Video: “Day Without a Gay” not going according to plan

posted at 12:38 pm on December 9, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart, turns out the recession’s a Prop 8 supporter. The festivities begin tomorrow; the boss is already bracing for the biggest labor shockwave since, um, “Day Without an Illegal Immigrant.” Remember that? No?

First the Larry Craig appeal gets rejected, now this. Heart-ache. Exit question: Isn’t today “Day Without a Blogger Who Has Nothing to Post Day”? I’m pretty sure.

The truly funny part is that someone who would respond like that ISN’T some 5 year old on their parent’s computer.

MadisonConservative on December 9, 2008 at 9:06 PM

In that case maybe California could hold a referendum instead. That way Californians could vote on what laws they wanted.

aengus on December 9, 2008 at 9:03 PM

Not sure where you are going w/ that, but the CA Supreme Court is the final say on the constitutionality of laws here, and threw out the anti-gay marriage Prop. 22, and hopefully will throw out the hateful Prop. 8 as well.

Noneya on December 9, 2008 at 9:06 PM

This symbolic resolution they’re pushing through the UN will not do anything to save homosexuals from being executed in Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen – its ostensible purpose. The real purpose of this resolution is to expand homosexual rights and decrease the hold of traditional Catholic morality in Europe. – aengus

Gee, a resolution against the imprisonment and death penalty of homosexuals is symbolic? Tell that to the next homosexual who is hung from a crane in Iran.

SC.Charlie on December 9, 2008 at 9:16 PM

So you want to amend the constitution to disband the state Supreme Court? Good luck with that.

Noneya on December 9, 2008 at 9:13 PM

No. The process issue is whether the voters have a right to disagree with the C.S. Court and amend the constitution by a majority vote. If yes, then Prop. 8 is legal amendment to the Constitution. The C.S. Court would not have to disband.

You make the claim. It’s your job to back it up, not to talk out of your ass. However, since your regular discourse seems to originate from there, I’m not expecting anything. Just pointing out the common fallacy that irrational people, and utter nincompoops like you, tend to make. If I say that there’s a national conspiracy by Italians and Russians to outlaw shoelaces, I have to come up with proof. If you say there is a gay nazi agenda, you have to come up with proof.

oh please, this is laughable stupidity. the supreme court overrules the will of the people and thats the only vote that counts to gay nazis like you.

and they are appointed, they can be recalled…but they are appointed….you liar

Here’s the skinny, in case you were wondering who appointed the judges deciding today’s In re Marriage Cases case. Three of the four justices in the majority were appointed by Republican governors. Justice Ronald George, the author, was appointed by Pete Wilson. Ditto Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdergar . Justice Joyce Kennard was appointed by George Deukmajian and is the longest sitting Justice on the California Supreme Court. And Justice Carlos Moreno was appointed by Democrat Gray Davis. The three dissenters were all appointed by Republicans. Justices Ming Chin and Marvin Baxter were appointed by Pete Wilson; Justice Carol Corrigan was named by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So, what is the point of opposing a statement in opposition to the imprisonment and death penalty for homosexuals?

SC.Charlie on December 9, 2008 at 9:49 PM

To get into the legal techniques and trickery the EU uses in order to advance its agenda would take a long article, if not a book.

So let me just use an extremely oversimplified made-up example. Say a resolution came up in Congress declaring opposition to the slave trade in North Africa. Say tacked onto that Bill was a 5% pay raise for teachers.

Now anyone who opposed that Bill could be denounced by the media and their political opponents for being a supporter of slavery, even if only opposed the pay raise and were on record as opposing slavery.

In fact the practical consequence of the Bill would be the 5% pay raise effective immediately while the moral condemnation of the slave trade would have no effect whatsoever.

Noneya on December 9, 2008 at 9:59 PM

and of course the gay agenda is not merely just gay ‘marriage’ but the suppression of all opinion that they disagree with. they want to impose a gay sharia law on this country. we see it in action already in CA where a doctor was sued by a lesbian because he did not want to artificially inseminate her.

in NJ your tolerant gay nazis:

TRENTON, August 21, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In another case of a clash between Christian traditional values and the new secular sexual morality, the United Methodist Church group that owns a private campground retreat are suing the New Jersey government, saying its rights of religious freedom are being violated. The state is investigating a discrimination charge brought against the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association by a pair of lesbians who wanted to use the private retreat campground for a “civil union” ceremony.

The federal suit accuses the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights of “causing a substantial burden on, and chilling of,” the group’s “rights to unfettered religious expression, association and free exercise of religion.”

the gays prove who they are with their thuggery in CA.

DUHH we hold them accountable every time we hold a judicial election in which we can retain or recall them. that is called ACCOUNTABILITY!

