Quote of the day

posted at 10:00 pm on December 12, 2008 by Allahpundit

Why make “Che”? What relevance does it have to 2008?

We’re certainly seeing the result of what happens when you make profit the point of everything, where money that’s being earned doesn’t represent any particular product or labor on anybody’s part. That can’t sustain, because it’s magical thinking. It can’t go on indefinitely, because eventually it crashes. Che’s dream of a classless society, a society that isn’t built on the profit motive, is still relevant. The arguments still going on are about his methodology

I can’t sit here and say “Che” is a feel-good movie … or a feel-bad movie. It is what it is — an attempt to re-create a piece of history. It’s not a recruitment film. What I hope happens when people come out of the theater is they’ll ask themselves, “Wow, is there anything in my life I feel that passionate about?”

yes I mean that literally.

There is nothing remotely redeemable about Che. An evil man with an evil cause. And I don’t say that lightly.

“Wow, is there anything in my life I feel that passionate about?”

I feel passionate about butchering my political enemies and staging mass executions after flimsy Stalinist show trials!

Che is an inspiration.

Lehosh on December 12, 2008 at 10:07 PM

For good or ill, Che is perhaps capitalism’s greatest maskot, right behind Ronald McDonald or Mickey Mouse. This hagiography is just another shameless attempt to cash in on the Defiance-Industry tm.

What I don’t understand about the people who don’t like the profit motive is that you can live a perfectly comfortable life without going for profit.

Why can’t they just live their lives modestly and stfu? Oh wait, they want to change the world. Maybe they need to get their egos in check.

Allahpundit…………… what a perfect description of what the Federal Government, under the control of the Democrats, are doing today.

…………. with one exception, we, as citizens, are left to pay the bill while they continue to spend like drunken bureaucrats……….. “Che” would be proud, if he wasn’t busy killing so many people.

……………. get the popcorn, enjoy!

Che didn’t dream of a classless society anymore than Castro did. He dreamed of a society with an entitled Communist ruling class… and everyone else.

Hollowpoint on December 12, 2008 at 10:15 PM

Bill Ayers, Che, hey they meant well so let’s no worry too much about the “methdology.”

But, of course, they didn’t mean well and their means was part and parcel of their goal. That is the attainment of power and the suppression of all those who stand their way of attaining that power. Rich, poor, black, white, Jew, Gentile.

It’s much more than just about who owns the means of production.

How do you think Obama’s relationship will be with Hollywood in years ahead? The town seems very cozy with him, but he’s also made comments about parents turning off the TV so kids can study and he’s complained some rap is too raunchy.

“It’s hard to say….”

I stopped right there. I didn’t have to read no more. What do they take us for? Fool’s? Hard to say? Best laugh I have had in a couple of days.

Speaking of classless:

Che, the hero of leftists the world over, was a vile racist.

Two quotes from Che:

“We’re going to do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the revolution. By which I mean: nothing.”

Che wrote, “their different attitudes of life separate them completely: the black is indolent and fanciful, he spends his money on frivolity and drink; the European comes from a tradition of working and saving which follows him to this corner of America and drives him to get ahead.”

Well,lets see,

In Obama’s acceptance speech at the Roman Temple Pillars,
at the football stadium,Obama said he was going to create
a million new jobs!

So,after Obama creates all these infrastruture jobs,by
the Liberal Socialist Administration, and after the cash
dries up,and the tax money dries up,and the temporary
jobs also dries up!

Obama will have to deal with all the “Che’s” that he has
created!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh on a side note, this reminds me of Bill Clinton’s pledge
to hire 100,000 new police officers during his term, more
smoke and mirrors by the ever sneaky crafty Democrats!!

“Killer Chic: Hollywood’s Sick Love Affair with Che Guevara”

TEXT OF PRESS ALERT SENT TODAY BY CUBA ARCHIVE:

Today Reason.TV released the short, 8-minute long documentary, “Killer Chic: Hollywood’s Sick Love Affair with Che Guevara.” Available here, it is a timely contribution as a new film glamorizing Ché Guevara is being released.

