Video: Olby devotes six and a half minutes to the Palin turkey clip

posted at 9:50 pm on November 24, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

The purest “Countdown” segment you’ll ever see: Not only is his reaction a foregone conclusion before the tape begins, but the commentary itself is largely dispensed with in favor of a sustained, closed-captioned sneer. Why they don’t use this gimmick for all footage of Republicans, with Olby’s theatrical mugging acting as a form of sign language to the nutroots faithful about precisely how disgusted they should be, I don’t know.

No special comment, at least. In the spirit of the season, for this we give thanks.

Oberman is a tool. I am just relieved he is not spending 6 minutes fantasizing how he would love to get his dream man Obama in bed over the holidays.

Irvin88 on November 25, 2008 at 1:41 AM

They are upset because they all know there is a humane alternative to killing turkeys for Thanksgiving. Just go out and buy them at the nearest supermarket!!!

Fred 2 on November 25, 2008 at 2:01 AM

Olberman asked, “What has to happen behind her for her to take notice?” Ummmm…maybe a loud noise? Clue for the clueless…Sarah Palin does NOT have eyes in the back of her head; she probably didn’t know what was going on behind her because it was BEHIND her. D’UH.

Funny, on another forum I read, someone said that after seeing that video they were going to just have roast beef sandwiches for T-Giving, they couldn’t eat another turkey. Guess they think Roast beef sandwiches are made in a lab…if anything, I’d say those free range turkeys have it better then cows. Definately have it better then factory farm raised turkeys. Much ado about nothing.

wolfva on November 25, 2008 at 3:50 AM

As if sitting for hours at the ER b/c your wife insists on taking a 19mo old to the hospital for diarrhea isn’t bad enough…. I was forced to watch MSNBC in the lobby. It was all I could do not to yank down the TV and beat myself over the head with it. Matthews, Olby, Maddow… all in a row. Seriously, someone needs to shut that damned station down.

I read that turkey demand has gone up after the clip. though truth be told, it might have just reminded people thanksgiving is around the corner.

Phoenician on November 25, 2008 at 5:03 AM

Jeez, which of the pictured has their face covered in more Mary-Kay pancake batter?

Marcus on November 25, 2008 at 5:38 AM

Sarah equals higher ratings. This turkey is desperate for ratings, so are all the other lib turkeys, that’s why they all want her to appear on their shows. Sarah should tell them all to stuff it!

Done That on November 25, 2008 at 5:38 AM

The turkey enters the cone of silence. Would that D’ohbermann and his buddy Shake-a-Leg Matthews enter one, too.

onlineanalyst on November 25, 2008 at 5:46 AM

If the turkey video is so appalling and offensive, why do these idiots keep playing it over and over again?

nyrofan on November 25, 2008 at 12:00 AM

Now is the right time to air some pro-life campaign videos. “You think killing turkeys are bad , watch this”..

the_nile on November 25, 2008 at 5:48 AM

A Palin victory in 2012 will not just a conservative win, it will be a triumph over the left.

rob verdi on November 25, 2008 at 6:07 AM

Olby is passive agressive and mentally ill. The fact that anyone hires him is amazing but I guess he attracts those of his ilk so it makes them money.

Jamson64 on November 25, 2008 at 6:42 AM

I can finally see that Olberman is morally superior to the entire human race.

snaggletoothie on November 25, 2008 at 6:56 AM

If MSNBC and other networks are going to employ guys like Olberman, Matthews, Bechtel and Schultz all of whom have one or more of the following: manic-depression, alcoholism or obsessive-compulsive disorder, they should be monitoring their behavior and insist they get back on their medications or stay off the sauce.
In the meanwhile, turn off their channels (even football when Olby’s doing color)and help drop their viewers and ratings.
My New Year’s prediction: Olby will be fired for his Turkey Talk. He’s outawhack and just too damn dumb even for the libtards.

gracie on November 25, 2008 at 6:58 AM

BEST OLBERMAN EVER! Normally I can’t stand to watch his rabbid rants but it was fun to watch his sillyness. God bless Keith Olberman.

