“Garbage In, Garbage Out” doesn’t even BEGIN to describe the cluster-f*ck of an excuse for scientific theory that Global Warming has become.

I once cornered a Global Warming “researcher” back in college – asking him how in the heck he could possibly know how much C02 the biosphere was capable of absorbing. And he jabbered something about how there wasn’t enough selenium in the ocean to support the kinds of organisms that absorb CO2.

Selenium? So this (take my word for it) scatter-brained feeb had input THE ENTIRE PLANET EARTH into his computer model, and it spit out this result: “Not enough selinium in oceans; ergo, world will end in 20-200 years.”

I didn’t bother following that up any further, because I knew that within a month the model will be scrapped again and replaced by another — no doubt tweaked until it shows that that some other obscure elemental shortage is going to doom us all.

And, somehow, they all have the exact same “20-200 year” time range that every doomsayer worth his salt has always used to cover his tracks: a minimum long enough so that no one will ever remember what I said, let alone be able to prove me wrong; and a maximum short enough that you can still kind of picture the ancestors you’ll be murdering if you don’t pay me money RIGHT NOW.

I keep wondering, why are the computer models for the Earth’s climate, decades into the future, taken seriously by anyone when I don’t think any of the major econometric models predicted anything close to the current financial crisis?

It is all a big joke.

Some months ago, it came out that climate researchers had cobbled together a model which showed that there would be 10-year pause in Global Warming, due to somedamnthing.

That’s the way junk science works: they can’t PROVE their theory prospectively, they can only RATIONALIZE it after the fact.

You give me a big pile of data (and a bigger pile of money) and I’ll show you a vaguely chicken-shaped hole in the Ozone Layer above Toledo, Ohio. And what’s more, I’ll show you how it’s insidiously becoming ever more chicken-shaped over time.

What I can’t do is make a PREDICTION about the future, or specify a testable hypothesis that someone else can use to prove OR DISPROVE my theory using a different data set, or even just a different set of interval cut-off points. ‘Cause if I tried that, my little “Global Chickening Theory” would fall apart faster than a Teflon-coated house of cards.

I hope that mountain property isn’t more than about 20 feet above current sea level, since that’s about the maximum worst-case prediction over the next hundred years.

Any warming by CO2 is limited and past the point where any further increase will make a difference.

Before the aforementioned heliocentric view of the ‘verse (embarrassingly belatedly) took hold, a ‘theory’ emerged to explain the apparent retrograde movement of heavenly bodies (i.e., planets) by making reference to “epicycles.” These were posited as circular loops which these bodies executed in their circular journey around the earth (it was important that they be perfect circles, as they were expressions of the perfect Divine creation).

We must be very careful that reason not be similarly co-opted in the service of dogma with regard to Mother Earth’s intemperate cycles.

The only problem is that the next generation is still watching Al Gore’s movie in the classroom.

That translates to million of Enviromarxists 10 years from now.

In ten years the “Inconvenient Truth” movie will be the Reefer Madness of its time.

Now is the time to get some redistribution of wealth going. Bet a liberal $10k that it will be cooler in five years than it is today. How can they say no? If enough people do it. . .

There’s a whole lot of people, industries, institutions, pols etc. that have bet their careers on this.

And they see their time has come. Time for the green revolution.

The damage enviros have done is already huge. Where would this country be if we have more oil, more nuke?

You can’t reason someone out of an opinion that they didn’t reason themselves into. They will fight tooth and nail against reason, using smears, name-calling, lies and anything else that will get them their goal.

Here’s a new story about the rapidly bursting bubble that is the man-made global warming schtick….

“Consensus” is not how science works.

The late, deeply lamented Michael Crichton wrote most eloquently on this matter (cf here [.pdf]).

Appeals to consensus are rhetorical/political phenomena, and as such have NO PLACE in any inquiry that purports to be scientific in nature.

The theologically derived consensus that the Earth revolved around the Sun constituted no more accurate an answer to the questions which observers put to the universe than does the economic determinism which undergirds the “science” on the matter of global warming.

For those who don’t toss this down the same memory hole as Global Cooling, this will be remembered as a pathetically silly moment in the history of human scientific thought.

and any deviation from the ‘consensus’ is heresy, and the heretics must be purged and silenced from ‘science’
