Video: Palin on Secretary of State Hillary and meeting Obama
posted at 7:10 pm on December 9, 2008 by Allahpundit
A ‘Cuda fix on a slow day. The first three minutes are devoted to familiar tropes about ANWR and energy policy, so skip ahead. I was hoping for dish on what sort of pleasantries passed in Philadelphia between her and a certain someone who used to pal around with terrorists, but she’s playing it cool for now.
Nothing but kindness for Hillary too, as usual. Thinking back, the only negative thing I’ve heard her say about Her Majesty was in this clip shot before the campaign in which she politely chided her for complaining too often about sexism. (No need to worry about that anymore.) Obviously, she wasn’t about to start a war with our feminist pope before the election, but do I detect some genuine esteem in what she says here? It’s at least a six on the Respect-ometer. Exit question: Where does Palin rate on Hillary’s Respect-ometer, do you suppose? One? Or a total doughnut? Click the image to watch, then select “Canada AM Extended: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin” on the lefthand side.

Gov Palin 2012.
christene on December 9, 2008 at 7:14 PM
Nah, you know what, I bet its something higher. They were both defeated by The Messiah, and even if Hil took the SoS spot, she still probably hates Obama.
For a “zero” on the Respect-o-meter, you’d have to go to that woman who declared that Palin isn’t a woman. For a “one” you go to Maureen Dowd. For a “two” you go two Kathleen Parker.
Hillary can’t possibly hate Palin more than Kathleen Parker.

It’s kind of creepy feeling that a politician is attractive, but this one is not only pretty on the outside….but wonderful on the inside as well.
Democrats don’t make them like this and never will.

Uh Oh, I already see somethign seriously WRONG with this article…. especially since the gas is suppose to be going into IL refineries not Alberta Canada.
Hmmm, maybe on second thought… Alberta should hold the gas… after all the crap going on in IL.

So, did the Gov Of Illinois get his idea for Obama’s Senate Seat from the Alaskan Governor’s Jet?

MirCat on December 9, 2008 at 7:34 PM
Jennifer Flowers would probably be a zero. Paula Jones too. Monica might be a decimal point. Hillary would have to give props to Palin for winning a governorship and dealing with media abuse somewhat similar to what she has faced for many years.

I can’t get enough of this great Governor. After listening about Blago all day, she really shines. I think I need to Alaska, Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to the Conservative movement in a long time. I can’t wait for her to come to Washington DC. She has the perfect Moxie to June Cleaver ratio I’ve ever seen.
Sarah Palin ‘whenever

Since Alberta is a huge hub for natural gas pipelines, building a pipeline to there from Alaska will get Alaskan natural gas to the US.

On this day of too much Blago, it’s nice to reflect on Sarah.
Here’s Dan McLaughlin in one of his Integrity pieces from earlier this fall. He begins the one on Obama by hearkening back to the one on Palin:
INC on December 9, 2008 at 7:52 PM
Yeah, I meant to say Move to Alaska. But I kind of like the sound of “I think I need to Alaska”. Alaska is now a Verb meaning “Regain common sense”.
portlandon on December 9, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Remember in the New Testament Jesus said: “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” In other words the Democrats and the MSM see Sarah for who she really is (despite the ongoing mcokery of her) and what she represents while many in the GOP are too close to the situation to properly evaluate her talents or give her the due consideration and respect that she deserves.

Zorro on December 9, 2008 at 8:08 PM
I think it is quite remarkable that Sarah has not received any fallout from McCain’s campaign positions, his perceived poorly run campaign, and McCain’s support for the bailout. It appears that Sarah has transcended everything and that the base appeared ready to close the door on McCain within 48 hours of the vote and give themselves the opportunity to embrace Sarah if she does indeed want to run in 2012.

What a contrast: Sarah vs Blago –the land of the midnight sun vs the wasteland where the sun never shines
technopeasant on December 9, 2008 at 8:17 PM
I think Palin’s always respected her, just like she probably respects and relates to the other female governors. That respect is probably a little higher now that she’s experienced a national level campaign. Not to get too far down this road, but there really aren’t very many women in positions like that. And there definitely aren’t very many women who have made a serious run at the top jobs. Really, there are only three: Ferraro, Clinton, and Palin (I’m not counting the two or three who didn’t make serious runs.). I would imagine there’s a feeling of ‘you know what it’s like.’ I have no idea what Clinton’s respect level to Palin is, but she always refrained from really attacking her during the campaign. Didn’t the ‘Cuda say in the Greta interview that she was going to call Hillary? I wonder what that conversation was like…
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 8:27 PM
Thanks Allah, for putting this up. Sara Palin is a breath of fresh air and to see her in a non-gotcha interview situation is refreshing. She is more impressive all the time.

