Also worth pointing out….violence in Afghanistan is much more cyclical than in Iraq because the weather makes vast swaths of Eastern Afghanistan, including the Pakistani border, impossible for ground-based travel. As snows block passes and weather becomes bone chilling, especially at night, combat activity draws to a near halt in much of the country. Expect that low number in Afghanistan to continue through the Winter. It’s freakin’ cold here.

It took longer and cost more than it should've but thankfully conditions on the ground more and more favor withdrawal under peaceful and I dare say victorious conditions.
