I (like my namesake ancestor) converted to Orthodox Christianity. The Orthodox Church is the Church that Christ established and remains in it’s unadulterated form today.

Judging by your theology and dislike of fire brimstone theology, it’s something I would suggest that you should consider looking into more..
In some parts of your theology, you seem to be approaching the Orthodox position, but (like most of us in America) you probably haven’t had much access to Orthodox theology, and you take a very liberal approach without it.

Both liberalism and conservatism regarding Scripture, (with numerous private conflicting interpretations), are the wrong approach.

The Scripture was canonized and written by the Orthodox Church and has it’s place as a centerpiece within the full body of written and unwritten Holy Tradition (Scriptural Commentaries,Saint’s lives,writing of the Saints,Divine Liturgy,Iconography etc.)…without the correct interpretations of Holy Scripture, thousands of divisions are caused, churches lose their Apostolic succession, and thousands of denominations with drastically different theologies are formed.

The real “reformation” in Christianity today is the return of whole denominations and congregations of Protestant,Catholic and Roman Catholic Christians back to the Orthodox Church en masse.

The Orthodox Church is the Greek counterpart to the Roman Catholic Church. Both were originally the same organization, and were organized according to the political system then in place, the Roman Empire. When the Roman Empire split into the Eastern Roman Empire centered around Byzantium and the Western Roman Empire centered around Rome, so did the “Church” of the day.

The claim that the Orthodox Church is the original and was founded by Jesus Christ Himself rests on the exact same foundation as the claim the Roman Catholic Church makes to that effect: that they derive from this Catholic Church that existed before the split of the Roman Empire. Each of course claims to be the true descendant of that Church. The Orthodox probably has the better claim, but that’s an outsider’s opinion.

Of course, the earliest churches were not tied into any sort of a political organization, and had no hierarchy of church leadership by location of church. The actual church leadership of the early church was the apostles, who, being human, died out after a generation. (Ergo, all the fuss and bother about the doctrine of Apostolic Succession.) The early Gentile churches looked for leadership to the early churches of Judea, but there is no indication that this was expected to be permanent. Following the leadership of the church in Rome or Byzantium has even less sanction in scripture.

The first indications of this kind of structure came into being around the time of Constantine, or about 300 A.D. Even then, the church of Rome was not considered or proclaimed to have a greater position than any other. That came about probably around 500-600 A.D.

Opinions will vary of course, and you now know mine. But without any real structural or doctrinal link between the first churches and the structure that grew up 200-500 years later, the claim to BE the Church that Jesus founded is highly questionable.

Strong evidence for the close link between the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches is the statement by StOlaf above that the scripture “has it’s (sic) place as a centerpiece within the full body of written and unwritten Holy Tradition …” This is exactly the same position as the Roman Catholic Church, as opposed to the “Sola Scriptura” of the Reformation.

Don’t worry, there’s another like about this lifestyle. They’ll find it soon. I’ll probably start catching it from on of them becasue I expressed myself over there.
