Video: “Thank you, Sarah Palin”

A lovely sentiment. Any reason why there’s no companion clip for McCain? He did okay advocating conservative values at Saddleback, as I recall; his son also embodies the greatness of America through service, as of course does Maverick himself; and he bore up well enough amid various media smears, including multiple NYT hit pieces on him and his wife and the incessant shrieking about phony cross stories from the danker corners of the Atlantic. Why limit this thanks to one-half of the ticket?

Cuz Sarah Palin is the future and JSM is the past…
Gohawgs on November 24, 2008 at 7:41 PM
Make a video then.
Seriously though, if Palin inspired people is lame to thank other people along with her just to be PC.

Because we wanted a real conservative to run for president, and it looked as though we’d have to settle for McCain. He should be thanking Sarah too, for doing as well as he did.
Wish I was in that commercial.
manwithblackhat on November 24, 2008 at 7:44 PM
Exactly right, Gohawgs. And, it was Sarah Palin who energized the base that John McCain alienated time after time.
eucher on November 24, 2008 at 7:44 PM
John McCain should feel good about this. After all, he made it possible for her to have a national audience.
Dee2008 on November 24, 2008 at 7:44 PM
Gov. Palin is a great woman and a great American. She and her family represent the very best of America. I really hope she runs in 2012.

Why not thank McCain? I think it’s because when you come right down to it, McCain felt honored to lose to the first black president and hence he has already gotten his reward.
PackerBronco on November 24, 2008 at 7:55 PM
Pretty lame, but hey, they appear to mean it.
Why no thanks to McCain? That video should come from Obama supporters. He did far more for them than for conservatives.
Sugar Land on November 24, 2008 at 7:56 PM
She`s better off proclaiming Alaska an independent nation and naming herself Queen Palin the first at this point.
ThePrez on November 24, 2008 at 7:59 PM
I think it’s pretty clear in the video why there is no tribute to John McCain.
He is an honorable man for his service but this tribute is about conservatives honoring a conservative.
John McCain may have his own tribute video someday but it will not be by conservatives.
Moderates, Liberals, Reagan democrats, liberal rebublicans, partisan lovers, ailes jumpers, John’s here, he’s waiting, make him a tribute.
But Sarah deserves this and more as far as I’m concerned.
katy on November 24, 2008 at 7:59 PM
I think the reason is obvious.

Lynn2008 on November 24, 2008 at 8:06 PM
Why limit this thanks to one-half of the ticket?
McCain has been thanked thousands of time for what he did for his country. If you think he deserves another several thousand thanks for it, I won’t argue with you.
As for what he did for his party, he deserves a swift kick in the ass. If you say he deserves another several thousand, I not only won’t argue with you, I will patiently stand in line for my turn!
drunyan8315 on November 24, 2008 at 8:07 PM
Because only half of the ticket was conservative?

Sarah Palin inspired us.
John McCain confused us. He was inspiring in his convention speach, then pulled all kinds of punches.

katy on November 24, 2008 at 8:15 PM
There was a lot of praise for McCain after his defeat. It came from Palin, every day. Meanwhile, while McCain’s staffers were viciously attacking Palin, McCain kept his oh-so-honorable trap shut. If he wants a video from conservatives praising him, he should try just once in his life to praise conservatives. Heck, I’d settle for just not showing obvious glee in attacking conservatives while befriending traitorous liberals. You know, baby steps.
AdrianG on November 24, 2008 at 8:16 PM
The McCain campaign was pathetic. They showed a little spark right after the convention, and from then on it was one stupid mistake after another. I hate being in the position of voting against a candidate, but that’s what I did. I’m not happy Obama was elected, but I would have only been marginally happier with McCain. And Palin is probably lucky she isn’t saddled with being part of a failed administration.
Dee2008 on November 24, 2008 at 8:20 PM
In one of our nations darker hours when Iraq teetered and the Democrats pushed for defeat, John McCain used his leverage to support Bush 100% and keep the US on a course that eventually led to Iraqi Freedom. Thank you Senator.
rob verdi on November 24, 2008 at 8:21 PM
Hey Rob. Thanks for the reminder. McCain DID get that right and I’m grateful he did. But I still don’t think he would have been a very good president.
Dee2008 on November 24, 2008 at 8:23 PM
Sarah Palin deserves this if for no other reason than for the onslaught of negative enuendo and scrutiny she endured from the media in a 9 week period compared to the clowns that had been in this race for over a year and really gave us nothing.
iceman1960 on November 24, 2008 at 8:24 PM
Sarah Palin stood tall and withstood the malicious attacks on her with humor and grace, and stayed centered.
It was she that caused a lot of us to become invested in the campaign at all. There’s nothing wrong in singling her out for a special thank you.
nyrofan on November 24, 2008 at 8:25 PM
Well-said, Allah. McCain was a poor candidate, and ran a poor campaign, but I see nothing here that they thank Palin for that McCain is not also to be praised for. And may I mention that they come across as a bunch of dorks which does nothing to promote our hotness?

