Finally: Palin to meet Obama in Philadelphia

posted at 7:52 pm on November 25, 2008 by Allahpundit

Hope and change? He did forgive Lieberman — although Lieberman never accused him of palling around with terrorists.

Which, of course, he did.

The governor is planning a trip to Georgia to campaign on behalf of Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss early next week on her way to Philadelphia to meet with her old foe, President-elect Barack Obama.

Obama is meeting with governors of both parties in Philadelphia to talk about the ailing economy. It’s not clear how many governors are going to attend the Obama event, which the National Governors Association helped put together.

“I don’t know if she has a one-on-one with (Obama),” said Palin spokesman Bill McAllister. “It may be, given that they were both involved in the national campaign.” McAllister said Palin will be in Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday, and the state will pay for it. He said the Chambliss campaign will pay for Palin’s side trip to Georgia.

Surely The One wouldn’t hold a grudge by refusing to meet with her personally, would he? Well, according to Joementum, he tried calling Obama after the election to congratulate him and was told he was busy — and as of last Sunday, hadn’t received a callback since. Hmmm.

I’m not giving you a damn thing, go get it yourself, since you are sooo superior to anyone who might like what they have seen in the REAL Sarah Palin, and the actual record of success she has built in state government. Funny how quickly people have forgotten about our energy crisis –you know, our dangerous dependency on foreign sources of oil? I’ve been hearing leftists cry for years about “no war for oil”. Well, we kinda need to have a domestic energy policy if we don’t want to continue “wars for oil.” Palin is the governor of a huge energy producing state that also is the home of all the resources we will need to develop the non-renewable sources of energy (wind, geothermal, etc.). She is an recognized leader and expert on energy issues. Gee, I can’t think why Obama would want to meet her…

he walks a fine line as governor of Alaska. She wants the feds to open up ANWR — though it’s not likely that BHO will do that. I’m not sure if she needs to work with the federal government on her natural gas pipeline, but if she does than she will want to play nice with BHO. That’s politics.

ramrocks on November 25, 2008 at 8:18 PM

ANWR is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. They can’t drill where they have leases, either, according to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. A major drilling effort in the Beaufort Sea was blocked by a ruling that federal officials failed to properly address environmental concerns when they granted permission to Shell Oil to drill there.

Sarah Palin saw this coming before she was officially on the GOP ticket. In a July interview, she said, “There are even bigger sources of crude than ANWR, such as offshore areas like the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea.”

The Alaskan Outer Continental Shelf holds 26.6 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas, according to recent Minerals Management Service estimates. Most of that is in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas.

I don’t think this latest assault on energy independence from the Dems is any accident. Obama said he would bankrupt coal with crushing taxes, and oil is another obvious target. The Dems are fully aware this will make energy prices skyrocket, and they are probably being lobbied forcefully. This would be the most logical reason why Sarah Palin continues to be a media target even after the election, whether she is everything they say or not.

chunderroad on November 25, 2008 at 9:23 PM

You might as well just call every big city politician a “thug”. Intellectually lazy analysis. If “holding a grudge” is allowing Lieberman to keep his committee slots and reaching out to McCain following the election, then we’re probably in pretty good shape. Obama may be a “Chicago thug”, but he’s smart and he’s a pragmatist. If Palin can help him get done what he wants to get done, he’ll work with her. Most of you don’t get Obama and have wildly underestimated him.

ernesto on November 25, 2008 at 9:22 PM

Running the budget is like being an accountant, and it’s not that difficult. The Dems still continue to deny reality (raise taxes during a recession and increase spending and expand entitlements… ok!) or continuously screw it up. Avoiding corruption is too much for them. There must be some way to tweak the system where everyone gets money… just ask Hillary Clinton. The genius of Sarah Palin is that she is proof that conservative government works.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Just do what common sense dictates, follow the rules, look out for the people who voted you into office, and you will have record approval ratings. Your budget will stay in the black.

