…or conservatives in general.

Since when has Powell been a bastion of conservative thought?

MadisonConservative on December 11, 2008 at 6:41 PM

SCREW YOU Colin! It’s the shunning of these values that is ruining America!

cannonball on December 11, 2008 at 6:42 PM

In three, two, one…

Um, I’m going with: Not well.

meltenn on December 11, 2008 at 6:42 PM

Hum, seems like the question wasn’t even about Sarah Palin.. Still trying to trash her. Like the Libs never move to the far left.

reshas1 on December 11, 2008 at 6:42 PM

Or better yet, Powell could stop polarizing the party by endorsing Democrats.

km on December 11, 2008 at 6:42 PM

Colin, about those WMDs…

changer1701 on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Interesting that 5 weeks out of an election, Palin is still talked about.

Thought the whole country hated her?

lorien1973 on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

When socialists and Obama do it, it’s “speaking truth to power”.

When Palin does it she’s getting them all uppity, eh?

Skywise on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Do you really have to wonder? Excuse me as I vomit…

Dritanian on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Moron.

Jim708 on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Who cares what you think, Powell? Pi$$ off.

Cody1991 on December 11, 2008 at 6:44 PM

And you are????

Major Nuisance on December 11, 2008 at 6:44 PM

Powell needs to go home and stay.

Powell was the one who sat there at the UN convincing the world that Saddam had WMDs and then later said he had been lied to. To which I reply — Huh??? By Who?

At that point I lost all respect for Powell, forever.

tarpon on December 11, 2008 at 6:45 PM

So what’s the bet on the thread count for this one? And on the count until the trolls show up? I’ll start the bidding at 35 on that one.

meltenn on December 11, 2008 at 6:45 PM

sarcasm Yeah, there’s no place for such plebeian values as honor, integrity, patriotism, duty, loyalty, neighborliness, piety, dignity, and self-sacrifice in today’s world. /sarcasm

I think I’ll keep my small town values, thank you very much Mr. Powell. Maybe you should try to rediscover yours–you seem to have misplaced them.

Matt Helm on December 11, 2008 at 6:45 PM

What is it with him and Palin anyways? SHe never said anything about the Northern part of Virginia. Fuck of Powell

Dritanian on December 11, 2008 at 6:46 PM

It’s disgusting. Just because you’re appointed by a GOP POTUS, it doesn’t mean you’re a conservative. But, nonetheless, I had an Obama shill arguing with me about the fact that Powell=conservative and since Powell endorsed Obama, conservatives=Obama supporters as well. I finally got him to concede that Powell may not be conservative. But he had to tack on that Powell is “right-leaning, that’s for sure!”
(rolls eyes)

VolMagic on December 11, 2008 at 6:49 PM

That’s pretty funny.

Obama characterizes small town folks as bitter religious people who cling to guns and are suspicious of everyone not like them … and gets a pass from Uncle Colin.

Palin characterizes them as good, hard working, patriotic, honest folk and gets labeled as a dreaded “Polarizer”.

I like Palin’s characterizations better.

MadisonConservative on December 11, 2008 at 6:41 PM

Ow. That hurt my brain.

MadisonConservative on December 11, 2008 at 6:49 PM

Why is it all the soft GOPers and Rinos summarily dismiss their own disparaging comments as divisive?

Seems as with the left, Powell et al caustic comments are OK because he/they… mean well.

bains on December 11, 2008 at 6:49 PM

I find this clip rather ironic in light of the Blago/Chicago politics this week.

meltenn on December 11, 2008 at 6:50 PM

Attitudes have changed about openly-gay military service? Oh, really, Colin? Whose attitudes? Certainly not mine! Speak for yourself, a-hole.

MsUnderestimated on December 11, 2008 at 6:50 PM

I just don’t see the relevance. Powell is irrelevant in today’s political landscape.

Spirit of 1776 on December 11, 2008 at 6:50 PM

Why do we call Powell a Republican? It is obvious he is in the tank for The One. Hooray for Palin and small town values. I’ll keep those rather than San Franscisco (or as we’re finding out Chicago) values. So when a Democrat disguised as a Republican blasts Palin AGAIN! it is obvious they are still scared of the ‘Cuda! You Go Girl!

Christian Conservative on December 11, 2008 at 6:50 PM

OMG what a douche. I thought Huckabee was the worst. Shouting at people? Dividing the party? Sara was the best thing that happened to Mccain.

birdhurd on December 11, 2008 at 6:51 PM

My goodness, I forgot that Powell gave “character” testimony for Sen. Ted Stevens at Stevens’ corruption trial.

Now I know the answer to my own question. Values? Pork-barrel corruption and DC cronyism.