I read that it was supposed to go through the Alberta hub and then from there connect through the Canadian system to Illinois and into the lower 48.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 8:58 PM
What is the “Moxie to June Cleaver ratio”?
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:04 PM
My favorite part of the interview is when he asked her how she would have felt about debating Hillary. She flashed her killer smile and said, “I would look forward to debating anybody.”
Right on, sister!
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:08 PM
There is a rumor making the rounds that she actually didn’t support the bailout and didn’t want McCain to vote for it. According to the rumor, her dissension from him on this issue was the first thing to sour the relationship within the campaign.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:12 PM
Luv that Lady….!
DL13 on December 9, 2008 at 9:14 PM
Nice to see crazy Sarah has been studyin’ her NAFTA!
My favorite part was when she said, “… we drive through your country to get even to our own state capital.”
benny shakar on December 9, 2008 at 9:16 PM
I would buy that. She never seemed to give it a wholehearted backing when asked about it. To me at least, it always seemed obvious when she really believed something, and when she was less than enthusiastic or not comfortable with something during the campaign(perhaps I’m just projecting that onto her). See: her answer to Couric’s question about Rick Davis and Fannie Mae. I thought it was obvious that she wasn’t comfortable with the response that the campaign told her to give, especially in the follow-up question that Couric asked about it.
And, in weird news: white powder sent to her office, but addressed to Frank Murkowski the previous gov. Apparently a few other govs have gotten this too. Why was it addressed to Murkowski though? You’d have to have been under a rock for three months to not know who Sarah Palin is.
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 9:22 PM
I must have missed that part of the interview.
Wankar.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:26 PM
Sarah was and is a class act.
Phil Byler on December 9, 2008 at 9:30 PM
I liked that part too. Good interview all around.
A few more details on the powder from the Juneau paper.
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 9:34 PM
Hey, ramrocks, can you give a link to this? That’d be great to see, and, if true, would only increase my already huge respect for Sarah.
hockey2k5 on December 9, 2008 at 9:34 PM
I thought the same thing at the time. When she felt strongly about something, she didn’t need a script and you could tell it came from the heart. See her interviews with call radio personalities for an example of what I mean. In fact, the interview in which she sounds most at ease was the one she gave with those two Alaskan DJs who are friends of hers — Bob & Mark. The interviews are very difficult to listen to because their website is set up kinda funky and the mp3 clips short out and don’t allow you to rewind. I figured out a way to download them to my own computer. I should upload them to youtube for everyone to hear. It’s actually really interesting because they got her to open up and let loose on some of the behind the scenes goings on. She talks about the “going rogue” stuff and who made the stupid decision to put her in front of Couric. She even mentions the firing of Randy Scheunemann.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:34 PM
i wub her!!
on election night, i almost felt like she was too good for all the crap that comes along with being a member of the dc scene. i was truly honored to cast my vote for her on election day. i held my nose for mccain, but it was an honor to cast my vote for a true conservative that gets it.
Rock On, Sarah!!!
sandlin71 on December 9, 2008 at 9:35 PM
Here’s where I heard it. I can’t verify it. It’s just a rumor. Make of it what you will.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Benny, they do drive through Canada to get to Juneau, so what’s the problem with saying that?
What do you mean “studying up on NAFTA”? She’s been negotiating with Canada on all kinds of issues, and surely knows more about it than you do. What is your problem?
juliesa on December 9, 2008 at 9:43 PM
I LOVE HER.
D2Boston on December 9, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Weird. Why would they address it to Murkowski? Maybe it took two years to get to Juneau?
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Where did she actually say that about driving through Canada? I didn’t see that in any of the interviews. I think the little wankar is making it up. But even if he isn’t, who the hell cares?
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:45 PM
That was a nice interview, and it’s fantastic that the pipeline deal was signed.
It’s disgusting, but some of the comments on the lefty blogs mention Palin as engaging in corrupt practices, and being no better than Blago. These people are so far gone–Sarah is the anti-Blago. I always say, no good deed goes unpunished.
juliesa on December 9, 2008 at 9:47 PM
Ramrocks, was this the one nearly right after the election(where they called Hollis French, too)? If so, heard that one (’twas great), but if not, link me!

Benny sits in his mom’s basement, listening to Radiohead, eating cheetos, and playing Warcraft while monitoring HA all day. As soon as a “Palin” thread pops up, he drops his little bombs, giggles, and asks mom to refill his Juicy Juice cup.

