Rezko’s singing, Blago investigation shows; Update: Feds asking about Obama-Rezko land deal

How much larger will the scandal surrounding Rod Blagojevich grow? According to a footnote in the affadavit filed by US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, the sky could be the limit. Convicted political fixer Tony Rezko has been singing to investigators, and his connections reach all the way to the White House:
A footnote to the 76-page criminal complaint and affidavit charging Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) with soliciting bribes confirms what has long been rumored — that a former longtime friend and fundraiser for President-elect Barack Obama is talking to federal prosecutors in hopes of a reduced sentence.
Antoin “Tony” Rezko’s offer to provide authorities with evidence of others’ wrongdoing is “not complete,” and prosecutors are working to corroborate the claims he has made so far, the footnote said.
Rezko, a 53-year-old developer, was convicted in June of 16 criminal counts, including fraud, money laundering and abetting bribery. He is in custody awaiting sentencing.
Prosecutors depicted Rezko at trial as a fixer for Blagojevich and the man to see to secure a high-level appointment with the governor’s administration. Rezko had been a longtime fundraiser for Blagojevich and other Illinois politicians, including Obama.
The Washington Post spends the next six paragraphs stating and analyzing Fitzgerald’s statement from Tuesday that nothing in the affadavit has anything to do with Barack Obama. They coo over how “unusual” it is for prosecutors to issue those kinds of statements, but that ignores the context of Fitzgerald’s statement. Reporters peppered him with questions about Obama and his potential connections to the scandal, and Fitzgerald told them to read the affadavit, because everything he had was in there.
Obviously, this is an ongoing investigation, and Fitzgerald will go where the evidence leads. Thus far, it has led to Blagojevich, although it seems unlikely that Rezko has any connection to the Illinois governor’s attempts to sell Obama’s Senate seat; that had to come from another source. Rezko will have plenty of information on other potential instances of corruption involving Illinois politics, and everyone with whom Rezko worked could be implicated.
Obama and Rezko worked together for more than ten years in Illinois politics. If Rezko was as dirty as a jury verdict states and as federal prosecutors believe, how likely is it that anyone employing him was squeaky clean? Their political association lasted over ten years, during the period when Rezko was corrupting state politics. It’s certainly possible that Rezko’s corruption didn’t involve Obama, but to assume it didn’t seems far too credulous by half, especially with the present example of Illinois politics before us now.
If Rezko’s singing, many politicians are sweating. Obama may be one of them. Let’s see what happens before being dismissive of the possibility.
Update: Mickey Kaus puts together this article with a Washington Times story from Election Day (via Jim Geraghty):
A former Illinois real estate specialist says FBI agents have questioned him about a Chicago property that had been bought by convicted felon Tony Rezko’s wife and later sold to the couple’s next-door neighbor, Sen. Barack Obama.
The real estate specialist, Kenneth J. Conner, said bank officials replaced an appraisal review he prepared on the property and FBI agents were investigating in late 2007 whether the Rezko-Obama deal was proper.
“Agents and I talked about payoff, bribe, kickback for a long time, though it took them only a short number of minutes of talking with me while looking at the appraisal to acknowledge what they already seemed to know: The Rezko lot was grossly overvalued,” Mr. Conner told The Washington Times Monday.
“Rezko paid the asking price on the same day Obama paid $300,000 less than the asking price to the same seller for his adjacent mansion,” he said. “This begs the question of payoff, bribe, kickback.”
Rezko’s singing. The only thing we don’t know is the extent of the tune — and this at least suggests that has several verses.

So you are suggestioning dishonesty like say the Huff Po does?

What do you think is there??

Romeo13 – no, Blago would have gotten his payoff, he just wasn’t willing to let Obama put it on the deferred-payment plan.
“In God we trust, all others pay cash” – obviously Blago didn’t think Obama was Godly enough.

STFU! What the hell are you peddling? This is not deranged trutherism. It is a fact that Obama came out of the same corrupt political machine that Blagojevich did. It is a fact that he and Blago scratched eachother’s backs w/endorsements of their various campaigns. It is a fact that Rezko bankrolled both of them and probably several others. It is a fact that Obama has many, many questionable associations. It is a fact that Obama has never been vetted, period.
If you are questioning whether or not this will bring him down, that is legitimate. If you asking why people are curious about this, then you need to put down the crack pipe and stop calling people hateful truthers. It is about time people got curious. And as stated previously, quoting approval ratings for a president-elect? PLEASE!!!

Jam ignore AprilOrit.
I forget — is she is the one who claimed to be a war hero, lawyer and millionaire or the one who writes the same slop 22 times in a row or the drive-by zinger commander?
Whichever, I suggest that you save your time.
I am a birther and the trolls here are beneath contempt. They can’t even stymie Berg’s arguments.
Now there are otherplaces where they are worth the fight. Not here.
These liberals are total idiots.

And liars.
One claimed to have read the briefs on one of the challenge suits before the SCOTUS they were just submitted within a day or so. Now I have done reading like that and it would be impossible to simply write, “…totally without merit and Justice Scalia will agree also as he is a fine Jurist.”

One of my too-good-to-be-true conspiracy theories regarding the media and Obama was that they pimped the guy into the Oval Office because they figured they could then pump their circulation and viewership for the next four years by rolling out scandal after scandal.
Has it begun?

On the Obama real estate snafu, I remember Obama stating (paraphrasing, but this is pretty close) that the purchase of the property vis a vis Rezko was a “dumb mistake.”
My take is that a person with character would have said that doing the real estate deal with the Rezkos was wrong, and a terrible mistake. When he has only to state it was dumb and only comes out with that statement after he is caught, I smell a skunk in the kitchen.
There is no real repentence there. It smacks of oh damn, they caught me and boy was I dumb.

That’s right! Move along, nothing to see. Pay no attention to the scandal behind the curtain.

More of the same t-r-o-o-o-th-e-r-i-s-m. When have I ever claimed to be a war hero, or a lawyer (my father and my sister are) or a millionaire?? Although I live well in NYC, maybe in your neck of the woods that translates into something different than here. And I have never served in the military.
Show me the post Chucky Truther. I have never made such claims.
And when the blog owners simply tried to dispelled the Truther rumors and innuendo – you guys attacked them viciously. Why – because they were telling you something you did not want to hear.
Yeah right – if you believe that crap about the blog owners you’re the hopeless misguided troll.
You do not want to deal in reality – you want to deal in political partisan drama, which would be fine if it was based on real facts. You guys have two idenities – Chucky Truther or Stormy Tony.
I am peddling reality and I am not questioning why people are questioning him. I was referencing the lies that are being added to the mix that do not support any evidence – yet. So much for justice.
Let’s wait and see what the real story is before we start gloating like a bunch of DU losers – was my only point. And because I am asking people to merely stick with the facts that have been presented, instead of reading into what they think Patrick Fitzgerald means and says, or what he will probably say, I am being told to STFU.
Again, Patrick Fitzgerald is not investigating Barack Obama for now – although it may be a yet. When that yet comes to fruition – it will be fact, but not until then.
