Quote of the day

Reviewing his decision to implement the surge, Bush recalled the political pressures on him to retreat: “It was in this room that a prominent member of my political party said, ‘You must remove troops from Iraq because it could cost us elections if you don’t,’” the president said, gesturing around the Oval Office. “And it was in this room I looked at him and said, ‘You must not understand George W. Bush.’”

The only issue I have with President Bush is the spending policies…I also understand to receive support for the war he needed to do that.
History will treat him not only kindly, but will call him a visionary.
He is correct, Iran and Iraq would be in an arms race, and whether one or the other won, or they both crossed the finish line together, it would have been a disaster. And we would be facing that disaster right now.
As unstable as the middle east is (and has been for thousands of years), it is more stable because of him…and almost entirely him.
He walks the walk…and God bless him for fighting for the unborn…we may not see that again for awhile.

I’m damn glad the GOP got its *ass handed to them in the last 2 elections if this is the kind of nonsense the Party has come to represent.

Michael in MI on December 9, 2008 at 1:42 AM

It’s not called the GOP, it is called human nature. You will find in every party, someone who has worked their way to the top by not following the “right path” but the path to election, whatever that is.
You, sir, have no party, because like I said, every party, every organization, indeed part of the human race is made up of men who will sell their soul to stay in power…and will definitely sell you soul to stay in power.

I think you meant to respond to someone else. I agree with you….compared to other wars, Iraq was managed extremely well.

You are correct Jasper. I actually meant my comment towards “lexhamfox on December 9, 2008 at 1:04 AM”

My humble apologies.

Yeah, the spending was more than I liked. Some nessesary and alot…not.

THAT SAID….

None of us should be surprised by it. I certainly am not.
One of the things I love about ‘W’, is that he is pretty straight forward. He did exactly what he said he would. He did exactly as his GOV record proved. We all knew up front what he is all about.
As far as being a ‘visionary‘. I think your right about that.
He was right in just about everything.
Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, north Korea. He was right about the ‘axis of evil’.
Right about tax cuts helping the economy.
Right about doing something about fannie and freddie (which the dams ignored to protect their ‘afirmative action for houseing’ policy)
Correct about taking the fight to the enemy (as not having an attack in 7 years proves).
Right in finally sticking his hand in the face of the U.N, after repeatedly trying to nudge them to DO something to be relevant.

The nasty lil truth about it is….’W’ may have done more than just serve as president for 8 years. He may very well have changed the world beyond what ANY other president in history has done.
Yes…even rivaling the founding fathers themselves.
Much depends on Iraq and afganistan. Much depends on the people themselves.
We should all be wanting that to be a success.
Sadly many many dems are content to want death for them. Destruction for them.
For the sole purpose of pointing the finger at ‘W’, only to laugh.
Content are they with the killing of men women and children. The raping and torture of sons and Daughters.Out of hate for ONE man.

What do you expect from a party that looks the other way as live babies are left to die in cold dark closets.

Understand GWB??? What’s to understand??? He wakes up in the morning and reads his bible searching for some comfort and assurance that his decisions over the past 8 years won’t send him straight to hell. Of course, he doesn’t have to get but a few pages into his prized book to discover that random and indiscriminate killing is not only permitted but oftentimes rewarded. It is this pathetic mindset that sets GWB’s soul at ease and allows him to continue his good work.

dk on December 9, 2008 at 12:42 PM

Lexhamfox: If Clinton had taken care of OBL in the first place, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

conservative_in_texas on December 9, 2008 at 1:14 AM

I agree. And I think Clinton also made the mistake of not putting enough on the ground in Somalia. I do think, however, that with or without Osama we would still have AQ as a difficult adversary.

Look. I know that you are another guy/girl/inbetween that is still bent out of shape that you cant marry a goat , but please…when posting, do try and be a little more focused in on what it IS that you are actually complaining about.
I can’t tell if your whining about the death penalty , the war, or just being bigoted against Christians…or perhaps you are just wanting to hear your melodic written voice as you ‘queef’ ever so softly your juvenile, overly emotional, moronic ‘thoughts’ over the internet waves.

‘Queef’ away, youngling. ‘Queef’ away.

PS: Merry Christmas ! >:)

If there is a “pathetic mindset” around here, it is the mindset of those whose pure hatred of GWB blinds them to the truth.

You loosely throw around words like “random and indiscriminate killing” without any factual support. Perhaps you and Jack “Haditha” Murtha (who STILL has yet to apologize to our vindicated servicemen for his dead-wrong accusations of “killing in cold blood”) could be real pals.

The killing of the bad guys has been neither random nor indiscriminate. Quite the contrary – under the Bush Administration’s leadership, between January and September 2008 alone, there were 18 cross-border strikes by Predator drones into Pakistan that killed numerous al-Qaeda attack planners. An October strike killed Kalid Habib, who had been the #4 ranking member of al-Qaeda.

But of course, these are mere facts. Why should they stand in the way of another left-wing tirade against W and even the Bible itself?

OneVision on December 9, 2008 at 2:13 PM

It’s interesting that he says one of the best things about his presidency was being sworn in the second time. Because he had been so vilified for 4 years and treated like scum, but had gone out and campaigned on the very things he was blasted for, and won.

I still suspect that if he had gone out and campaigned again in 2008, he could have won again. Of course, he was ineligible to serve himself. But McCain’s campaign probably made a big mistake trying to keep him away from the political field. Rather than run from President Bush, they should have asked him to go out and campaign hard. At least then the Bush policies that were good would have had someone defending them. Instead, Obama and the media attacked them over and over again, while McCain said nothing, but still got blamed for all the criticisms leveled against Bush.

So all Obama’s criticisms of Bush that were used against McCain were never answered. No wonder McCain lost.

Ummm…. I don’t give him credit at all for being steadfast.
….
lexhamfox on December 8, 2008 at 10:12 PM

Obviously.

tom on December 9, 2008 at 5:34 PM

The alternatives were Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. and John Forbes Kerry.

Entelechy on December 8, 2008 at 10:59 PM

To be honest, foreign policy wise I doubt Al Gore and John Kerry would have done anything much different than Bush. Removing Saddam Hussein was a foreign policy goal way before President Bush. I am starting to believe it’s the domestic issues that really separate Dems and Reps.

terryannonline on December 8, 2008 at 11:07 PM

True, if you go by what they said. But I seriously doubt either meant what they said. Clinton had that same foreign policy goal, and we know what he did about it.

Says it all. You feel no need to understand, just to rant. I’m not even sure what you’re ranting about, though I get the underlying theme of “Bush EVIL! Worse than Hitler!”

OneVision on December 9, 2008 at 2:13 PM

I had heard that at least one of those Marines had filed a civil suit against Murtha. Do you know if that is the case, and if so, the status of the case? It would be sweet revenge if the Marines benefit financially from being falsely accused.

Red State State of Mind on December 9, 2008 at 5:48 PM
