Jesse Jackson Jr: “I am not — I am not — a target of this investigation”
posted at 5:40 pm on December 10, 2008 by Allahpundit
That’s the word from the U.S. Attorney’s office, or so he says. Of course, he also says he’s stunned by the news that Blago’s a borderline sociopathic crook, even though the evidence of that was sufficiently compelling to have driven his public approval rating into the low single digits months ago.
Worth watching in full, partly for the Obama ass-kissing at the very end and partly because we’ll be revisiting it — frequently — if Senate Candidate 5 ends up on Fitzgerald’s radar screen after all. The lingering, million-dollar question (literally): If Jackson didn’t ask his cronies to play ball with Blagojevich, who did? Hmmm. Meanwhile…
In two other interesting developments Wednesday, NBC Chicago learned that Jackson Jr. was given a phone call from the U.S. Attorney’s Office the night before the governor was taken into custody, advising him that the arrest was imminent. Also, the congressman’s father, Jesse Jackson Sr., has retained legal council following the Blagojevich arrest.

Or maybe it was to tell Senate Candidate 5 to fuhgeddaboutit. The Senate seat, that is.

Referred to as the Dynamic Duo, the team of Cochran and Montgomery lead one of the most prolific personal injury firms in Chicago and throughout the country.”

JiangxiDad on December 10, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Yeah, somebody seems to have run interference. My guess is that BO wanted Valerie Jarrett with no money up front. Whoever dealt with Blago realized he was shopping the Senate seat and/or Fitzpatrick was ready to move. Jarrett neatly removed herself to another position.
Jarrett is an interesting character. She’s neck deep in Chi-town politics with Rezko (among others) associations and is probably BO’s closest adviser other than Axelrod.
Look up her bio. Very interesting background.

These are questions I’d like to have answered. The bottom line for me is, and always has been, that BO is a Chicago pol and nothing more. He’s never been anything more than that. He is, however, one who has moved far and fast in a short time.
If BO can emerge from the slime of Chicago politics with no stink attached then he may be the messiah, but I have no such illusions about Barry.
Cody1991 on December 10, 2008 at 6:55 PM
Yessiree, it’s getting mighty interesting. Already.
I wonder how long the media can keep up the charade that corrupt Democrat politicians can exist and do crimes in a vacuum, completely separate from all their innocent colleagues.
Somebody from the Obama camp had to have talked to Blago. Really, wouldn’t it be weird if they hadn’t? I’m sure Hillary and her people have had some communications with Paterson about her seat in New York.
But now the Obama team is already in full misspoken/mistaken coverup mode. Hmmm.

I’m not surprised if Jesse Sr. is lawyering up. On Monday afternoon, WLS radio 890 aired a clip of Jackson being asked about the possibility of his son being named to Obama’s senate seat. Sr’s response? “No comment.”
Jackson has never found a microphone he didn’t love. With the exception of his adulterous affair, Jackson has never refused a chance to speak to the press to advance his agenda or family. Given the honor of his son potentially being named a US senator, you’d think he’d belly up but no. Three days after it was revealed that Blagojevich had been wire-tapped, Jackson surprisingly clams up a subject he’d ordinarily about which he’d normally be effusive.
Maybe he was being an emissary without his son’s knowledge. Or maybe he’s finally realized he’s a drag on his son’s career and doesn’t want to appear to be influencing it through the media.

Actually, it’s morphed into something far worse and very damaging for society at large. It’s gratifying to see jj,jr’s Big Daddy in the scramble now.
If this thing really cranks up, I’ll skip the popcorn, get a front row seat and crack out the fine bourbon.
/fingers crossed

the family that lies together serves time together.
JJ Sr. has shown his cards by lawyering up so early.
the question is, why?
JJ Jr. & Sr. know why. guilty conscience

Curious that the “investigation” was disclosed this soon, seems like there would have been a larger pool of fish to be caught in this one given a little more time, like just before the “Inauguration” of his majesty
guspapa on December 10, 2008 at 6:12 PM
Why the hell was Jesse Jr. given a head’s up on the pending arrest.
Good question! Since his Daddy’s got a lawyah now, what was Fitz up to? Unless one of Fitz’s underlings is undermining the investigation.
Or maybe it was to tell Senate Candidate 5 to fuhgeddaboutit. The Senate seat, that is.
But if he is not a target of this investigation, who is? The Anointed One, perhaps?
Go, Fitz, go! You’ve got 41 days…

The lingering, million-dollar question (literally): If Jackson didn’t ask his cronies to play ball with Blagojevich, who did?
Rush had an interesting exit question today.
Who from the Obama camp spoke to Blago informing him that Blago would (only) receive the President-elect’s gratitude?
JiangxiDad on December 10, 2008 at 6:13 PM
Yeah, he’s not a target of this investigation.
He’s the target of an investigation that is all his own.

