I don’t see this as Obama not wanting any gun owners working for him. I see this as a CYA, making sure the media cannot scrutinize. I understand it. He’s working his propaganda machine.

Once an uppity woman (environmetal type) asked a bunch of us engineers why we had more than one kind of gun. I answered that it was necessary to have a firearm suitable for the target. I told her that a .22 was suitable for small children and a larger caliber gun like a .44 would be needed for larger men. I pointed to my 240 lb cubicle neighbor sitting across the lunch table when I said it. She never again spoke to me the whole ten years I worked for that company, which is exactly what I wanted.

When someone asks me if I like children, I usually answer by saying, “Yeah, I like my children.” That usually sends them on their way, and I get left alone.

From what I understand, although I do not own one, yes.

They are fascinating little devices, come with a wide variety of options, and are relatively inexpensive (although you can spend as much as you want.)

A hobbyist finds pleasure in things others find useless. If you have a gun for purely practical reasons (hunting or personal protection) you need one or few. If you take an interest in the weapons as a group, there is a nearly infinite variety to keep you busy.