And which Alaskan politician Powell prefers.

Wethal on December 11, 2008 at 6:51 PM

He did make some valid points about demographics, etc.

However, it was difficult to take his criticism of Palin seriously while he was cheerleading Obama. The R’s apparently need to look at Obama’s “consistency” and staying on message, apparently.

What?

Also, he seems ready to get rid of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (obviously moving left, but that’s another subject). In other words, he’s ready to jettison the social cons and remake the Republican Party as a moderate democratic party.

I was also reminded of a Seinfeld episode (Not that there’s anything wrong with that! was the theme) while he was talking about Palin and social cons. Sounds to me like he’s saying “It’s okay to be socially conservative, just don’t do too much to implement socially conservative planks in your platform if you want to win.”

I for one think he’s dead wrong. Selling conservative principles with integrity and consistency usually works, when it’s actually tried. It wasn’t tried this election.

Seems to me too many people are talking about the “good of the party” instead of the good of the people.

KCB on December 11, 2008 at 6:52 PM

Wow, no wonder he read Saddam wrong. The guy has no clue. Either he is purposefully mischaracterizing what Sarah Palin said and did (and intentionally ignoring what Lightworker’s campaign said and did to trigger those things) or he he is really stupid.

I’m too lazy to look up the census figures on rural versus urban dwellers to see if he got that part of “most of us don’t live in small town America,” but he’s certainly ignoring the physical distribution of “small town” folks. Kind of odd for a general.

Fortunately, the last time I checked, he was not in the running for RNC chair or any party leadership post — thank God no one of consequence is listening to him.

Y-not on December 11, 2008 at 6:52 PM

Why do we call Powell a Republican?

Christian Conservative on December 11, 2008 at 6:50

I don’t really think we do … the media uses him as their representative “Republican” implying he speaks for many.

lorien1973 on December 11, 2008 at 6:43 PM

Still being talked about isn’t really a good measure of whether or not you’re liked. Hitler and his actions are still discussed 60+ years later. Obviously I’m not equating the two, but many hated people are still discussed.

amerpundit on December 11, 2008 at 6:53 PM

Colin, I’ll take one Palin over a million of you any day, week, month, year, decade, century, millenium.

You are a left center RINO who has no business outside military issues. It’s why you can’t be POTUS yourself due to your one-dimensional life.

Sapwolf on December 11, 2008 at 6:54 PM

Powell,
The minute you endorsed Obama you ceased being relevant to any conservative philosophy or party platform.

Thank you,

OK, so I left something out, but I agree.
I can’t stand him any more because:
1. he kept quiet while skuder(?) libby took the heat and he knew how really outed plame. I don’t care if he thought he had to shut up. Any honorable person would not let an innocent man take the heat.
2. yes, he came out for barry.
Let him support the man who is the same colour and I’m sure that is part of it.

Dritanian on December 11, 2008 at 6:59 PM

This from a guy who endorsed the dhimocraptic candidate for president, and I assume solely because of the racial thingy.
Mr. powell was asked twice to enter the repub nomination race, where he could have led the party in the direction he wanted. Now, after he has deserted the party, he wants to tell it how to do things. At least now, thanks to the repubs and many good men, he can go to Bagdad, unlike during the first gulf war when he didn’t.

Dritanian on December 11, 2008 at 6:51 PM

Yeah, but was he good at what he did? Or was he just a symbol?

VolMagic on December 11, 2008 at 6:59 PM

The only reason he was so “respected” was because he was one of the few black notables in the party. He never shared conservative values. He just surfed the opportunity wave given to him by Republican administrations and as soon as he felt betrayed, as in the whole Iraq deal, he turned into the same old whining victim champion as all the other liberals and showed his true colors.

I don’t think anyone cares about Wall Street Republicans (known as Rino’s) anymore. Conservatives are freaking tired…. and we can hear the BS cry of the boy who blew!

upinak on December 11, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Well, Powell did say that Palin is smart and distinguished. But he makes the same error in logic that so many did during the campaign. He says that praising rural values alienates urban voters. But then he praises urban values, which presumably would alienate rural voters according to his logic. Why is one good and the other bad?

Noticed him weaseling on “don’t ask, don’t tell”. He doesn’t say it should be repealed, just that it should be looked at. He’s copying his hero, Obama.

Could be some interesting policy at the intersections of legal gay marriage and a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Will the military have to give base housing, joint assignments, and military spouse hiring preference to gay couples? Will make for some lively debate.

Now as for you personally, STFU and crawl back into the void you were in after losing all credibility around 2003-2004. Thanks for playing, you Armchair General, pompous,arrogant,maid-servant for the Obamacon Left. You made your Liberal bed so sleep in the wet spot.
