Depends on how you define “contact”; Update: Blago newsletter photo included

Barack Obama has gone out of his way to make his incoming administration Clintonesque.  Not only has he built 63% of his transition team from Clinton administration officials, he even picked Hillary Clinton for a Cabinet post.  Now Obama appears to have restored another Clinton tradition — in word parsing.  Ace has this picture from the December 2nd meeting with the National Governors Association:

That image belies Obama’s statement from Tuesday, following the arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich:

“I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.”

Is this anything like parsing the meaning of the word “is”?  Obviously, Obama made contact with Blagojevich a week before the statement at the December 2nd NGA conference.  Did they discuss the Senate succession?  Probably not, but it’s not necessarily out of the question, either.

Barack Obama had better learn precision in the future.

Update: Verum Serum notes this photo as well, — taken from Blagojevich’s official newsletter dated 11/12/08, eight days after the election .  The topic of the story?  The Senate succession:

Governor Blagojevich confers with now President‐Elect Barack Obama

“Last night’s victory was bittersweet for Illinois ‐ as we gain a great President, we lose a great Senator.  And it goes without saying that our next Senator has big shoes to fill. Because it’s important that the best person for Illinois is selected, I want to be clear that the calendar won’t dictate our search. Instead, I want to ensure that Obama’s successor will understand and fight for the needs of average Illinoisans,” Governor Blagojevich said.

Governor Blagojevich will be looking for candidates that will support the President‐Elect’s agenda for the people; effectively represent the interests of the state of Illinois in the U.S. Congress; work with the  governor’s administration to achieve their shared goals of ensuring access to affordable healthcare, rebuilding Illinois’ infrastructure, improving the economic security and livelihoods of Illinois workers, and caring for our most vulnerable; and prioritize the average Illinoisan who is too burdened by taxes and economic hardship.

Does this mean that they discussed the Senate succession?  As I wrote above, not necessarily, and it’s worth pointing out that the photo itself is undated.  Neither, though, does it mean that they didn’t discuss it, either before or after the election, or both.

When you’re looking at the article, touch the key on the top row of your keyboard that says something like “Prt Sc” (Print Screen).

Open a program like MS Paint, and just paste (Ctrl/V). Save and name it, and there you go.

From Obama’s presser today:

“I’ve asked my team to gather the facts of any contacts with the governor’s office about this vacancy so that we can share them with you over the next few days.”

Let me interpret that for you: “I’ve asked my team to get their stories straight and decide who to throw under the bus.”

Interesting…..

I hope Blago sings and sings and sings… just like Rezko is now!

I hope the mysterious papers in the Chicago Library come forth magically in a stocking.

I hope that change in on the wind for those in IL whom have been used, abused and pinned into believing that everything is great, even when you knee deep in sewage.

I hope that one day, Chicago become a place where one can look and not feel repulsed via the Democratic sewage that tainted the city and outskirts.

This is my Christmas Wish!

This could become a real stinker for Obama. It looks to me like Obama is just another Chicago politician that thrived in the corruption mix. I’m sure he can dance with the best of them though. None of this will likely take him down. His house purchase and his associations with thugs haven’t hert him yet so this probably won’t either.

The second photo is probably a file photo of the Governor Blagojevich and President-elect Obama. The newsletter doesn’t state that Blago was in contact with Obama. So the newsletter is an non-issue.

indythinker on December 11, 2008 at 12:11 PM

Some have theorized that Fitz has made moves to protect Obama from the taint of this investigation.

If that’s the case, Obama is apparently not cooperating.

The media can ignore every aspect of this if they so desire, the investigation is just now ramping up and Obama is currently involved in two separate investigations.

Unless you’re the kind of person that believes in very large scale conspiracy theories it will be near impossible for Obama to extricate himself from this with his image intact.

The photo does look very odd come to think about it. I had to get in the shower after I wrote my post. Now that I feel human. I looked at it again. It is odd looking photo. Not trying to be a truth er. But it is a odd picture. The One isn’t looking at anyone directly. Who ever said that is right.

sheebe on December 11, 2008 at 12:56 PM

I of course meant to say he’s not lying in my previous comment, missed the “not”.

I’m wondering if they guys are so used to Chicago Politics that they weren’t ready for this kind of thing. I can’t believe that Rahm is that foolish.

The real question is what the media will do. The more they attempt to “cover” and “explain” the more they imply something not in evidence; corrupt involvement of the president elect.

We already knew the president elect had no problems lying down with dogs, it just remains to be seen if he has fleas.

petertheslow on December 11, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Dang, didn’t notice the second pic. They look secretive…….. Interesting.

sheebe on December 11, 2008 at 12:57 PM

And someone managed to get a screen shot of Vera Baker’s website before it got scrubbed…amateurs can’t figure out how the internet works. Normally when a website is taken down, the owner doesn’t go to the extent of scrubbing all the “tracks” like the Google Archive Cache…Who is Vera Baker and Why is she in Martinique…will Vera Baker, be at the inauguration?

The blogosphere’s free press democracy strikes again, and now the MSM orthodoxy needs another amendment. The left will wonder how can they use the Fairness Doctrine to muzzle these pesky fact finding bloggers. They ponder: “Aren’t a lot of internet connections over WIRELESS AIR WAVES? – Obama’s FCC needs to look into that.”

Mark30339 on December 11, 2008 at 1:07 PM

Yeah,..that’s contact,..and the second picture looks like lust…at least that will last longer.
So the bigger question here is,…How narcissistic must hussein be to think Americans will buy into EVERY word he say’s?
“Don’t tell me words don’t matter”

christene on December 11, 2008 at 1:16 PM

It may have been said elsewhere, but this is a genuine situation requiring the “willing suspension of disbelief”.

Of course Obama and/or his representatives talked to the Gov. about Obama’s replacement. They’d have to be incompetent not to have done so. Obama will be president, he will need a compliant Senate and House to go along with his programs and policies, so of course he’s going to be determined to ensure that he has at least one senator in his back pocket…his own replacement. Anyone who imagines for one second that Obama and his team just watched as disinterested bystanders while the Gov. made his decision on the replacement has their head firmly planted in the sand…or elsewhere.

ObaMcCarthy hasn’t even been inaugurated and scandals abound in his Hopeychangy administration.

The only change Obama has brought to government seems to be the complete immersion into dirty politicking rather than the toe dipping variety.

You know how this is going to play out don’tcha? ObaMcCarthy will get busted and he’ll blame it on the fact that the only way for a clean articulate African-American to get ahead is to play whitey’s game. And of course whitey would never give ObaMcCarthy the cover they would give a fellow whitey so where ObaMcCarthy gets caught, most whiteys get away with it.
