Shallow, no. Lazy and stupid, yes.

jimmy the notable on November 25, 2008 at 7:49 PM

When I say shallow, I mean his stream or pool of people he can pull from is shallow. He has so little time spent in office he doesn't have a group of experienced people to draw from.
I don't know anything about him personally, so I just remark on his lack of depth as a leader...it is shallow.
We are saying the same thing...although I doubt he is "lazy" and he certainly is not stupid...foolish and politically naive maybe, but not stupid.

Bwahahahahaha!!!! We lost because we nominated a democrat lite instead of a real conservative. McCain's disgust for conservative principles at CPAC last year was the capstone of his political attitude toward conservatives. His basic political philosophy can be determined by the legislation he supports. CFR, Shamnesty, etc. His days as a voice in the republican party are drawing to a end. Good riddance to bad trash.

Obama doesn't know diddly about foreign affairs or managing armies....so he'll let relative success and Bill Gates reign overseas. Good news.
Bad news: Obama doesn't know diddly about managing our economy successfully and he's going to BLANK with us here. Everyone don't spend squat over the Holidays...hang on to everything you've got including your kids and head for the storm cellars January 20, 2009.

csdeven:

McCain is not a traitor to conservatism, but when I read your post it is obvious how Republicans lost the election this year, they were too busy trashing each other to bother supporting each other and defeating the Democrat.

I wonder if there is way more going with Iran than we know about. It seems to me that after those CIA briefings we saw a shift from Obama. Makes me wonder.

I'm not going to let ObaMcCarthy and EmanuelBergen lull me into complacency with the rhetorical moderation. I figure that this is just a way to put the RINO's at ease and get them in a good mood so he can drag out McCain and other traitors to conservatism to lead the charge to enact his Marxist agenda.

2. Jones, like Obama wants to end the US nuc umbrella for Europe. He spoke often about it while wearing his EUCOM hat, although he wouldn’t bring it up with NATO.
Good. We can’t afford to be their daddies any more. They have had 60 years to rebuild after WW II. Time for them to step up.

Only if you want nuclear proliferation to spread and NATO to fall apart- the Germans could probably build a bomb in a year or so. Ukraine probably a few years later. Plus, those socialist countries will never pony up for conventional forces. Watch Russia start to run wild if Obama has his way.

“The nomination of Mr Gates and General Jones will anger the anti-war wing of the Democratic party. They will quickly have to come terms with the fact that Mr Obama appears intent on governing as a muscular foreign policy realist.”

Well yeah the deal with the Iraqi government pretty much ends Iraq and Obama wanted to concentrate on Afghanistan anyway. I don't think this represents some sort back track. It is pretty much what he campaigned on and now with the success of the surge it is the Bush policy too. Everyone should be happy.

Well it will sure be cutesy on the nightly news when Republican Gates, with Obama’s hand up his back, mouthing the common sense of defense cutbacks and base closings.

Limerick on November 25, 2008 at 10:10 PM

There actually are lots of bases that still could be closed without harming the military. There's no reason the Naval War College has to be in Newport, RI. That's amazingly expensive real estate that costs an arm and a leg to heat...and students have to live in horrible neighborhoods because military pay isn't up to Newport prices.

Hanscom AFB in Boston--same same. Los Angeles AFB. Everything at Minot AFB could be moved down to Grand Forks, which is a hell of a lot nicer place to live anyway.

Canon AFB in New Mexico is another armpit...those assets could move elsewhere and no AF members would mind. Send everybody to Dyess (Abilene, TX) or Luke (outside Phoenix, AZ) or Creech (northwest of Las Vegas).

Three points on Jones:

1. While SACEUR and EUCOM Commander, the NATO ministers LOVED him. He worked tirelessly to keep NATO together through some rough times with the Bush admin.

2. Jones, like Obama wants to end the US nuc umbrella for Europe. He spoke often about it while wearing his EUCOM hat, although he wouldn't bring it up with NATO.

3. Jones has most recently been Bush's Israel-Palestine Security Coordinator, with little success.

How this will work out, if Obama follows through with his promises to drawdown nucs, kill missile defense and divide Jerusalem, will be really interesting. Jones brings some sense of stability, but his policies align closer to Obama than Bush.

a hack, if you will. Hillary, though her ass is indeed large, has actual working relationships with the senate foreign relations leadership…as well as having been there with Bill while he did the rounds internationally. You’ve got to do alot better than “having a fat ass” to make a reasoned argument, you idiot.

You are full of yourself. Lard A** has no foreign relations experience at all! You actually think Lard A** was with Bill when he was international? You are full of crap on that. I have a friend, personal friend. Hillary did other things when they were together in other Countries. She knows nothing on Foreign Affairs what so ever. Is not her Lard A**. She is a nit wit.

Mad is only the first round. We have handed the security of this country and most of the decent world to a man who has demonstrated a calculated detachment from the principles of freedom and independence. Hillary as S.O.S. is ridiculous, absolutely no relative experience or knowledge (Obama panders to women and Hillary is such a power whore she can not refuse) Gates is their to be sacrificed when the shit hits the fan (blame Bush) Jim Jones, well color me surprised that Obama actually picked someone who has worn the uniform for a national security position. Obama et. al. is a recipe for disaster, lets hope the conflict occurs early before The One guts the defense department for ghetto mortgages!

Yep, the question is how much damage will Obama do? Carter's policies are still paying dividens for our enemies and Obama is left of jimah. Armed revolt is looking better everyday......

I understand what you're saying, and my faith my turn out to bite me in the ass...but it is what it is. The only "professional" the democrats had (being out of power for as long as they were) was Holbrooke. There simply was no other choice. If there had been, then things would be different. But you're wishing for something that never was man.