I’ll say it again, “Oh! The horror!”

shick on November 25, 2008 at 7:00 AM

MSNBC needs to include the note: No TV personalities were harmed during the airing of this program.

shick on November 25, 2008 at 7:05 AM

He’s not very strong at ad-libbing it, is he? (But then, was he even doing so, with those prepared clips?)

And love his unnamed “conservative friend”!

And finally, how much you wanna bet he’s not going to become a vegetarian (like Tzetzes)? That he’s not going to stop eating turkeys who live in much worse conditions and are killed in much worse ways?

Tzetzes on November 25, 2008 at 7:08 AM

Killing unborn human beings is acceptable, but killing a turkey is a capital offense.

Ok.

YoungAmerican on November 25, 2008 at 1:21 AM

Curious, isn’t it? KO licks Obama’s boots even though Obama votes to allow abortionists to be free to stick surgical scissors into the brains of late-term, half-born babies, and to allow abortionists to abandon live newborn abortion-survivors in dirty closets, to die alone and in pain without any type of care. But that’s okay, I guess, since killing human babies because they’re inconvenient is apparently nowhere near as gruesome and inhumane as killing Thanksgiving turkeys for somebody’s dinner.

AZCoyote on November 25, 2008 at 7:19 AM

One would think it would be the guy in the cone of silence who performed the execution (as funnily denoted by the NYSlimes) of the turkeys as worst person of the week, not Gov Palin or maybe even the camera person who set up the shot. However, the NYSlimes noted today that Larry Summers was behind the economic meltdown and is Obama’s chief economic advisor (funny how that never came out on its editorial pages before the election)better late than never.
I think Gov Palin kept her composure during the in interview and did nothing wrong. The interviewer didn’t call Gov Palin’s attention to what was going on behind her, so how would Gov Palin know what was occurring? There was nothing going on behind her at the start of the interview, how was Gov Palin to know that would change after the interview started. But in any event, it exposes the fact that yes turkeys do get killed for thanksgiving and every other day of the year, for food. Why does it matter if such events occur behind the Governor or hidden safely away? If you enjoy turkey that is a fact of life, if you don’t hiding it would be the offense, and as Gov Palin inadvertantly but blamelessly exposed this fact, she deserves kudos.

eaglewingz08 on November 25, 2008 at 7:20 AM

Why even post a link to Keith Overbite..Countdown to no Ratings (thanks Levin!) on this site. It embeds back to MSLSD (thanks again Levin!) and goes in their web statistics and they think people actually want to watch this monstrosity.

This man is truly a pathetic soul…

bentman78 on November 25, 2008 at 7:31 AM

In America, the “cream” used to rise to the top. Now, the sh-t rises to the top with Olberman a prime example. He, like Maher, is a product of Nepotism, not talent which is an unfortunate indicator of a society failing, not suceeding. Olby needs to be caught in a dark alley where he could be slowly beaten to PULP.

Max47 on November 25, 2008 at 7:33 AM

iceman1960 on November 25, 2008 at 7:38 AM

Olberman would starve to death if he lost his can opener.
Weenies like him would last about 1 day out in the real world if they had to provide for themselves.

iceman1960 on November 25, 2008 at 7:43 AM

Didn’t watch the clip. Let me guess:

“Palin lied, turkeys died.”

Geoffry T. Spaulding on November 25, 2008 at 7:51 AM

No, its just Olby being a complete moron, with snarky little comments injected at certain points in the interview. Pretty typical stuff. Not sure who decided to call this Wattlegate in the caption under the video clip, but they’re trying too hard to be cute. I comes off as arrogant.

