Uncle Wackadoodle sends a warning

posted at 12:44 pm on November 25, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Jeremiah Wright apparently has no intention of going away quietly.  The former pastor of president-elect Barack Obama tells the Chicago Tribune about the hurt feelings from the presidential campaign and how his former congregant didn’t even bother to inform him personally about being tossed under the bus.  Wright warns Obama that he won’t cut him any slack, either:

Watching the election returns on TV—Wright was apparently not invited to the Grant Park rally—was somewhat bittersweet, he told Sirius XM Radio host Mark Thompson.

“It was like a mixed bag of being proud of him and being blessed to have lived to see something my parents would never have believed was going to happen while at the same time having been put up as the whipping boy by the media to be the weapon of mass destruction to destroy his candidacy,” he said.

Though he hopes to talk with Obama again once he leaves office, he also said he won’t hold back in criticizing Obama’s administration.

“I’ve already told . . . Obama: On Nov. 5, I’m coming after you,” he said. “It’s not you the person . . . it’s the policies of this country. And as long as you are presiding over policies that grind God’s people into the earth, I’m coming after you.["]

He didn’t get invited to Grant Park?  Wasn’t that an open event?  Apparently, Wright needs the gilt-edged invitation.  It’s hard to blame him for that, though, considering how he discovered he’d gotten the boot from his spot on the Obama campaign.  He saw the report on TV during a Caribbean cruise, rather than hearing from Team Obama.

Wright professed to developing a sense of humor about the press he received during the campaign, including adopting the “wackadoodle” label applied to him by a New York Times columnist.  I guess we can look forward to lots of “garlic nose” jokes and demonstrations of high-school marching band routines over the next four years.

Obama may actually welcome attacks from Wright over the next four years.  He needs to get as much distance from his former preacher as possible, and if Wright wants to carry that mileage, that should suit Obama just fine.  It will make Obama appear less leftist and more mainstream to have Uncle Wackadoodle performing his routines from the sidelines.

This is planned. I don’t buy any of it. Early in Obama’s campaign, Wright admitted that at some point Obama would have to distance himself from him. This is just following through with that.

Well, Barry’s administration is turning out to be a saga. I look forward to more episodes of Hate Church: http://hotair.com/archives/2008/06/04/wright-still-in-charge-at-trinity-even-though-he-was-supposed-to-retire-june-1/ and Washington Hillbillies (starring Billy Jeff and Hillary).

Illinidiva on November 25, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Like everything else the big-eared goblin has done, his membership in that church was a political calculation. So…throwing Wright under the bus was not given a second thought when Oblammo decided he was a political liability. He learned from the master (Billy Jeff). He simply refined the technique while masking his Marxist ideology with the aid of the MSM. The problem Wright has is that, in his own bloated sense of self-importance, he can’t see that simple fact.

SKYFOX on November 25, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Apparently you forgot that they told the “stars” to stay home because there was only room for one “star”. I think Wright thought he was included in the stay at home group.

katablog.com on November 25, 2008 at 12:55 PM

I call BS. Obama wants Wright to be his enemy. Takes it away as an issue in 4 years. Wright is the kind of guy who’s ego would cause him to do this anyways, but I sense something else is at play.

The man lives in a multi-million dollar mansion funded from the offering plate of his racist congregation. He has some nerve talking about God’s people being ground up when he so clearly is not walking in Christ’s footsteps.

All we have to do is say, “And Obama sat in THIS GUY’s CHURCH for 20 years…”

Every time UW speaks up, the right needs to tie Obama’s 20 years of church going with him to whatever he’s saying.

I see that Mr. Devout Christian Guy Who Doesn’t Object When People Call Him Jesus is staying away from churches (now that’s he’s got the job) and is using his Sunday mornings for … working out at a gym.

This reminds me of a scripture in Paul’s first letter to Timothy (4:7,8):

Train yourself for devotion, for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future.

But, then again, maybe he knows about this passage, and just ignores it. After all, it is from the Apostle Paul, who also authored that “obscure passage in Romans.”

Not true, warbaby.

Presuming that you are NOT being sarcastic, it may be the way you perceive the word “cracker” as an individual, but that view is not universally shared. If that were the case, the minor league baseball team in Atlanta wouldn’t have been known for 64 years (1901-1965) as the “Atlanta Crackers” and the city’s Negro League team wouldn’t have been called the “Atlanta Black Crackers.”

Draper’s wife, while lovely, is (behind closed doors) independent and often hot-tempered and negative. So is Obama’s wife.

Draper’s personal history is shrouded in mystery to most people in his life by his own design. The same is true of Obama.

Draper is shady about what’s really on his birth certificate. So is Obama.

Draper lives in fear of his past coming back to haunt him. So does Obama.

Draper has helped other people keep their dirty secrets, and they, in turn, have covered for him. The same is true of Obama.

Draper’s life is tied up in hiding his true identity. The same is true of Obama.

Draper’s lifestyle is so dependent on a constant string of lies and deception, he places himself in danger of ruin whenever he tells the truth. The same is true of Obama.

Entelechy on November 25, 2008 at 2:26 PM

I’m going to cut Barack Obama some slack on this one. I do think that he “got religion” from Michelle and that the Rev. Wright was Michelle’s choice for preacher. His words are consistent with hers up until late in the election.

I think Michelle has learned propriety as a part of this whole thing, and Barack hadn’t cut loose from Wright due to the family ties, until it became obvious that Mr. Wright’s message was divisive to the point of losing Obama potential votes. I’m thinking further that both Barack and Michelle have analysed Jeremiah’s message, and figured out where it was going and that place isn’t where they want either themselves or their children to be. After all, they can’t send their kids to Sidwell and follow fully Mr. Wrights message too.

Now that Mr. Obama has abandoned Mr. Wright, and hasn’t returned immediately post election, as both Wright and I expected he would, I’m willing to give Mr. Obama the benefit of the doubt with respect to this.

I still think the “cargo cult” thing about Obama is correct, but I’m also hoping I’ve misjudged Obama severely. We shall see after he takes the helm.

What Mr. Wright wants are those 40 acres and a mule, and I don’t think he understands that Barack intends to give them to him as economic policy balanced on the backs of the “rich”. But it won’t happen explicitly as reparations, as Mr. Wright wants.

unclesmrgol on November 25, 2008 at 2:29 PM

It’s hard to blame him for that, though, considering how he discovered he’d gotten the boot from his spot on the Obama campaign. He saw the report on TV during a Caribbean cruise, rather than hearing from Team Obama.

Hey, hey, wait a minute! Didn’t Wright, in his “Audacity of Hope” sermon that inspired the title of Baracko Marx’s 2nd memoir, make reference to …

“[T]his world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks’ greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere … That’s the world! On which hope sits!”
