Video: The obligatory “Iraqi journalist throws shoes at Bush” clip

posted at 2:35 pm on December 14, 2008 by Allahpundit

Christmas comes early for the left. As one of our commenters snarked in Headlines, between this and the fact that the guy’s in media, he’s now qualified for his own show on MSNBC.

Maliki, to his credit, went for the block.

Update: The reporter is Muntazer al-Zaidi of Al-Baghdadia, which is based on Cairo. AFP says other journalists there apologized to Bush.

Blowback

He should have caught the second one, looked at it, said, “sorry, not my size, but thanks anyway,” and tossed it back.

Yeah, but he handled it well enough. He rocks.

Cheney would have thrown them back.

Possibly, but would he have hit was he was aiming at? He could well have hit Maliki or Bush.

At first this act infuriated me. However, I’m so happy that it did happen. It proves to the entire world, with the symbol of ‘hatred’ in front, on video for all to see, over and over, that the reporter was free to do that…in Iraq.

Nice!

Entelechy on December 14, 2008 at 3:54 PM

Amazing how much courage people gain in a democracy.

Anyone think the reporter would have tried slinging a shoe at Saddam? My bet is he wouldn’t have been around long enough to toss the second one.

Bush just smiled!

TDBURN on December 14, 2008 at 3:57 PM

Amazing to see the Secret Service in action. Watch after the shoe is thrown. A SS guy runs right to Bush, and the door behind the podium opens up and several other guys run out as well.

Politico:

Bush was cool under fire and prevented an even bigger incident by waving off his lead Secret Service agent, who was prepared to extract him from the room.

Video shows the president’s lead agent rushing to the podium, but the president immediately and subtly motions to him that it’s OK. The agent backs off.

viking01 on December 14, 2008 at 3:33 PM

I was always surprised no one talked more about that incident. It looked like Gore just jumped off his stool and charged Bush, hoping to make him flinch before the cameras. All he got was a nod.

That had to be a deliberate attempt at physical intimidation by Gore. I guess we would have heard a lot more about it, if it had worked.

Notice how the Secret Service didn’t feel a need to get involved in the block? They know W can take care of himself in a situation like this.

Of course, had it been Obama, they probably wouldn’t have worried either. They know Barry can block a shoe with his manbag. And then Michelle will beat the person up.

William Teach on December 14, 2008 at 4:50 PM

The Iraqi journalist was immediately detained by security but apparently not before White House Press Secretary Dana Perino is stated to have gotten hit beneath her eye with a microphone. She is stated to be ok after the struck.

Yeah, what a brave iraqi journalist! He probably hates Bush because I guess he liked the fact that if his wife got out of line, she’d get raped on videotape and have the tape sent to the entire family.

I’m SURE he was as angry at Saddam as he is at Bush.

Gotta love how our blood and treasure is so appreciated.

JustTruth101 on December 14, 2008 at 4:51 PM

Yea if Obama were the target, the guy’s tax records and criminal history would be all over the media by this afternoon.

scalleywag on December 14, 2008 at 4:51 PM

This was an insult to the Office of the President and to the US in general, not to Bush as an individual. I find it odd that some view this as a sign of the new “freedom” of Iraq. This guy will get the appropriate treatment as an eyewash for the west if they are looking, but will be the toast of the Ummah like Smeaton was to Infidels.

Bush’s reflexes are pretty damned good for a President over 60!

I find this kind of behaviour disgusting and very brazen. The Presidency of the United States used to be something people would be afraid to mess with. Now we have 2 bit reporters throwing shoes? I don’t blame Bush for the denegration of Office of President, I blame the democrats calling Bush every name in the book. They have marginalized the office and spread their BDS across the world. Terrorists are watching CNN now. The propoganda meant to swing votes in the US is causing huge shifts of world demographics against us as well. The Michael Moore/Hollywood propoganda movies don’t help either.

Once that Genie is out of the bottle, it is hard to put back in. Obama will not get better treatment, and now any moron thinks they have the right to throw shoes, spit, or God forbid kill a President.

Remember the virtual fence? Bureaucrats at their best!

As far as Fanny and Freddy go, the Democrats wrote the legislation that gave the Secretary of the Treasury Billions to play with……….. all with the threat that the world was going to end tomorrow, a month or so ago….. President Bush didn’t have to sign it………… it was Democratic policies, legislations, and politicians that got us into this mess……….. and guess what?

………….. With the Democrats in control, the cause of the problem still exists, and the Democrats have thrown Trillions at it to try to cover up their failed policies.