One Chief Justice and six associate justices are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. The appointments are confirmed by the public at the next general election; justices also come before voters at the end of their 12-year terms. Vote “Yes” to confirm each of the following justices; vote “No” to oppose confirmation.

SC.Charlie on December 9, 2008 at 10:08 PM

I’d have to read the resolution first. (The blog entry you linked doesn’t name the resolution.) I’d have to know how it defines categories of discrimination and how this might be interpreted by the European Court of Human Rights.

We do know that a) the Vatican’s lawyers have read the resolution and found it wanting; b) the EU have gone above the European Parliament to the UN which means they want the resolution to have universal application. That is more than enough to give me pause.

by mob rule, not the legislature by 2/3 as it states in the state constitution. so the “amendment” heading to the courts will surely be thrown out, as it is unconstitutional.

Wow. I can’t believe I missed it yesterday. Two people who hate me going after each other. Awesome.

And you both retreated to your favorite lines, either grade school insults or grade school insults about another person’s faith. This was very entertaining to catch up on.

The real “reformation” in Christianity today is the return of whole denominations and congregations of Protestant,Catholic and Roman Catholic Christians back to the Orthodox Church en masse.

SaintOlaf on December 9, 2008 at 6:54 PM

Yes, I understand that you’re convinced that your theology is the only true theology. I disagree.

I do not think those in hell are tortured by God, no.

right4life on December 9, 2008 at 9:01 PM

That’s not answering the question.

Isn’t every day at Disneyland a parade of gluttony?

Noneya on December 9, 2008 at 9:27 PM

Yes, of course. So odd that I agree with you…

He’s a pentecostal. They are an emotional sect. I’ve long suspected that the whole lot of them are manic-depressives.

I (like my namesake ancestor) converted to Orthodox Christianity. The Orthodox Church is the Church that Christ established and remains in it’s unadulterated form today.

Esthier,

Judging by your theology and dislike of fire brimstone theology, it’s something I would suggest that you should consider looking into more..
In some parts of your theology, you seem to be approaching the Orthodox position, but (like most of us in America) you probably haven’t had much access to Orthodox theology, and you take a very liberal approach without it.

Both liberalism and conservatism regarding Scripture, (with numerous private conflicting interpretations), are the wrong approach.

The Scripture was canonized and written by the Orthodox Church and has it’s place as a centerpiece within the full body of written and unwritten Holy Tradition (Scriptural Commentaries,Saint’s lives, writing of the Saints,Divine Liturgy,Iconography etc.)…without the correct interpretations of Holy Scripture, thousands of divisions are caused, churches lose their Apostolic succession, and thousands of denominations with drastically different theologies are formed.

The real “reformation” in Christianity today is the return of whole denominations and congregations of Protestant,Catholic and Roman Catholic Christians back to the Orthodox Church en masse.

SaintOlaf on December 9, 2008 at 6:54 PM

The Orthodox Church is the Greek counterpart to the Roman Catholic Church. Both were originally the same organization, and were organized according to the political system then in place, the Roman Empire. When the Roman Empire split into the Eastern Roman Empire centered around Byzantium and the Western Roman Empire centered around Rome, so did the “Church” of the day.

The claim that the Orthodox Church is the original and was founded by Jesus Christ Himself rests on the exact same foundation as the claim the Roman Catholic Church makes to that effect: that they derive from this Catholic Church that existed before the split of the Roman Empire. Each of course claims to be the true descendant of that Church. The Orthodox probably has the better claim, but that’s an outsider’s opinion.

Of course, the earliest churches were not tied into any sort of a political organization, and had no hierarchy of church leadership by location of church. The actual church leadership of the early church was the apostles, who, being human, died out after a generation. (Ergo, all the fuss and bother about the doctrine of Apostolic Succession.) The early Gentile churches looked for leadership to the early churches of Judea, but there is no indication that this was expected to be permanent. Following the leadership of the church in Rome or Byzantium has even less sanction in scripture.

The first indications of this kind of structure came into being around the time of Constantine, or about 300 A.D. Even then, the church of Rome was not considered or proclaimed to have a greater position than any other. That came about probably around 500-600 A.D.

Opinions will vary of course, and you now know mine. But without any real structural or doctrinal link between the first churches and the structure that grew up 200-500 years later, the claim to BE the Church that Jesus founded is highly questionable.

Strong evidence for the close link between the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches is the statement by StOlaf above that the scripture “has it’s (sic) place as a centerpiece within the full body of written and unwritten Holy Tradition …” This is exactly the same position as the Roman Catholic Church, as opposed to the “Sola Scriptura” of the Reformation.
