Hot Air poll: Who should replace Colmes?

It occurs to me that our readership, given its size and political bent, is probably far more representative of the Fox News audience than TV Newser’s is, and I know for a fact that at least a few FNC producers read HA. By all means, continue to vote in TVN’s poll — that’s the one cable news execs follow — but let’s see what actual Hannity fans think.

Screw you. If you want respect then you act respectfully towards others. It’s also obvious you either didn’t read my entire comment or couldn’t comprehend it.
Please take my previous comment to heart and follow thru.

I would love to see Tammy Bruce, as a “real” Democrat and David Horowitz have a show…Democrats, then and now…

And drive the whole nation into Alcoholism?
Howabout Ed Schultz. Fox could install an Emergency Exit in the studio for when he gets upset and leaves. Las Vegas could run odds every night as to what time in the hour he will bolt.

Powers definitely. She’s reasonable for a liberal and not bad on the eyes. When she starts to talk silly one can just mute the program.
shick on November 24, 2008 at 4:12 PM
You mean his Freedom Concerts the proceeds of which go to supporting our troops? Yeah, I can see why you would get pissed off over doing something like that! Imagine actually doing something more than just providing lip service about supporting those who go in harm’s way.
highhopes on November 24, 2008 at 4:12 PM
Who says we need balance? Go for Amanda Carpenter or Mary Katharine Hamm… but if you insist on balance KP would be my vote. Can’t say I’m sorry to see the pencil neck geek move on, all he could ever do was regurgitate liberal talking points. Name one time he actually added value to the show.

Yep.
It depends. I won’t call out a whole group of people, but any who voted for McCain either don’t understand why they called themselves Democrats to begin with or decided they no longer want to be Democrats.
Esthier on November 24, 2008 at 4:15 PM
It should be me. I am not a liberal, but for that kind of dough, I could fake it even with the higher taxes on the rich.

No one should replace him. Hannity solo.

Juan Williams is great. And replace Hannity with Steyn.
Steyn and Williams.

MadisonConservative on November 24, 2008 at 4:20 PM
whats the matter you don`t like the way she says…
“Seaaaaaadn”?? I vote for Beckel, he`s pompous enough to make me angry on a daily basis.
NY Conservative on November 24, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Then they are no longer Democrats. The word has an evolving meaning.
She agrees with them more often than not and at one point argued that Democrats used to be pro-life and that she just didn’t change.
Esthier on November 24, 2008 at 4:22 PM
I voted for Carville (the Serpent). Let’s put a REALLY obnoxious jerk like he or Beckel out there. Then people can watch progressive / socialist rectums spewing stupidity, hate, and Karl Marx five nights a week. Truth in advertising, one might say.
oldleprechaun on November 24, 2008 at 4:23 PM
How about Mccain?
Hes liberal enough, and not doing much for the next few years.
But in seriousness, it needs to be a flame thrower. Carville would be a great pick. Think of the interesting TV it would be.
Juan Williams would also be a good pick. But would much rather watch a firebrand.
Canon on November 24, 2008 at 4:24 PM
It was my opinion and I was, and still am willing to discuss the point … but not with someone who thinks they’re the HotAir opinion monitor.
I don’t like Powers. Get.Over.It.

I don’t like your rationale for excluding her. Get. Over. It.
If you can’t take a dissenting opinion or argument without name-calling in response, that’s your problem.
MadisonConservative on November 24, 2008 at 4:27 PM
IMO, Smith has gone to the dark side. He would be unbearable on this type of show. It would be like Shepherd Smith
UnpluggedUnhingedMr_Magoo on November 24, 2008 at 4:28 PM
Are you happy and content with the direction of the Republican party? No? Then you’re no longer a Republican.
There are democrats who don’t like the direction the party has taken and would rtather change it then leave it.
Good Lord I’m exhausted … I can’t believe a simple point was so misunderstood.
darwin on November 24, 2008 at 4:28 PM
She probably agree with them on every issue except abortion. She probably not a single issue voter. Just like there are Republicans who are pro-choice. Although I admit seeing a pro-life Dem on television is pretty rare. She might be the only one!

Hannity should just have Thomas Sowell on every night and let him do the talking.
V15J on November 24, 2008 at 4:30 PM
I’m happy enough that I vote Republican. That’s a huge difference than being so unhappy that I vote Democrat.
Except that by voting Republican, they did leave it.
Darwin, please try talking here with respect. Your point wasn’t misunderstood. I got what you were saying, as I’m not an idiot. I just disagree with you, and I’ve done so respectfully.

