They want Bush to sign all the bailouts and give-a-ways and take responsibility for them before Obama gets in to spend it all. Republicans should be against these bail out in spite of what the lame duck might say. They should stall them out at least until Obama gets in.

Dan Rather seem to have senile dementia.

Good to see he still gets airtime because I am sure there are millions of people who care what this Epic Fail of a talking head has to say.

But, if we are going to shorten it up, lets choose the morning of December 7.

It's a date, like September 11, that ought to be firmly fixed in any President's mind as they go about the duties of their office with its overriding mandates to preserve, protect, and defend.

You are missing the need for the outgoing team to find jobs. Two and a half months to do that is a teensy bit short, I think. The holdover guys in any change of administration are in limbo -- they never know when the replacement will be located, and hence have to have a level of patriotism which includes a potential out-of-work scenario.

"Process" is making this transition easy -- process instigated by Mr. Bush. It's just one more feather in his cap.

Yeah dan, Great idea... But first

1. Find out what the frequency is for Kenneth

2. Produce a document from 1970 stating the case for this that was done using MS Word 2007 on a color laser printer.

Since Dopey Dan is being silly, I guess I can too.. Here is an idea.. I think GWB still has some of his flying skills. He should have the right to challenge obama to an aerial duel. Get a pair of vintage F-102s and hang a couple of falcons on them. They get to 20k feet with 2 miles separation and then the fights on... As I said, that makes as much sense as Dummy Dan's idiotic blathering. Winner can either take the presidency or name his successor.

Oops, the libs will say that isn't fair, after all obama never served in the military and was too busy reading Marx and Engles to have read something like the flight manual for a 102.. silly me..

The prototype Anchor Baby Dan's severe case of the Liberal mental disorder / STD known as chronic Cronkitis usually flares up the time of year when global cooling sets it. It's okay Gunga Dan. We know you caught it from the anchor's chair of your predecessor. That's better Dan, just try not to yank on the buckles at the end of your sleeves until the Prolixin kicks in.

What are you missing, AP?

Quite a lot. Aside from allowing time for disputed vote counts from state to state (hence the delayed electoral college vote), it's not just a matter of making cabinet picks. Its filling hundreds of sub-cabinet level positions - which requires vetting mountains of resumes (some of which would certainly never be submitted till the outcome of the election is actually known) as well as interviews and security vetting of any potential hires. Anyone who comes from outside DC, will have to make make housing and moving arrangements, along with enrolling children in schools, etc.

That's all pretty much before you even begin to start bringing people up to speed with intel and departmental briefings, and start working up policy as a team. And of course, there's an inauguration to arrange -- which is probably the small potatoes part.

If we're going to truncate anything, let's take time off the front end of the campaign season. Please!

Given the problems which can occur I think the present timetable is sound. We need to allow time for for a re-count, and to do thorough vetting and security checks for cabinet member selections. Rushing things may appeal to some, but if this process had been speeded up much, John Edwards might have been the vice presidential candidate. Of course, that could have been a feature, not a bug, when his infidelity problem finally came out in the British press and the tabloids here.

Amazing the 'changes' that need to be made when the in-coming president is a Democrat. Wonder what the feeling would be if it were a Republican replacing a Democrat. Bet that would be 'different'. Nuance.

Given the media's love for this particular president-elect, I'm really surprised Rather didn't recommend moving Inauguration Day up to Dec. 25.

On the other hand, back in 1980, with double-digit inflation, unemployment over eight percent and the hostages entering their second year of captivity in Iran, the only person Dan really was itching to have move up their retirement date to give the American public some bold, fresh leadership was Walter Cronkite.