This too shall end with the firing of 93 US Attorneys, Fitzgerald being part of the great emancipation. After all, that’s how Clinton dealt with the white water US attorney. Maybe Hillary will offer that tip over one of the president-elect luncheon get together, whatev’s.

A few decades ago, I probably was giddy, once or twice. I can’t remember. Are you suggesting that an occasion may arise when I might need to remember?

When I heard the bit about his “shock” of the Governor’s corruption and his little sister calling him, I knew this guy was so full of it like his father.

Ploys like this leave me stone cold with nothing but contempt for these a$$wipes. Interesting how they think they’re “big men”, yet when they get caught with their pants down they cry like babies.
I agree. It’s Stress Factor 11 Mr. Sulu.. I told my wife obama looks like he’s trying to crap a concrete basketball.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at the obamamansion or be able to do an out of body experience to see what’s going on. Bet he isn’t getting any from Michelle for a bit.

FWIW, the Chicago Trib blew the Senate investigation by publishing its story last Friday that Blago was being wiretapped. Another couple days and maybe JJJr would have come up with the $1 Million to play senator.
Given that, maybe Fitz informed JJJr about the upcoming arrest to see who JJJr would call – after all, there are LOTS of wiretaps out there and they are not all Blago’s. Frankly, if Senate candidate #5 or a representative thereof wants to play for pay with Blago, I have to believe Fitz went to a judge for a wiretap warrant within hours to see who #5 and his buds were talking to.

Why, it’s because he’s concerned about this great nation, and the beautiful state of Illinois, and he wants to get to the bottom of the ‘isshas’ as quickly as possible…

Interesting to note Jackson’s choice of words. As I understand it, there is a legal difference between being a target of an investigation and being the subject of an investigation. Is number 5 parsing words, sounds like it to my untrained ear.
If anyone knows the difference between target and subject within this context, I’d like to hear it.

Remember how we felt so soiled by the Clinton years that we needed a shower. Well the manure spreader is back on, and the dems aren’t even inaugurated yet.

Omama and Co. could have more scandals in the fire
prior to swearing in than WJC had during his entire
two terms.
Now thats quite a legacy.
Texyank on December 10, 2008 at 9:01 PM
Maybe JJ Sr is like the Marlon Brando character in The Godfather and has been working behind the scenes to get his son better positions politically but has actually allowed the Jr to get his hands dirty. If I remember correctly these two differed during the primaries on who to support.
Cindy Munford on December 10, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Here is an alternate scenario :
JJ Jr calls up Blago & offers himself as a candidate for the vacant seat
Since JJ Jr knows how politics has always worked in Chicago , he offered what he thought would be a good offer
JJ Jr was not doing anything unusual or new, just following precedent
If senate seats in IL have a price, how much did Obama pay for his ?
macncheez on December 10, 2008 at 9:28 PM
I don’t know anything about anything, I just know that Jesse Jackson Jr. is as dumb as a box of rocks. So, no, there will be no Clintonesque parsing.
He probably is too stupid to know he’s the target of an investigation.

Q . Who benefits if Blago is out of the Gov office ?
Q . What is the one characteristic of Blago that makes IL / Chicago politicians want him to get lost, fast ?
Q . What did Blago do to p!$$ off someone in IL / Chicago , that resulted in Fitzy wanting wire-taps on Blago ?

I don’t think it was all of a sudden.
That creep has needed lawyers all his life.

This is to funny! I went in Gov. Blago’s office. Was in there for 90 minutes. The press saw me arrive and leave………He is lying like a rug. This could be real interesting on down the line. The news said that the investigators have over three hundred hours on the tape of phone calls. Oh,,,,,it is going to be interesting. They haven’t played much of that tape yet. YIPEE YI YO………

REPORTER (to Obama): You’re telling me Mr. Axlerod misspoke when he said that he knew you had met with Gov. Blagojevich regarding the filling of your vacated Senate seat?
OBAMA: It wouldn’t be inaccurate to assume that I couldn’t exactly not say that it is or isn’t almost partially incorrect.
Reporter: So you know he hadn’t misspoke?
OBAMA: On the contrary. I’m possibly more or less not definitely rejecting the idea that in no way with any amount of uncertainty that I undeniably
Reporter: Stop it!
OBAMA: …do or do not know what he shouldn’t probably say, if that indeed wasn’t what he said. Even if he didn’t say whatI knew he was saying, you see?
