Video: Palin on Secretary of State Hillary and meeting Obama

posted at 7:10 pm on December 9, 2008 by Allahpundit

A ‘Cuda fix on a slow day. The first three minutes are devoted to familiar tropes about ANWR and energy policy, so skip ahead. I was hoping for dish on what sort of pleasantries passed in Philadelphia between her and a certain someone who used to pal around with terrorists, but she’s playing it cool for now.

Nothing but kindness for Hillary too, as usual. Thinking back, the only negative thing I’ve heard her say about Her Majesty was in this clip shot before the campaign in which she politely chided her for complaining too often about sexism. (No need to worry about that anymore.) Obviously, she wasn’t about to start a war with our feminist pope before the election, but do I detect some genuine esteem in what she says here? It’s at least a six on the Respect-ometer. Exit question: Where does Palin rate on Hillary’s Respect-ometer, do you suppose? One? Or a total doughnut? Click the image to watch, then select “Canada AM Extended: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin” on the lefthand side.

That interviewer’s attitude was so refreshing, he was courteous and asked good questions. More of those!

promachus on December 9, 2008 at 11:08 PM

I think that’s because she’s no longer an immediate threat to The One. Wait until the next election cycle begins to near and they’ll start sharpening their knives again.

ramrocks on December 9, 2008 at 11:13 PM

I love it,Governor Sarah Palin is a true friend of Canada,
and kudo’s to CTV,he asks the questions, and allows SarahCuda
to take her sweet time in answering, and without any agenda!

And, I do like how Sarah Palin is gracious in talking about
Obama,a class act, in this day and age of vicious Liberal
politics!

canopfor on December 9, 2008 at 11:16 PM

The Canadian MSM’s main focus nowadays is the possible political crisis and change in government that may take place in Ottawa. They’re not as fanatical about taking Sarah down now; the US election is over. Give it another couple of years they’ll get back on board. Obama will see to that.

technopeasant on December 9, 2008 at 11:29 PM

, but Trig as Santa?

That was painfully cute, and I have a cold, German cyborg heart. It just melted.

Pasalubong on December 9, 2008 at 10:58 PM

Yes, Trig as Santa. A very cute Santa. And Piper looks very very pretty in her Christmas party dress.

Blake on December 9, 2008 at 11:35 PM

There is a story out there now that Todd Palin is jealous of the attention his wife is getting from being so attractive on the campaign trail. Funny this story appears the same day that Blago is taken down and Obama has a bad day. Just a coincidence, I guess!

This story? Of course it has an anonymous source. Has there ever been a politician with so many anonymously-sourced stories as Sarah Palin? If she’s such a nonentity, why are people so chicken about going on the record?

By the way, love the way she closes out the interview with the Canadian anchor – “Appreciate ya!” Is this a signature line with her?

Jim62sch on December 9, 2008 at 11:48 PM

My favorite campaign button is one with Sarah Palin in a kerchief a la the WWII housewife-turned-riveter, proclaiming, “We can do it!”

Governor Palin is an achiever. She is upbeat. And she does not suffer fools gladly.

The only thing that could be better is if Alaska would actually secede…. :)

Venusian Visitor on December 9, 2008 at 9:58 PM

Wow. If Alaska seceded, I would be up their in a heartbeat with my guns, boots, parka, and all my wealth in gold to contribute to create the new currency: the Alaska Nugget. And I’d work for the new Alaskan Treasurer, Peter Schiff.

Fedaykin all the way for the Cuda. One word from her and I’d sick’em.

Yes, I noticed that she does that with all of her interviews. It must be a signature line indeed.

technopeasant on December 9, 2008 at 11:40 PM

Complete non-story in my opinion. It’s really sad that tabloids are now making up nonsense like that. How absurd.

In her speech at the RGA last month, she had this to say about her husband:

Along the trail, it was my husband, Todd, who was my right hand. And among his many willing — winning qualities is the gift that he has of optimism and just thankfulness in all situations that he finds.

And going forward, I’m going to count on those qualities a little more, even. Because of course there was a disappointment after a loss in a national election like that. You run to win. You run the race to win.

