Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), we’ll take a look at the past week with Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson of the Hugh Hewitt Show. We’ll talk about the bailout and whose money it is. Zogby polls and Obama voters? Yeah, we’ve got that too. How about new Cabinet appointments? All of this and more — and stay tuned for a preview of tonight’s Hugh Hewitt Show.

Now you can join the conversation in the chat room! Be sure to register at Ustream to participate in our raucous live-chat sessions. (And if the log-in prompt doesn’t come up in the chat box below, use this link instead.) Lady Logician of True North moderates the chat, and she has the Troll Gun Trivia Contest running before the show, for those who get there early — and are registered!

The whole ustream site appears down right now. I can’t even access the main page. Oh well things happen.

simkeith on November 21, 2008 at 4:01 PM

It’s a server problem. I still have the video/audio only because I watch on the Ustream site and didn’t refresh after losing the chat.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:02 PM

I wonder if Ed and Duane are still able to talk? The last thing that I saw and heard was Ed apologizing that the chat was locked up.

ORrighty on November 21, 2008 at 4:03 PM

I’m booted too.

forest on November 21, 2008 at 4:03 PM

eeyore on November 21, 2008 at 4:09 PM

Ed’s playing Thaddeus Cotter’s claim that because Congress shoved the new CAFE standards down the Big Three’s throats, they owe the Big Three a bailout.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Duane – “GM has become a 800-lb pension company that happens to make cars on the side.”

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:11 PM

I’ll be interested to hear Cam & Company Monday. He’s going to the “National Gun SHow” in Chantilly (sp). Should be mobbed.

eeyore on November 21, 2008 at 4:12 PM

I’m saving up for a big show in Louisville called National Gun Day (Dec 13&14).

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Duane it correct

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Ed and Duane now discussing (filleting, really) the plan to nationalize pensions.

Ed – “If government destroys the 401(k)s, you’ll see Dow 1500 at best.”

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:14 PM

thx for the play by play egg.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:14 PM

thx for the play by play egg.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:14 PM

No prob. It’s what I do best (relatively-speaking).

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Now, Al Kamen writes for today’s WaPo, “If Clinton’s the Pick, Where Does That Leave Richardson?“:

[...]

As for Richardson, Murguia suggested he could serve as secretary of commerce or the interior. “Perhaps there’s an ambassador role to China,” she added.

What ELSE could we do with Bill? Here are some thoughts of mine:

* The next mayor of Wasilla, Alaska
* Sarah’s envoy to Russia
* Chief negotiator between the Mexican drug cartel and the Mexican police
* Ambassador to the Galapagos Islands
* Personal deliveryman of booze to Kim Jong-il

will13smith on November 21, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Steve – how many chatizens survived the purge?

eeyore on November 21, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Had chat still been up (or Ed and Duane been paying attention to the chat for the 5 minutes before it crashed), they’d know who the SecTreas designee is (NY Fed chair Tim Geithner).

The market liked it; it went from +150 on the day to +494.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Bill JUDAS Richardson

will13smith on November 21, 2008 at 4:17 PM

If Ustream is down how is steve still able to hear and see the show.

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Unknown, eeyore. Ustream is hard down, and only the video stream server remains semi-functional (i.e. if you had it up at Ustream, it’s still up).

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:18 PM

Chat crashed and he didn’t try to fix it.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:18 PM

If Ustream is down how is steve still able to hear and see the show.

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:17 PM

I listen via the Ustream show page, and I didn’t refresh that when I lost chat.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Al Kamen is a racist…

An Era of Hate on November 21, 2008 at 4:19 PM

will13smith on November 21, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Joel Gray was creepily awesome in Cabaret!

baldilocks on November 21, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Memo for Jazz – Ed and Duane are praising Gen. James Jones as National Security Advisor.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Steve

I was listening there too. I guess my mistake was to refresh

Oh well live and learn

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Duane – “I will support Obama when he supports policies I support.”

Ed – “Would you support Obama enough to name schools after him?”, as they start discussion on the first school named after Obama (I believe it was a NYC public school).

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:21 PM

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:20 PM

The power of multiple browsers, ordi. :-)

Duane – “If McCain would have won, should any school be named after him now?”

Ed – “That’s silly.”

Duane – “Even if Obama is a one-termer, after he’s done, I wouldn’t mind a couple schools named after him.”

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:23 PM

That is so sad……… he has not even taken office yet. Me thinks some people will be disappointed….