…He showed no mercy for those sentenced to death and mocked and terrorized their suffering families, quickly becoming known as “The Butcher of La Cabaña.” The history is well known –in fact, the events were deliberately publicized by the government in order to spread fear among the population. Among his later deeds, he inspired the concentration camps established in Cuba for youngsters, gays, and religious figures, called for nuclear annihilation of the United States, and worked to establish Maoist-Communist revolution in Africa and Latin America.

What I hope happens when people come out of the theater is they’ll ask themselves, “Wow, is there anything in my life I feel that passionate about?”

…let us not forget that what Che was passionate about was killing people he didn’t agree with, fiddling with national power, and posturing…he was only ever good at the latter….

…speaking as someone trained in what Che was supposed to be doing, I can only say that he makes a great icon…he was also a middling writer…he sucked as a guerilla, a commander, a soldier, and paid for his incompetence….

…it’s all about passion today…it was Franklin, I believer, who reminded us that when Madame Passion rules, she seldom rules wisely….

…better: “Wow, is there anything in my life that I do that’s useful to anyone other than myself and my all-too-sensitive, childish and over-active ‘feelings’?”

Che chic! How I’d love to force these Utopian idealistic elitist fools to live under a Che system, for a few years, without the knowledge that they could come back.

There are few in the world I despise more than Che himself. His followers have no clue what he really was, none, not even an inkling of that reality.

I like best how Che died, like the wuss that he was. And the plankton banks admire him, heh.

1959

This is not a Communist Revolution in any sense of the term,” The New York Times had declared a year earlier. “Fidel Castro is not only not a Communist, he is decidedly anti-Communist.”

Pigs then, pigs now.

“No matter!” answered Rodriguez. “I think we’ve got Che pin-pointed! Send them in!” Barely a week later Che was yelling his pitiful plea to those Bolivian Rangers. “Don’t Shoot! — I’m Che, I’m worth more to you alive than dead!” [47]

On first account, Rodriguez is a great guy.

The Bolivian high command didn’t see it that way. Though he was captured alive, Che was executed the next day. Compared to the courageous and defiant yells of his own firing squad victims — “I kneel for no man! Viva Cuba Libre! Viva Cristo Rey! Abajo Comunismo! Aim right HERE!” — Che Guevara proved on his last day alive that he was unworthy to carry his victims’ slop buckets.

Wuss – “Wow, is there anything in my life I feel that passionate about?”

If it’s an intellectually honest piece, I’d hope people are too busy asking themselves, “Wow, how do people who sell Che gear live with themselves while peddling the visage of a mass murderer?”

Che was pretty passionate about shooting “Enemies of La Revalucion” in the head at close range while they were bound hand and foot.

Not entirely sure how that sort of figure evokes any sort of healthy passion in a person.

Guess that makes me some sort of “rightwing nutjob”, but if so, so be it…

All those bourgoise college kids who worshipped this guy from 1968 to today, the teachers who knew two or three facts about him but loved having a mythic hero for “radicalizing” the youngsters and the parents who had no idea about the guy their kids idolized, all have been fools for this killer. Another fool is born every second to worship demagogues.

A recent heartwarming development was the CHE posters on the walls in The One’s campaign offices.

Well said. And, also, what the Left in the entertainment industry is all about.

I’m curious if Politico, as also Soderbergh, the two starring actors and the screenwriter of “Che” are going to plow those profits back into “society”.

No?

I’m betting they’re all enjoying a higher standard of living than most while opining about how everyone (else) should be servicing “the revolution” to float their lifestyles.

S on December 13, 2008 at 5:43 AM

Funny how there is a double standard between Cuba and South Africa.

