
Eli Manning would make a better NY senator that Caroline whatsername. At least he’s shown he can run an offense…sometimes.
SKYFOX on December 16, 2008 at 5:03 AM
I don’t think her experience is a relevent issue. She’s just wanting to be a Senator. In a lot of cases your name is enough. Simply being a Kennedy makes her more qualified than Al Franken.
But appointing her would be a mistake, no democrat would dare run against her in the next primary and a strong Republican will beat her especially if things continue to get worse.
cadams on December 16, 2008 at 6:36 AM
Caroline Kennedy is not qualified to be a U.S. Senator from New York but that’s not even a minor consideration. New York isn’t even a state, it’s nothing more than a political board game for liberal politicians and the Kennedy’s are simply using it to anoint a goddess. The political system in this country is a sham and has become an aberration that only serves the elitist class and other narcissistic film flam artists. It really doesn’t matter what any of us want or think we’ll be force fed whatever the ruling classes think we should eat. This once great Republic has become morally weak, pathetic and rotten in its core. The country urgently needs strong, intelligent, courageous and patriotic leaders to guide us out of this cesspool of incompetence, moral relativism and confusion lest we disappear into the abyss. Unfortunately, the probability of that occurring is near zero.
rplat on December 16, 2008 at 7:04 AM
By all means, Governor: appoint a rich liberal who’s never worked in her life. Because, you know, she can identify with middle-class schlubs who need to work every day in their lives.

So Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, which the inexperienced Hillary obtained by virtue of her name and relationship with a former U.S. President, is now going to be handed to another inexperienced woman because of her name and relationship to another former U.S. President? Well, at least the Dims are consistent in their idiocy.
BTW, the bulk of Caroline’s fortune didn’t come from grandpa Joe Kennedy. Caroline inherited most of her wealth from her mother Jackie’s estate, and Jackie’s fortune came mainly from Aristotle Onassis (a thuggish Greek shipping tycoon), whom Jackie basically sold herself to for money. The multi-milion dollar settlement Jackie received from Onassis’ estate was greatly expanded over the years thanks to the good investment advice Jackie received from her married lover, diamond merchant Maurice Tempelsman. Caroline received half of Jackie’s vast estate when Jackie died, then received the other half (minus the 10 million Caroline had to pay to the family of John Jr.’s dead wife and sister-in-law to settle the in-laws’ claims of negligent piloting) when her brother John Jr. died.

I thought they already had one of those – the senior senator-for-life from Massachusetts.

I have an idea. Why not just dispense with the Constitution (we’re almost there anyway) and the republic and have the families of the wealthy and influential appoint each other to Congress, then pass their seats down to their children? Then we could have the inherited seats AP talked about. No need for 2 year long elections, no cuckolded public, no accountability, as if there is any now. And let’s do away with the office of POTUS and get ourselves a king or queen as the case may be. In other words, let’s stop the pretense of a constitutional republic and have a full-blown monarchy.

What New Yorkers need to consider is if one of their Senate seats will always be made available to satisfy the Dems need for a celebrity in their midst. Remember, Hillary had zero on her resume besides being First Lady of the U.S. and Arkansas. Before that she was just another practicing lawyer. New Yorkers bought into the celebrity hype and probably will again.
As to whether Obama will campaign for Patterson or not, he will regardless of who is Senator. Obama needs whatever money is left in NYC to get reelected and he is not going to isolate the state.
Kennedy brings ZERO to the seat. What will be interesting is if we find that Rham is on the phone with Patterson trying to get Caroline her seat but still claims to have not spoken to The Black Caesar’s bff, Blago.
grdred944 on December 16, 2008 at 11:37 AM
I am of the mind, rplat, that we, the American voters, have now become just like Captain Ahab of Moby Dick fame. Ahab was trapped aboard a crazed whale and taken for his last ride. He could do nothing to help his situation, the end of the ride for him would be at his death.
I see us like that because nothing we do in the voting booth makes any difference. We are captives of the crazed whale that is non-accountable government. All we can do is hang on and hope we survive.
Just my 2 cents.