It’s kind of relying on Todd with that optimism and the thankfulness in all situations, that I’m certainly going to be there with him along those lines.

It was clear when she said those words in her speech that she was speaking off the script and from her heart. Look at the syntax. It wasn’t scripted. It was impromptu, and you could how genuine it was.

I remember a brief clip in Matt Lauer’s interview with the Palins (at 1:25 into the video) that caught my attention and said so much visually. It was Palin, obviously just home from work, holding her baby with her husband standing next to her, and both of them were just beaming at that little baby boy as if he was the best thing in the world. The love there between all three was so obvious it took your breathe away. You can’t fake stuff like that.

And besides all of that, the sex appeal goes both ways in that marriage. They’re quite “evenly yoked” when it comes to looks. Women are clearly as enamored of Todd Palin as men are of Sarah Palin. Greta Van Susteren was such a flirt with him (in an innocent way). Take a look at this video of Greta riding on the snowmachine with Todd for example and note the smile that Sarah gives at about 3:20 into the clip.

Dennis Miller happens to think they have a great relationship and that’s what makes left-wing women hate her!

Palin talks about driving to Juneau via Canada. Be sure to read the comments – they’re a hoot!

Benny,

Give us a list of your favorite 10 books and why you like them. Maybe then we can get ‘enlightened’ like you. Then I’ll send a list of ten for you to be ‘enlightened’.

Now, get some more ice on that left elbow and get back to the basement before your female night elf gets killed in Pvs.P while you are d**king around on HA.

Move maggot.

I’m not down with the ‘Cuda’s dress
meltenn on December 9, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Ah, apparently it’s a kuspuk, which is a traditional Yupik garment (the First Dude is party Yupik I believe). Just satisfying my own curiosity there.

As far as the tabloid ‘Todd is mad that Sarah’s hot’ story: they look pretty happy in the pictures from today. And they are both ridiculously good looking. They made some beautiful kids too.

Quote from the above-linked article about the open house:

Denise Spencer flew north from Yorktown, Va., for the open house and the chance to meet Palin.

“I said, ‘OK, this is what I want for Christmas,’” she said. She’s also considering moving here.

Palin, she said, inspired her to become involved with politics again and she volunteered for the McCain-Palin ticket.

“She’s straightforward – what you see is what you get,” Spencer said.

I wonder how many people are visiting or moving to Alaska just because of Sarah Palin?

ronsfi on December 10, 2008 at 1:52 AM

haha that stuff is so ridiculous its funny. Notice the bottom ad on the site stating take the quiz “are you bi”. Yeah hardly a newsworthy website. If I was todd I would just have a smile on my face 24/7 knowing that I was the man who is with Sarah every night.

ousoonerfan15 on December 10, 2008 at 2:41 AM

A class act she is. I’m not sure if it’s just a play or she is recovering from the 08 race but she does not seemed to enthused about being in politics for along time or the presidency in 2012.can’t say that I blame her. Gov for 4 more years nice life in alaska, where u are appreciated and a place u love.

Really hope she changes her mind.

the irony of it is look at what she just did with the pipeline, how many americans know about that. More know that Obama wants to change lightbulbs and put hospital records online, and energy efficient schools….”#%#”%¤ turd. Now which one you think will have more of an impact :-)

cayman on December 10, 2008 at 2:53 AM

I know there are many liberals and trolls who patrol HA and especially any thread regarding Sarah Palin. For you folks let me list 10 reasons that you need not worry, that your man Obama is a cinch to win re-election in 2012:

1) Obama’s re-election campaign has already started; he is not going to let any grass grow under his feet; thus he will have an advantage on any stnadard-bearer the GOP puts forward; Obama will simply be better organized than his opponent

2)since 1900 8 OF 12 presidents running for re-election have won a 2nd term; the odds are in Obama’s favor

3)the MSM will be in Obama’s corner for the next 4 years providing him unqualified support and actively promoting his re-election