About Governor Sarah Palin

In office since December 2006, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been a strong advocate of increasing oil and gas production from domestic resources. She recently urged members of Congress to enact legislation that would allow development in a small portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, assuring them it would be conducted in a responsible and environmentally safe manner.

Governor Palin is also chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She also serves as vice chair of the National Governors Association Natural Resources Committee.

Hmmmm….lookie there, Sarah Palin actually IS an energy expert who knows what the hell she is talking about! You don’t get positions like that being nothing but a bible thumping MILF pin-up girl, idiots.

That’s from one of the links in the above post by

Governors can individually and collectively have very good ideas on how to run things and save money. You belittle the President-Elect when you denigrate his meeting with any governor. If you are so sure of his superior intellect I would think you not cast aspersions on a meeting at a governors event that he apparently instigated.

Again, anyone can say that…it doesnt make you an expert. Just like putting away windfall money for lean times doesnt make you a management expert. You can throw out names like “petty little man” but it doesnt change the fact you’re elevating at best average, expected behavior to the point that you consider her an expert. You know who an energy expert is? Whoever engineered that pipeline she just got planned out. She’s a capable, if mediocre, governor of a small, small state with a big, big, windfall. Anyone with government experience will tell you that makes the job ALOT easier.

Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaska’s Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.

During her first legislative session, Governor Palin’s administration passed two major pieces of legislation – an overhaul of the state’s ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline.

Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee.

She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska’s communities.

Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children – Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Through Todd’s Yup’ik grandmother, Alaska’s Native heritage plays an important role in their family. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007.

Prior to taking office, Palin served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the state. She was active in her family’s pursuits – including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons.

Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoys hunting, fishing, Alaska history, and all that Alaska’s great outdoors has to offer.

Hey, none of that matters! She’s an empty headed bimbo fundamentalist MILF pinup whore! Wow, I’m soooo clever and witty!

What about those who voted for Obama hoping he’d do exactly what he’s doing right now. Appointing centrists with a pragmatic approach? I know thats exactly what i was hoping for.

ernesto on November 25, 2008

Sure ok you weren’t duped.

But the millions who got him were…you and I know that…he is as political as anyone and he fooled you and your brethren . Interesting you don’t see it. Take the blinders off. You were played like a violin.

Listen, y’all, Kos is running a special on the Obama Presidential Plate Collection. You guys need to go over and check that out.

Plus you have to admit the troll whining about the possibility of his meeting with, what did he call her, “the mayor of Wisilla” is a little strange.

Cindy Munford on November 25, 2008 at 9:45 PM

It’s strange in that context because it demeans Palin’s actual job. Like it or not, the Palin-haters (including all the McCain traitors) need to understand that she’s one of 50 state CEOs or 57 if we go with the O-bomic math. There will be a “relationship” between the incoming administration and the state of Alaska. And that state has oil so Obama can’t do what Nixon did when he decided to pull out the Navy from Rhode Island because it went for McGovern.

Saltysam on November 25, 2008 at 9:57 PM

The difference between the Left and the Right can be summed up quite simply.
The left thinks that Nov. 4 was the big game and that they were betting on their team, sort of picking the Nat’l Champ.
The Right knows that on Nov. 4 we were hiring a new head coach and that we are all on the same team, The United States of America. We know that we are stuck with a coach with no previous experience at any level. We preferred to have someone with some experience at any level but came up short. We only hope that there is a franchise around the next time the Head Coaches position opens up. And save all of your juvenile cheerleader jokes too trolls.

Now take a Jindal, on the other hand, who’s got big urban centers and budget issues and healthcare nightmares to manage…THATS expertise.

You spent most of your post mocking Palin for speaking in platitudes thus not making her a true expert while citing Bobby Jindal, one of the most repetitive interviewees today, as having expertise in a number of areas. I’m a big fan of both, but that’s absurd.