Marine_Bio on November 25, 2008 at 7:57 AM

Truly the first time I though olby was actually funny. ha ha

kingsjester on November 25, 2008 at 8:17 AM

Tune in tomorrow when Palin shows 6 minutes of footage from Olby’s prostate exam.

johnnyU on November 25, 2008 at 8:18 AM

What’s the big deal? A little warm blood wipes off. Ironically, I was out deer hunting all weekend, so I never saw this video, but seriously, what’s he going to show next? The horror of hard-boiling an egg or the cruel process of mashing potatoes?
Good grief, I sure hope he’s never seen a war movie (much less actual war footage), because in war, somebody usually gets hurt.

Send_Me on November 25, 2008 at 8:23 AM

Keith Olbermann should be fired.
Not just because he makes himself look ridiculous when he makes fun of other folks, he makes MSNBC look like a joke.

I wonder if his unnamed conservative friend is Peggy Noonan…? Just a thought.

lgodfrey88 on November 25, 2008 at 8:24 AM

Imagine, Olby thought the turkeys grew on trees.
It must have been devastating for him to find out turkeys have to be killed, and have to be done quickly seeing as we eat about 50 Million turkeys are eaten on Thanksgiving…50 million.

right2bright on November 25, 2008 at 8:27 AM

Its not like people are dropping turkeys live in sculding oil. I am taking it for face value from the people just being jerks. Its just showing what scum they are, and I work with a few, and they are indeed rutless scum who will stoop to anything to try and make someone look bad.

johnnyU on November 25, 2008 at 8:27 AM

Les Nesman has more journalistic credibility than Olby. And he’s a fictional character.

Come to think of it, this does remind me of Les covering the famous WKRP Turkey Drop.

Oh, the Humanity!

Has everyone seen this? Affleck’s impersonation is spot on.

I”d like to see Olby’s face digitally overlayed over the head of one of those beheaded turkeys.

kurtzz3 on November 25, 2008 at 11:37 AM

This is a hoot. My wife and I raise chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, hogs, etc. We were rolling when watching the video. Killing cones are the most humane way of “executing” the birds. “Executing”, how dumb can libs be. This method allows the bird to calm down prior to cutting the jugular vein. You do not take their head off until after they bleed out. If you do then the airway is cut causing the heart to stop, ergo, bleeding stops. You use razor sharp boxcutters to make the cut. This is as humane as it gets folks. Anyone who has seen a bird have his head lopped off can vouch for the trama of that method. Makes for broken wings and lots of bloody mess.

Where do libs think those birds come from in the supermarket? They do not magically appear. It is clear they have never visited a large production farm as opposed to the small free range farmer. Get a grip and Happy Thanksgiving. Looking forward to my turkey.

By the way libs. Do you have any idea where eggs come from? How about the method for cleaning them and making them all white and shiny? Formaldehyde wash, yum.

Get off the free range farmers back nitwits.

In more exciting news…if you’re a Georgian there’s an Alaskan coming your way. Palin is campaigning with Chambliss on Monday, Dec. 1st. Rallies: 8:30 a.m. in Augusta; 11:00 a.m. in Savannah; 1:30 p.m. in Perry; and 4:00 p.m. in Atlanta. More here.

crabtree on November 25, 2008 at 2:10 PM

Olberman and Maddow built their reps on “hate” and cannot, will not survive without it. It is the thing that keeps their audiences together. They are looking for a few new targets and Sarah is certainly one of their options. Hatred of issues, per se, is not something that will work for them. The fundamental vitriol has to have a “person” target or fizzles.

jeanie on November 25, 2008 at 2:29 PM

Olberdouche is typical of so many on the left. They love to throw barbs at Sarah and call her “the dumbest politician”, but if they actually had to do her job as Governor of Alaska (not Mayor of Wasilla, keef, you idiot!) or raise 5 kids, or actually do ANYTHING results-oriented, they would wet their pants in fear.

Meanwhile, they’ll tell you that Obambi is soooooo smart. When I hear him talk, he sounds to me like he’s talking on a 6th grade level. Maybe it’s because I’m just a dumb conservative without a Harverrrrd law degree that I can’t see the wisdom of his words. Like the emperor’s new clothes.