4)at the same time the MSM will be in 2-3 years actively seeking with their massive resources to drive a deep or permanent wedge between the moderates and conservatives in the GOP in a divide and conquer strategy paving the way for an Obama walkover; there is no way a divided Republican Party can beat Obama win

5)Obama’s charisma, the stature of the incumbent and an aura of invincibility will bolster his position and gravitas

6)the trend of more and more Hispanics voting Democratic

7)single females in huge numbers will continue to vote for Obama because of the abortion issue

8)the vast majority of the political pundit class and elites will be in Obama’s corner: they bring a lot of money, clout, and credibility with them

9)Obama again will have a huge money advantage over the GOP presidential candidate allowing him to saturate the airwaves again in the battleground states
10)the 12m or so illegal adult immigrants that Obama will make citizens will in turn favor Obama with their vote

Under these circumstances Obama cannot lose. The GOP in 2012 will be no match for the Messiah, under this scenario.

By the way I wholeheartedly support Sarah Palin but I also am a realist and know what Sarah will be up against in 2012 if she decides to run.

technopeasant on December 10, 2008 at 4:40 AM

Now for you folks in the GOP who are strong supporters of Sarah Palin let me list 10 reasons that Sarah can upset Obama or the Democrats in 2012

1)the conservatives (base)must rally around Sarah very early in the process (even before the primary season) showing Sarah’s opponents it would be futile to try to compete against her; this would allow Sarah to organize her ground forces, enhance her fundraising capabilities and unite the party under one banner

2)by downplaying her social conservative credentials and playing up her libertarian/fiscal conservative credentials

3)if the economy continues to be in the tank in 4 years

4)if the Obama administration appears to be really incompetent or unmistakably corrupt

5)Obama does not run again

6)Reagan Democrats, suburban moms and Roman Catholics including Hispanics must support Sarah’s message in greater numbers than they supported McCain’s message

7)Sarah must win more conservative voters than McCain won (20% of conservatives voted for Obama in 2008)

8)the GOP must find a way to successfully counter or repulse the daily 24/7 propaganda of the MSM, including late-night comedians, to discredit and dismiss Sarah

9)Sarah’s VP must complement her in philosophy, conviction, and competence
10)Sarah must take the fight to Obama with relentless vigor, stating clearly her unabashed belief in the traditions of America, her commitment to a strong national defense and her blueprint for creating more prosperity for Americans by allowing the free enterprise system to flourish.

Even if these 10 things could be achieved Sarah would still a clear underdog; I am under no illusion. For those Republican supporters who say I’m not ready to think about 2012 yet, I have this to say to you: “Yesterday was not soon enough to launch the 2012 GOP campaign,”

technopeasant on December 10, 2008 at 5:14 AM

Once the interview started, I was afraid we were being punk’d by Saturday Night Live. That anchor looked like Will Forte in a blonde rug. Of course, the real Palin is so much better than the Tina Fey version.

Sarah Palin is awesome. And as I’ve said before, if there were any justice in this world, she’d already be the subject of a Lifetime made-for-TV movie detailing all her awesomeness. If she were a politician on the other side of the aisle, you know it would have been done already.

Captain Scarlet on December 10, 2008 at 6:13 AM

If Governor Palin decides to step into that rat-infested sewer of presidential politics I will walk with her and work for her. But I agree that she shouldn’t wait until 2010 to start setting the pavers, or at least spreading the sand over the level earth. Let’s get some committees formed and line up some foot soldiers. If they are already out there, I will find them. I may not qualify as a general, but give me a full magazine and I can be an effective rifleman. Only one demand. Don’t hold back!

Seeing the picture of Sarah in the neck scarf (kerchief?) I had an inspiration – she should have worn a headscarf when she met with Obama! That would have been a hoot!

Sarah’s got web sites up tht wazoo now backing her and her own radio show (not endorsed by her) promoting her candidacy for 2012 and has astronomical ratings in the polls and she says ‘Merry Christmas’ not Happy Holidays to her 3300 guests at the governor’s mansion in Juneau. Merry Christmas governor-2009 will be your year!