Are you brain dead? Because he ran a pathetic campaign letting the Dems off the hook for the CRA disaster- which he didn’t even understand. gracie on November 24, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Because Sarah Palin is representative of a new generation of the Conservative movement and the GOP. Its time for the Baby Boomers and their tired old politics to retire and make way for the fresh new vision and leadership of younger generations who grew up in and after the Regan years and aren’t mired in the 60’s mind set of social activism and liberal guilt but however subscribe to the principle of personal responsibility and take pride in who they are and what they have achieved.

Just because Palin didn’t win or may never be president…it doesn’t mean the lessons we learned from her conservative message aren’t important or speak volumes. Great job young lady.
tomas on November 24, 2008 at 9:09 PM
You don’t see everyday regular folks praising the job of a politician…that is why I am a Proud Palin Fan.
What she has said and done for girls and women all over this country, how she handles herself and keeps her family tight, united and happy is admirable. Especially with FIVE kids.
Me, been having back and shoulder problems b/c of keeping up with the house. Tendonitis. Go figure. Some of you can trash her all you want, but there is nothing that would make me feel happier than to see her go to the White House.

kellyjane on November 24, 2008 at 9:44 PM
The sentiment is fine. Showing some enthusiasm for a leader is a message that goes beyond the leader to others in the party who are watching.
This could have been an opportunity to tweak the image of the Republican party. The people in the ad are fine, middle class, middle aged, middle Americans. Republican stereotypes. There was one young couple with a family. They should have slipped in a few young, urban types thanking Palin.
That is one way to help update the image of the Republican party. Don’t compromise the message, but show that others beyond the stereotypes believe in it.

Neocon Peg on November 24, 2008 at 10:43 PM
McCain was a hero in Vietnam and ran a respectable campaign against the Terrorist Pal-elect, but he couldn’t stand up for his own running mate both during and especially after the election. He let his campaign staff run around gossiping like so many little girls in a Lillian Hellman play. Now he’s back in the Senate kissing up to the Democrats like he has since he lost to Bush. No thanks to losers.

Why no McCain tribute? Just guessing, but here’s a few reasons: because John McCain could’ve said something, stood up for Sarah Palin when she was the target of a finger-pointing smear campaign by his own people, but he didn’t. Because he pulled his punches against Obama during the general election out of a completely misplaced sense of honor, allowing the most radical leftist ever to run for the presidency to achieve the presidency. Because he’s more interested in reaching across the aisle than he is reaching out to his own. Because he didn’t use all those years in Congress and the Senate to study economic matters in-depth, and so was caught flat-footed when the time came.
Sarah Palin in 2012.
troyriser_gopftw on November 25, 2008 at 12:13 AM
The left, the Drive By’s and the late night comics are still bashing Sarah Palin — even tonight three weeks after the election! They are still shaking in fear of this gracious, powerful woman.
And it seems to me that it wasn’t McCain’s age that did him in. Reagan was old too, but like Palin he knew how to communicate directly with the American People. McCain has a way of turning on his own and he showed it again when he let his campaign staff dump on his VP choice after the fact.
I join with this ad, “Thank you, Sarah Palin!”

The Libs’ treatment of Palin set womens gains back by a decade. It also disarms the true power of womens libbers organizations as they cherry pick the women to defend. As for the 900,000 people who watch Olberman, you are watching someone with a real mental problem. I dont know if his various facial and body tics are related to his mental condition, but he is the kind of guy that needed his head dipped in the toilet in high school a few times, and he’d cry to the guidance counselor.

