We lost our naming deal here in Jacksonville, we reverted to “Jacksonville Municipal Statium” from “Alltel stadium”
Us and Lambeu are the only non corporate stadiums in the NFL.

I like it, I think we should name it after a City Father or Andrew Jackson, ETC.

Look what happened to poor Joe Robbie in Miami, he pratically built that stadium, the least they could do was keep his name on it.

There is also that one that honors the men and women who have served this nation that also houses the team (along with the Cardinals) that founded the NFL: Soldier Field, Chicago. ;)

The only non-corporate baseball stadiums I know of are of course Yankee Stadium and Fenway. Let me say if Yankee Stadium does go corporate I AM THROUGH WITH SPORTS!

As a die-hard Mets fan, I still firmly believe they should have just named the new stadium “Jackie Robinson Field” and be done with it. …

Well, I’m only a casual Mets fan, but I’d rather name it for Gil Hodges. If they hadn’t named the Interborough Parkway after Jackie, I’d suggest naming Northern Boulevard after him. Maybe it would still work. Or name the station on the #7 line after him.

But Gil was a Met, and he deserves the stadium name.

(Yes, I know they named the Marine Parkway Bridge after Hodges, but most people still call it by its old name. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Triborough Bridge now that it’s been renamed.)

Bailout Stadium
Boy Toy (for Barney) Stadium
Earmark Stadium
Lobbyist Stadium
Intern Stadium
I am sure there are more…

There was a study done last year i think
where they compared the performance of teams and entire coutries to just 2 things
1. If they had a sports stadium named after them
2. If they had a huge tower as a symbol of pride.

in both cases over half who had a stadium named after them
went bankrupt within 3 years.

Similar resuls for the countries with ever increasing taller than yours towers. In each case the countries that had these or were planning these their entire economies suffered greatly.

I know one thing.
If i see any company with a sports stadium named after them
I will not invest in it for i know there is over a 50% chance they will go under..

My thinking exactly! You could have Miami’s Obama Worship Center, New York’s Obama Worship Center, Seattle’s Obama Worship Center, etc. Then we could combine worship with sports. Two birds with one stone.

I remember the Core States Center becoming the First Union Center, and then the Wachovia Center. First Union bought Core States and later Wachovia, and decided to use the Wachovia name. Since Wells Fargo has recently bought Wachovia, thus allowing it to avoid any federal bailout, perhaps Philadelphia will soon see the Wells Fargo Center.

As a die-hard Mets fan, I still firmly believe they should have just named the new stadium “Jackie Robinson Field” and be done with it. There was a lot of talk here in NYC about perhaps having another “Enron Field” disaster.

Jackie Robinson never played for the Mets. It amazes me that Gil Hodges Stadium is not being considered.

PC revisionism trumps logic I guess.

BTW Jetboy – as a die hard Mets fan you have suffered greatly. My condolences.

As a taxpayer, I am disgusted at the thought of forcibly sibsuduzing the Wilpon family and their crappy on-field product…this is the kopi luwak’ed cherry on top of the turd sundae that is this Paulson bailout scheme.
