Maybe in Alberta, but in Toronto they all hate America.

KillerKane on December 5, 2008 at 3:38 PM

That is because Toronto is made up of most of the Immigrants who come to Canada and are willing to believe anything the 'party that wants to give us the most for nothing'. The province of Ontario DOES NOT consist of just Toronto. Many, and I mean MANY of the people of Ontario are Conservative. The reason that the Yanks, and Alberta think we are all 'reds' is because the MSM is run out of TORONTO. It does not reflect the rest of the vast land that is Ontario. (Alberta, are you paying attention?!?)

Well put, Ed, although I would suggest that while Dion and Layton shot themselves in the leg on this one (and by extension, did so for their parties as well), Gilles Duceppe and the Bloc will come away from this with more clout than they previously had in Quebec. He wasn't going to be a direct party to this "coalition," only to keeping it in power and voting against the Conservatives. He won street cred for separatists.

Just another reason why Canadians should loathe the Libs/NDP right now.

Right on, Ed -- you nailed it! Cept, I will call the "coalition" a coup, even though as you point out what the opposition did is technically legal - this is a disgraceful act. Canadians just exited the voting booth and voted Stephen Harper their PM a little over a month ago. Only to have their vote nullified by the greed and pride of these 3 Stooges? This as a Power Grab by a few politicians no longer looking out for the People of Canada, but for themselves. It is my prayer that Canadians everywhere flood the streets in protest and oppose this coalition of the Three Stooges. It may be the only way they can turn this scam around and protect the integrity of their government. It will be interesting to follow this and see what happens. As an aside, I think Harper is a Christian and he is very pro-American. Two great reasons to support him!

News flash:

The Canadians fighting in Afganistan and their supporters are many.

And the Canadians who think “America asked for it” on 9/11 are also legion.

And. These. Are. Two. Different. Groups. Of. Canadians.

Both exist in the same nation.

Ask for "back bacon" or "peameal bacon" if you're on holiday in Canada, Akzed, if you want the real thing. (That's not like what U.S. supermarkets call "Canadian bacon".)

Mmm. Bacon.

As well he should. That is, after all, Taliban Jack Layton. Leader of the New Democrat Party, the most left wing of the main stream partys.

He wants to negotiate with the Taliban, but every time we suggest he go right ahead and head over there for talks, he has is washing his hair or waxing his stache.

One of the local MPs is from the NDP party (not my riding, thank goodness) and she was on the radio the other day defending the coalition’s actions. The gist of the argument was that we had to do something about this economic crisis and solve climate change.

Yes, she said it in the same breath.

One of the oddest beliefs of leftists is that many of their most expensive programs come with no price, and often generate more economic activity.

We certainly could dramatically lower our carbon emissions, but it would come at a dramatic cost. The notion that we can increase taxes and enact draconians regulations and earn money for business is insanity.

But then again, it may be that many leftist leaders understand this - Europe, as the most obvious example, has done essentially nothing about carbon emissions because it is too expensive.

If Harper was damaged by this, it is pretty much a flesh wound, whereas Layton has shot Dion in the groin and he is slowly bleeding to death, though no sexual organs were hit (or even present).

Makes me glad to be a Canadian :)

My mother has been asking me non stop in the past few weeks whether she should sell all her investments if this ploy were to succeed... My mother - the most apolitical person I've ever met - even she was scared by this stupid ploy. I can just imagine what the average Canadian must feel...

I hope Dion stays as head of the Liberal party. We need him to keep doing stupid sh*t to remind Canada how dumb the Liberals really are.

Agreed. Red is the colour of socialist revolution, not of conservatives.

Which is why I'm glad I'm American. At least for now.
I fear for our future.
Thank God Canada is starting to get some sense.

Many Canadians saw the ploy for what it was - nothing but a blatant attempt at a power grab and nothing to do with "managing an economic crisis" and that's why the support for Harper has gone up. Some of that increase will no doubt fade as this issue passes but if another election happens in the next little while you can bet the Conservatives will be reminding the voters of this ploy at every opportunity. It could haunt the Liberals and NDP for a long time to come.

By all means, I hope their counterparts here do the same.