As for the “thank you vid”, I agree with them. John McCain sucked, Sarah rocked. We did just what McCain’s mom said we would – we held our noses and voted for him. There is no wonder at all why he lost. He would have lost by a gigantic landslide if it weren’t for Sarah.
Squiggy on November 25, 2008 at 5:48 AM
I think this is fair. The fact that he refused to really go on the offense on serious issues like Freddy-Mae and Rev Wright, and then let Palin twist in the wind while members of his staff smeared her is also reason to exclude him from any such praise.

Because for all his talk about fighting for what’s important and putting country first, when it came to fighting the Obama campaign, McCain held back and didn’t put everything into it. He blinked.
Palin, on the other hand, was (and still is) fearless.
We should be thankful to McCain for bringing Palin front and center. Beyond that he blew it.
EMD on November 25, 2008 at 9:12 AM

Paul-Cincy on November 25, 2008 at 10:04 AM
We need to thank both McCain and Palin. John McCain will never be President, but he is a true war hero and (which is extremely rare these days) an HONEST Senator. He also deserves credit for bringing Sarah Palin to the national stage (maybe too early for her own good). McCain, at age 72, knew that 2008 was his last chance to become President, but like an athlete about to retire, he passed his torch to a brilliant understudy, who would otherwise be marginalized in Alaska.
McCain lost this campaign because he tried to be TOO noble and was not willing to attack Obama where he was weak–his radical, socialist, and sleazy ties in Chicago and his myriad changes in position over the summer–if he had, McCain could have been 10 points ahead in the polls by the convention, and could have won in the fall despite the bank failures. After the bank failures, McCain failed to explain to the voters that the roots of the economic crisis were DEMOCRATS forcing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to lend too much money to insolvent borrowers, a practice started by Barack Obama in Chicago and spread nationwide by the Clinton Administration. John McCain is a great man, but a poor campaigner. When faced with a slick sleazemaster, you’ve got to fight hard, and sometimes dirty. John McCain essentially repeated Bob Dole’s campaign against Bill Clinton in 1996, with similar results.
Sarah Palin did inspire the Republican campaign, but she was unprepared for the media onslaught against her, and she only had nine weeks to get her message out, unlike Obama (who had been campaigning for nearly two years) and McCain and Biden, who had been known nationally for decades. But she is young and smart, fearless and incorruptible, and if Obama and the Democrat Congress lurch too far left and bring our country to a Carteresque crisis (including an energy crisis), her message will make lots of sense to the voters in 2010 or 2012.
Sarah Palin lost a bid for the Vice Presidency, and is still Governor of Alaska. Other candidates have lost elections and come back to become President, such as Richard Nixon (lost in 1960, won in 1968) and Ronald Reagan (lost the primaries in 1976, elected President in 1980).
It took a Carter disaster to bring us President Reagan. Maybe it takes a President Obama to bring us President Palin.
Steve Z on November 25, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Like it says in the video, “At a time when so many politicians seemed to have let us down, you’ve given us hope.” McCain is one who “seemed to have let us down” with immigration, McCain-Feingold, etc. etc. Sarah Palin is the only reason McCain even did as well as he did and she should be thanked.
aggie13 on November 25, 2008 at 10:39 AM
Allah,
Because Governor Sarah Palin is a Conservative. John McCain is a Moderate with lots of bad ideas, look at his history in the Senate, he calls bi partisanship, and I call collusion.
I am an Independent, I stated over the campaign, I am voting for Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain’s husband. I kept getting told to get down off the fence, and make a choice. I did after John McCain chose Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. When the Left started attacking her and smearing her, I knew she was the real deal, and anything the Socialist despise or are afraid of is Good for Me.
I don’t care if it is George W Bush or Barack H Obama, I am repulsed by SOCIALISM in any guise…like a manufactured financial crisis, that appears to have the desired results of the Government, taking over Private Sector in the guise of saving the Republic – From What?
The smooth talking, teleprompter reading Obama, gonna give us some sugar “Stimulus Package” to help the Socialist Medicine go down?
Remember the LEGACY argument through out the Democrat Primary Bush 41 Clinton 42 Bush 43 Clinton 44. Well 44 Is Barack Obama but look at his Administration it might as well be Clinton…so how about that, the same two families ruling the Country for how many years now? Bi Partisanship or Collusion. There is a difference. I hardly think this is what the founders of our Republic had in mind.
Why is no one thanking McCain, as far as I can tell he is falling into line with both George W Bush, and Barack H Obama Clinton’s agenda The New World Order.