Che was a monster. That much said, I liked the Motorcycle Diaries (showing Che in his youth traveling through Argentina on his bike). It was a good movie. Whether Che remains a good movie remains to be seen, but mere passion is not good or bad or something to be celebrated. T.O. has passion. Hilter and Stalin had passion. Saddam had passion. So what.

Liberals strain for any so called evidence of capitalism’s failure. Specifically when it is here in America. The Big 3 going under,, fraud in the stock market,, a rise in unemployment. They will create stories about the so called hungry and America,, the so called victims of big business.
But,, what of the victims of communism?

61,911,000 Murdered: The Soviet Gulag State
35,236,000 Murdered: The Communist Chinese Ant Hill
1,670,000 Murdered: The Vietnamese War State
1,585,000 Murdered: Poland’s Ethnic Cleansing

One could probably argue that in some of these communist nations,, the dead may be the fortunate ones. At least for some of the dead,, their suffering may have ended. Accept for those at the top of the food change,, the vast majority endure fear, starvation and intimidation on a daily basis.
No,, they can and will not see it. They glorify prison states like Cuba and idolize murderers like Che while vilifying WalMart.

You assume that they don’t know of the murders and that if they did they would object.

How many people were slated to die according to BO’s former terrorist buddy? Wasn’t it something like 25 million would have to die for the cause? The liberals know that communism brings mass execution but they consider it just part of the process to eliminate the unwanted people that would complicate the future. Kind of like the way they view abortion. It’s not really murder because they really aren’t people or are too defective to be considered the same as people so it’s not only alright to get rid of them, it’s a moral obligation of the great society.

It’s a brief and easy read but very enlightening. The perfect holiday gift for the deluded teen in your life.

That’s actually Chavez they want it named after.

I might be OK with it – if along with it there’s a big campaign to educate people on why Chavez HATED illegal immigrants – he knew what they did to wages.

Oh come on guys, don’t be so hard on this movie.

What would all the bitter washed-up stars and snot nosed brainless kids have to crow about without it? ;)

I’m curious if Politico, as also Soderbergh, the two starring actors and the screenwriter of “Che” are going to plow those profits back into “society”.

What profits? Hollywood accounting is the most creative in the world. Every penny of the gross is somehow written off by some accounitng trick. Art Buchwald sued over “Coming to America.” He was supposed to get a percentage of the profits. He had to sue because Paramount kept showing that there were no “profits.” His advice was to get a percentage of the gross.

Passionate People:

–Rosie O.

–9/11 hijackers

–Jimmy Swaggart

–Jimmy Carter

–Code Pinkos

Do we need any more? I think not.

What I hope happens when people come out of the theater is they’ll ask themselves, “Wow, is there anything in my life I feel that passionate about?”

Are we supposed to feel that way after watching, say Triumph of the Will

?

Another interesting thing to note about the leaders of those countries when all those atrocities were committed is the fact that they were all self professed Atheists.

That is very distressing to hear. I told my wife just yesterday after I set off the alarm at 6am and woke everyone if I was getting Alzheimers.

Chavez, not Che. Radishes, not Revolution. God help me.

Yeah.

And just to head off any possible retort about Hitler – which usually comes up when someone mentions Communism and atheists – he was so deep into the occult and that weird pagan blood religion revolving around himself and the Aryan race that it was crazy.

Ryan Gandy on December 13, 2008 at 11:18 PM

Conservatives can make movies too. Make the movie “The Real Che.”

Meh. When mega-death is the result, both are execrable.

Bush is Hitler. Che is a hero.

What a world.

spmat on December 14, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Che was just another scumbag who used the promise of a utopian society as a path to power and abuse of everyone that supported him. He got less than he deserved.

If I have to make one with for humanity it’d have to be that they all wake up and realize that as humans, utopia is an impossibility. Only then will humanity learn to live within it’s possibilities and improve it’s general situation.

Until then, we have to deal with asshat dictators and sock puppets in chief.

Never intended to imply that Hitler was anything other than a SOB on wheels.