Look buddy … you started this crap with your comment. Had you simply replied to my comment with your opinion we could have had a nice back and forth. Instead, you came out as a snarky ass. You got the reply you deserved.
darwin on November 24, 2008 at 4:33 PM
as long as that dork Rich Lowry never appears on the show again
joey24007 on November 24, 2008 at 4:34 PM
So now you’re doing the same to him. Doesn’t that at least make you even now so the conversation can progress?
Esthier on November 24, 2008 at 4:35 PM
I agree but I guess others don’t see it that way. To be honest though, I felt that abortion is more of a heart issue. Pro-lifers can do much more by changing people’s heart about the issue than any piece of legislation could. Maybe that is the way Powers feels??? I don’t know.
terryannonline on November 24, 2008 at 4:36 PM
I have no idea what you’re talking about. Nothing in my replies to you is disrespectful. I will reply to others with the same level of respect I receive. It’s as simple as that.
I’ve been commenting here since this blog started up and have never been chastised before simply for voicing my opnions … until today that is.
darwin on November 24, 2008 at 4:38 PM
If you want to guarantee that I will never watch H&X again, hire Susan Estrich.
Here’s how to do a Susan Estrich imitation.
1.Scream at the top of your lungs for about 5 minutes. I mean really deep down screaming where the back of your throat is in pain.
2. Cough up a little phlegm
3. Talk.
Works every time.
Mallard T. Drake on November 24, 2008 at 4:38 PM
I think what makes H&C work is how obvious it is that Sean and Alan genuinely like one another. Of the list, I think Hannity gets along best with Estrich; I chose her.
ggoofer on November 24, 2008 at 4:38 PM
I replied with a fact. Feel free to disprove it. The nasty back and forth started with you getting insulting. Not my fault you’re still in conniptions from the election. Tissues are over there.
MadisonConservative on November 24, 2008 at 4:38 PM
I think you’re exaggerating that to a degree. And what I’m talking about is your obvious frustration that people just don’t get you as is implied by one of your last posts to me.
As I pointed out, it’s not that I didn’t get it but that I got it and was disagreeing. If you begin with that as a given, there will be no misunderstandings on the issue of respect.
Esthier on November 24, 2008 at 4:42 PM
I voted for KP, but I also threw Bennifer’s hat in the ring on the other thread.
Of course, then there’s Penn/Glover/Robbins/Moore/etc… Let them defend Chavez in front of Hannity.
ornery_independent on November 24, 2008 at 4:42 PM
I really didn’t care at first, but now that the “actual Hannity fans” agree with the other poll, it takes on a whole new perspective.
Powers and Juan Williams both seem too moderate for the job. Sean needs someone just as partisan, just as loud, and willing to dig in their heels on the issues. Giving Hannity a pushover would ruin the show in my opinion.
Bob Beckel would be much tougher on Conservatives, but he’s a huge improvement over Colmes when it comes to having some common sense.
mike_NC9 on November 24, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Kirsten could get me to finally watch the show. A liberal coworker told me he couldn’t take a full hour of Hannity, I told him I may just put the TV on mute…. :P
Kirsten, you could make me vote straight Democratic ticket–call me! ;)

How about Reagan’s son. Ron Jr. I believe. You know. The one that’s the ballet dancer. It would be nice to see Colmes replaced with someone a little more masculine.

How about Naomi Wolf?
Hannity and Wolf… has a nice ring to it…
max1 on November 24, 2008 at 4:55 PM
Colmes was an irrational partisan hack whose only function was to sow confusion and deceit. He had producers who managed to come up with outlandish non-germane facts to further those ends. He did not substantively contribute to the debate.
KP is a leftist who is not certifiably insane as is Colmes. She would be an excellent choice. Bob Beckel, if you can keep him out of the cat houses would be good too, but is not nearly so enjoyable to look at.
Same with Juan Williams – a good foil for Hannity but no KP.
My vote: Kristin Powers – she’s an idiot, but at least rational.

To answer AP’s original question, I’d love to SEE Powers get the nod.
But…I confess, it would be a very interesting show if Carville got it. Extremely bright dude, I always have respected him even if I disagree with him on….everything.

A potential pitfall of having Powers or another female is Sean will have to very careful not to come across as sexist. After this last election cycle, there will be people trying to make it seem that way even if there is not enough proof.
ny59giants on November 24, 2008 at 5:47 PM
I guess it depends how define “liberal”? She’s left leaning that’s for certain. Plus, she’s a Democrat. All you need to do for the job is spew Dem talking points. She already does that.
terryannonline on November 24, 2008 at 5:51 PM
Whoopi Goldberg. She’s entertaining and Sean said he actually likes her. Plus, having a black president, if she and Sean actually agreed on any Obama criticism, that criticism could not possibly come across as raaaaaacist. And criticizing The One without being labled raaaacist will become quite the challenge as his admin goes on the defensive as it’s dragged down with the tanking economy.
shuzilla on November 24, 2008 at 6:04 PM
Actually, a talking tree stump would be an adequate replacement for Colmes.
irongrampa on November 24, 2008 at 6:06 PM
sorry, Kristen is pretty, but she doesn’t seem to me to have much depth. Juan is pretty lefty, but borderline reasonable sometimes.
urbancenturion on November 24, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Alternate answer: who cares?
Let Sean go solo a while. If someone wants the job, they can come forward and ask for it. Or Sean could audition his new partner like Ebert did after Siskel (sp?) kicked the bucket.
urbancenturion on November 24, 2008 at 6:11 PM