V15J on November 25, 2008 at 9:58 PM

The facts remain…independent of their speaking styles…Jindal’s plate as governor of Louisiana is chock full of serious issues that Palin never has to worry about. Tough issues that make the governor’s job one of the hardest in the world. Palin doesn’t have crises to deal with…outside of meth and rape statistics. Jindal has one of the unhealthiest populations, still reeling from katrina, with large poor urban centers that need day to day attention. Jindal is in the thick of it now earning scars while Palin coasted in the easiest statehouse in the country. Jindal’s the expert on governance…Palin is simply an operator…someone who knew well enough to budget properly (no small feat but no heroic victory either)…i stand by my statement

My friend, law review articles are submitted by staff members, not editors. And your whining about affirmative action is amusing in light of the fact that President-elect Obama’s race was not identified on his application for admission to HLS.

Nice try though — only two factual errors in a dozen words.

benny shakar on November 25, 2008 at 10:02 PM

The Jihadi-oil lobby in America has decades of influence in our government, and it has long arms into the system, and it has powerful political allies. It knows when Americans are messing up their own system, and it knows very well how to push them over the cliff, into the abyss of economic calamity.

OPEC has long been in bed with our CIA, who has an undeniable grip on our media and our elections. Maybe I sound a bit conspiratorial, but superstition is a powerful weapon for the elite, as Bertrand Russell pointed out. Oil is believed to be the root of all evil for a world that believes in little else. People go deaf dumb and blind at its mere mention.

To the people who control this resource, though, they have no prejudice that clouds their perception of reality, but rather steely pragmatism. America was punished for daring to change the status quo in the Arab and Muslim world to the advantage of the weakest and the suppressed: Shia and Kurds in Iraq, Syrian reformers, Lebanese civil society, Africans in Darfur, Iranian women and students, artists and liberals across the Arabian Peninsula. In return, the U.S was submitted to economic destabilization, steady, gradual and by small doses. If a world economic crisis is needed to remove the US democratization efforts from the region and to end its post 9/11 campaigns, the end justifies the means.

I really think Sarah Palin could be a revolutionary figure for the United States – as a woman and as a leader in energy policy. She obviously poses a threat to the entrenched interests that currently dominate our politics. Getting the OPEC cartel out of our government could be America’s most dramatic war of independence since 1776.

In two years she negotiated a natural gas pipeline that was stalled for 30 years. Get that? 30 years and no one could get that pipeline. She did it.

In her own words:

For the next three decades, there had been talk of building another pipeline to transport cleaner, greener natural gas down to the Lower 48. But that’s all it ever amounted to — talk. And one of the main obstacles was big oil itself — ExxonMobil and other companies.

They should have been competing to invest in a new means of delivering their product to market. Instead, they wanted a higher price than fair competition would yield. They were holding out for more billions of dollars — in public money. No one in good conscience could pay them what they wanted to build that pipeline. And that’s how we found things when I became governor: No progress, no pipeline, no gas revenue for Alaska, no added energy security for America.

So we introduced the big oil companies and their lobbyists to a concept some of them had forgotten — free-market competition. They had a monopoly on power and resources, and we broke it.

The result is, finally, progress on the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history — a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. When the last section is laid and its valves are opened, that pipeline will lead America one step farther away from reliance on foreign energy. That pipeline will be a lifeline — freeing us from debt, dependence, and the influence of foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.

Don’t believe her? Try this article from Byron York from National Review.

I seriously believe that you are sexist because if she were a man you would not be dismissing her impressive accomplishments.

I think attending this meeting is a good idea. One of his best so far. When a man starts running for President after only 143 days from entering the Senate it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that his reelection campaign starts January 22, 2009. Curiously, once elected, Obama contributed not one signed word to the HLR or any other law journal. As Matthew Franck has pointed out in National Review Online, “A search of the HeinOnline database of law journals turns up exactly nothing credited to Obama in any law review anywhere at any time.”

If anything, it makes you an expert on dealmaking…not energy. Dealmaking experts are good to have, but they’re a dime a dozen in washington.
