Here is something interesting.

Our godchild will be baptized this morning. Our in-laws told us the Catholic Church will not baptize anyone who uses a non-Christian name, so don’t expect any “Husseins” or “Baracks” to show up at that school if they are Catholics.

Good for the Church.

Shelby Steele makes the point that Obama achieved greatness simply by being the 1st black President — it’s all about race — and that since he probably doesn’t even have core values of his own, is unlikely to achieve anything else.

Consequently, he’s probably already achieved the greatest thing he’ll ever achieve, and it’s probably appropriate to name things after him on that basis alone.

Let’s hope that’s true. My own sense is that there may be achievements in his administration that correspond to the sort of notoriety gained by Neville Chamberlain, or possibly corresponding to the notoriety gained by Fidel Castro.

Did anyone name a school after Richard Nixon in November 1968? If they had, they would have been pretty embarrassed to have that name by August 1974, wouldn’t they? Hopefully Obama’s administration won’t end that way, but maybe school boards ought to wait and find out first.

Wouldn’t the first name be racist? That’s what Obama and McCain told me.

How about we rename Mt Everest, Mt Obama? How about renaming Mt Zion, Mt Obama?

On another matter… this is a public school, right? Doesn’t naming it this violate the Establishment Clause? Or is it okay to name public schools after religious figures?