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:23 PM

There is a school in Africa named for Him that he promised $ to and then failed to deliver.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Ed points out that there might be something named after McCain, but that’s because he’s been in the Senate for a long time.

Duane – “If there’s a sewer district that’s dippy enough to name a place after George W. Bush, it doesn’t surprise me there’s a school board dippy enough to name a school after Obama.”

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Do Ed and Duane even know they are not broadcasting to many of us? Are they talking to the walls? lol

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:25 PM

Steve – IIRC – that sewer district naming issue failed on the ballot.

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:26 PM

Tune into the Hugh Hewitt Show to find out why Mort Kondracke doesn’t like him, and how (or if) the Pubbies can come out of the wilderness.

Today’s movie top 10 is back-in-time movies. Ed likes “Army of Darkness”. Groovy!

Duane chooses “Star Trek IV” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:26 PM

Does Ed miss us as much as we miss him (sniff).

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:27 PM

Do Ed and Duane even know they are not broadcasting to many of us? Are they talking to the walls? lol

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:25 PM

Yes. I think Ed’s hoping the recorders are still working.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:27 PM

we hope they are working too

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:28 PM

Onto the Terminator series – they both say 2 is the best. Hasta la vista, baby (which is good because I couldn’t say the phrase from the original here).

Slight correction on the Kondracke – he hates Rush.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Does Ed miss us as much as we miss him (sniff).

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:27 PM

Yes.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Ed’s demanding a bailout for those of us who can’t listen to Hugh over the air, and Duane wants lawsuits asking for radio station GM’s birth certificates.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:30 PM

they only know that chat went down … probably think we’re still listening

ORrighty on November 21, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Laura Ingraham hosts O’Reilly tonight. Will have Mort on, too. She’s ready to tear into him…

mbo213 on November 21, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Ed’s looking at having Duane on next Wednesday. Otherwise, it will likely be “Best Of”s.

And they’re out, with Ed doing air dancing.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:33 PM

I like Laura I’ll be watching that

ORrighty on November 21, 2008 at 4:33 PM

they only know that chat went down … probably think we’re still listening

ORrighty on November 21, 2008 at 4:31 PM

I think Ed knew that most of us were booted.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Thanks for all the updates, steve – a little clunkier than chatting, tho.

eeyore on November 21, 2008 at 4:34 PM

thanks for the play by play Steve … see ya’ll later

ORrighty on November 21, 2008 at 4:34 PM

Ed’s is doing his radio show tomorrow Yes?

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Hey; I’m barely a 40 wpm typist, and a sloppy one at that :-)

Seriously, no problem. Glad I could help you with the Captain Fix.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Ed’s is doing his radio show tomorrow Yes?

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Did not hear one way or the other.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

I left for a coffee with the dog after trying to refresh. I just figured this was the natural result of critisizing the Messiah.

Thanks for the updates all. And have a great weekend.

Canadian Infidel on November 21, 2008 at 4:37 PM

thx egg.

Bye Yall.

mad saint jack on November 21, 2008 at 4:38 PM

I am fairly sure the NARN is on tomorrow

ordi on November 21, 2008 at 4:39 PM

Hi all. I’m bummed I missed the show today…wanted to join “the after the show show” but could not connect. Looks like there were problems today. Have a great weekend. Hopefully I’ll catch ya’all tomorrow on Ed’s Sat show.

Ozark_sky on November 21, 2008 at 4:49 PM

Good news – Ustream is back.

Better news – the full show is properly archived.

steveegg on November 21, 2008 at 4:58 PM

You asked for change-you got change.
And Janet Reno wasn’t even involved…that we know of.
Wonder what her position in the new cabinet will be?

Amendment X on November 21, 2008 at 5:46 PM

Duane – “GM has become a 800-lb pension company that happens to make cars on the side.”

Once there was a company called EDS. You remember, GM bought it from ol’ jugg ears H. Ross Perot. Well, back in the mid-90’s GM’s pension plan was underfunded by $25 billion. GM’s ownership of EDS (as determined by GM class E tracking shares) happened to be $25 billion. So GM management turned around and funded the pension plan by contributing EDS to the pension plan, but failed to deal with the underlying defined benefits plans. Lo and behold by 2003, GM’s pension plan was once again underfunded by $25 billion.

Not a dime for the big 2.5 without a fundamental restructuring of its labor contracts. The goverment can provide the DIP financings for bankruptcy protection while they restructure their liabilities.

phreshone on November 21, 2008 at 8:15 PM

OK, then the entire show went down. For a moment I thought someone used the troll gun on me and I was wondering what the Hell I did wrong?