abobo on December 9, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Yeah, that was it. It was in four parts and there was also a six minute interview with just Piper, who apparently called into the radio show and eventually handed the phone over to her mom (it was rather funny). It was really difficult to listen to it all unless you download it to your computer. But there’s a lot in that interview if you read between the lines and really listen to what she’s saying. It’s quite apparent that she didn’t like the way the campaign staff handled things. She seemed most frustrated with their refusal to let her speak directly with the press.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Thanks a ton! Great find. Still awesome even though it’s in a message board. :) I wouldn’t be surprised if true! It’s times like these when I want Sarah to write a tell-all book, but then I think, “No. Don’t be like Mike Aw-Shuckabee.”
hockey2k5 on December 9, 2008 at 9:53 PM
I remember that– I thought it would get bigger play, because it was so obvious she was trying to stradle the line of being a team player and being classy while also trying to hint “I couldn’t quite be me”. I also remember it was such a pain in the rear to listen to b/c their website sucked so much! I hope she does more interviews with them. Thanks, Ramrocks.
Pasalubong on December 9, 2008 at 9:56 PM
I’ve worked with politicians for twenty-odd years and a few more and I’ll retire. I am so in awe of Sarah Palin, how different she is from any political figure I have ever dealt with, that I’ve changed my retirement plans. I love the desert and was heading to small-town Arizona or somewhere near Death Valley. Now I’m seriously considering retiring in Alaska. I’m going to take a recon drive up thataway this summer and see what’s real and what people have to say.
I know that Alaska is cold and dark. But it has solitude and the Northern Lights, too. And if Sarah Palin is what she has every appearance of being, and really has an eighty-plus approval rating with the Alaskan voters, I want to live in Alaska simply to live amidst the kind of people who would value her as much as I do. The only thing that could be better is if Alaska would actually secede…. :)

Would that be the same Bob and Mark that referred to an Alaskan Republican Senator as a “bitch” and a “cancer” while interviewing Palin? While Palin just giggled and said she’d be honored to have those guys come to the Capitol? That “Bob and Mark”?
lowandslow on December 9, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Nice pic from the governor’s open house today.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet: her comment about Biden in the interview. I’ve said this before, but I think that those two like each other and could be buddies, and having his ear might help her get some things done for Alaska (or it might not depending on whether or not Obama sidelines him).
Also, I’ve really enjoyed Camille Paglia lately, and I appreciate that she’s stood up for Palin from the start. She likes her even though she disagrees with her, and she’s sticking to her guns.
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Joe Biden’s an enigma to me. On one hand, he’s very much a far-leftie arrogant bloviator– very go-with-the-liberal-tide (ie, against Gulf War I, then for ousting Saddam, then for calling Bush/Cheney evil, etc, etc, etc– yet he does seem to be a decent guy, a good family man who you could just hang with and talk for a half hour about anything– a friend you would have your back. But then a plagarizer. I don’t get him.
Pasalubong on December 9, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Yeah … I agree completely
and his conduct after the debate with Palin was classic … putting his hands on her daughter’s shoulders
He is like a tragic hero
joey24007 on December 9, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Surely you remember the mccain staffers’ horror at poor sarah getting stumped on a NAFTA question during her debate prep. You should be proud – your girl is doing real good now, hun!
I know you people aren’t big on fancy book learnin’ and such, but since this is a blog aren’t you embarrassed to admit you can’t use “the Google”?
Palin talks about driving to Juneau via Canada. Be sure to read the comments – they’re a hoot!
benny shakar on December 9, 2008 at 10:31 PM
He reminds me of Palin a little bit actually. Not for the bad things you mentioned, but for some of the good ones. They’re both warm people, good families, you could chill with them, they’d have your back, decent people, people you would want as your friend, they both like to talk (and sometimes they talk themselves into trouble), etc.
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Thanks, AP!

ddrintn on December 9, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Exactly. I think they saw that in each other so they have a little bit of a bond.
Obama, as Rush often says, strikes me as cold, detached. Or at least not as authentic as Palin/Biden. You could tell in the CTV interview AP linked above she was more fond of Biden then Obama when she talked about them, respectively.
Pasalubong on December 9, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Don’t feed Benny. He thinks he’s a bad-ass because he read Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History” in college, but he finds it a shallow victory as he spends his Saturday nights alone, wondering what the touch of another is like.
Pasalubong on December 9, 2008 at 10:42 PM
I don’t know why you should feel amused by her doubts about whether she wants a future in politics.
I remember reading this post in September over at National Review’s Campaign Spot:
Gee, I can’t imagine why she might roll her eyes and think politics isn’t for her. But perhaps it’s a healthy indication that she’s normal.
ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 10:45 PM
Nah, feed him. He’s more obsessed with Sarah Palin than anyone here. He’s never met a Sarah thread he doesn’t like. :D
ddrintn on December 9, 2008 at 10:46 PM
I agree with you. Biden looks to be a jovial and friendly man, but wrong on policy.
Palin cut her answer on Obama to jet to Biden whom she apparently warmed to and spoke adoringly of.
I really enjoyed their VP debate because it was civil and afterwards, both parties enjoyed each other’s company.
I really detested the top of tickets.
I remember calling my brother and telling him how much I would have liked these two to run against each other this year rather than McCain and Obama.
jencab on December 9, 2008 at 10:47 PM
Benny, there’s a Sarah Palin post in the Headlines section. Camille Paglia is defending Sarah Palin against Ivy League language snobs.
Better get up there to tell everyone that Sarah Palin isn’t smart enough to run complex, overlapping extortion and corruption schemes like Obama’s best buddy Blagejovich.
Jim62sch on December 9, 2008 at 10:51 PM
I think we’re on the same page here: a Palin/Biden Family Christmas! C’mon, it’d be awesome. That would be a rollicking party.
