CNN: Bush not snubbed after all

posted at 11:14 am on November 21, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Credit CNN for stomping on their own Rick Sanchez, who reported that George Bush had … “cooties” at the G20 meeting. It turns out that Sanchez didn’t bother to actually check out the details of the reception, which Jeanne Moos did after Sanchez’ report went viral yesterday:

Bush didn’t get snubbed at all, it turns out. He had already greeted most of these leaders, including a number of photo ops that Moos includes in this report. The handshakes we see in Sanchez’ clip occurred with leaders who had not already met for a grip-and-grin before the group shot.

Hey, even Angela Merkel posed with Bush and smiled while he grabbed her hand … and only her hand. Silvio Berlusconi held Bush’s hand as they strolled off the dais. Everyone seemed cheery around Bush, even with the economy diving into a teacup this week.

So where does this leave Rick Sanchez? How does a show host recover from having his own network rip apart his reporting as puerile and uninformed? Move to MS-NBC, where those qualities have value?

And exactly what I said yesterday.
Seems like most of us knew what this was all about.

right2bright on November 21, 2008 at 11:18 AM

How foolish, most of the time he has met with them privately. He has no need to “glad hand” them.
You could pull up any number of clips from other presidents doing the same.
They just walk on stage, that’s all just walk on stage for the photo op.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel…in the next few days every leader will be shown doing this.

right2bright on November 20, 2008 at 9:20 AM

You don’t need to go any further to get the real scoop then HotAir…

CNN not reporting the news accurately; next you’ll tell me there’s no Santa Claus.

Sanchez is PAINFULLY UNWATCHABLE!

Star20 on November 21, 2008 at 11:20 AM

He already has a show after running someone down with his car while high on alcohol and coke. At the margin, what does this matter?

DrSteve on November 21, 2008 at 11:20 AM

Move to MS-NBC, where those qualities have value?

They already dumped Sanchez once. What’s left after CNN and MSNBC toss you under the bus?

On to the The View.

They. Have. No. Shame.

He’ll just go on doing the same crap like this never happened.

CNN constantly lets “Dirty Sanchez” get away with the most rotten DailyKos reporting. Why isn’t this guy at MSLSD like the rest of the bots?

portlandon on November 21, 2008 at 11:23 AM

It turns out that Sanchez didn’t bother to actually check out the details of the reception

Of course he didn’t. Dirty Sanchez was too busy playing the rusty trombone ™ to bother checking the facts.

UltimateBob on November 21, 2008 at 11:25 AM

Sanchez is a minority hire, so he can be excused for being awful at his gig.

mylegsareswollen on November 21, 2008 at 11:27 AM

This is but one reason I NEVER watch CNN or MSNBC. Both of these have been taken off of my DirectTV lineup because I don’t even want to take the chance of landing on them while surfing channels. I never want to risk throwing something at my TV.

I really hate the f word, but FU*K you, Sanchez and Stewart!

I guess CNN is finally paying attention to Rasmussen. Being in the tank for the left and constantly deriding Republicans sends viewers to Fox. Money talks bull$#!^ walks.

Once a reporter who got it so wrong might have apologized for not doing basic research and for misleading his viewers. Let’s call that the Golden Age of America. Are we at clay yet?
In Sanchez’s original post he repeatedly calls Bush a bully. Then he says ‘bully’ isn’t his word but that his research on the net has lead him to see that this is how the world sees Bush. And hatchet job isn’t my term, that’s just how most fair minded observers see most of Sanchez’s work.

snaggletoothie on November 21, 2008 at 11:36 AM

Once again we are reminded – as if we needed to be – that our press actively seeks to undermine the reputation of this President in particular, and America in general, in favor of serving their agenda.

Isn’t this, by definition, “anti-American”?

Oops, I went all oogedy-boogedy, there, didn’t I?

Jaibones on November 21, 2008 at 11:36 AM

In other news, E.D. Hill of Fox News does not have her contract renewed for reporting that OTHERS were calling the Barry-Michelle fist bump a “terrorist fist bump.”

There is not much more dangerous than a biased media. Ask Goebbels, who admitted that propaganda made the Third Reich.

Let’s roll.

Rick Sanchez is just.. dirty

DaveC on November 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM

I don’t know what to think. CNN has been doing some actual reporting throughout the last couple of months. Of course, most of that was well after the election was already bought and in the bag, but still, it’s nice to see them continue some real reporting.

Sir Corky on November 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Sir Corky on November 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM

That’s the key statement, they know they need some creds, but they waited till after the decision…and they never really but tossed a few bones to the Repubs.
But now I think they need viewers, and we are the viewers…too little, too late.

I am going to start a you tube channel of me reading the news…I can make up news just as easy as Rick Sanchez, and mine will be about the incoming President, not a lame duck so it will be like relavant and #$#%. He does realize that this is 2008? People can fact check with a couple of key strokes

Dr Evil on November 21, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Sanchez wants so desperately to be CNN’s Keith Olberman that he’ll say anything. He thinks it is fun to be wrong. CNN’s got a loose cannon in him, hopefully, unlike MSNBC they won’t reward the trait and will take Sanchez to the woodshed for his, and their own good.

The more liberal a talk show host, the more self-involved he is, and the less likely he is to ever consider that he just might be wrong. If they would just acknowledge, no, if they could just SEE their own bias, they might be watchable. But they don’t, so they’re not.

Paul-Cincy on November 21, 2008 at 12:21 PM

Pretty pathetic when the the gal whose role is to create cute features pieces is a better investigative reporter than the supposed real journalists.

Y-not on November 21, 2008 at 12:26 PM

To understand Sanchez we must look into his early life. In our compelling report, we will reenact one of his most defining moments, when, in high school, he decided to become a real reporter.

Sanchez: OMG did U C B?
Ashley: No ? 411!
Sanchez: K, so he has cooties!
Ashley: NW!!!1! haha
Sanchez: ya
Ashley: 411?
Sanchez: IDK just saying cause G20 PPL were all gross
Ashley: STFU! srsly?
Sanchez: ya! Sick! hey O is so hot
Ashley: hottie! crissy lurves him.
Sanchez: ya crissys my bff so whatev. brb
Sanchez: IB oh – NVM about B, he’s prolly OK
Ashley: no cooties? did you tell everyone he has them?
Sanchez: Ya lulz!!!1!!
Ashely: AYSOS? UFB
Sanchez: ^URS
Sanchez: uh oh GTG- Moos is IDing me.
Ashley: oh nooos!
Sanchez: GTG bye!
Ashley: KBYE – don’t drive 420! lol!
Sanchez: LOL!

This groundbreaking style of reporting garnered him a journalism scholarship and a spot on CNN, setting the tone for all future journalists.

Who would intentionally snub the leader of the most important nation in the world… in his own country… in front of his notoriously over-eager news media… in the middle of a major economic crisis… before they sat down to beg for help?

Not to mention that “world leaders” rarely ever earn their title by snubbing the rich, powerful, or famous.

fiscallyconservative on November 21, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Bush didn’t get snubbed at all, it turns out. He had already greeted most of these leaders,

Like I said yesterday……

I happen to know that Bush shook hands with everyone of those world leaders in a private meeting a few moments before this video was taken.

RobCon on November 21, 2008 at 1:20 PM

President Bush is a good man — it’s pretty pathetic when the left, and their media cohorts, go to great lengths to prove otherwise.

It’s good on CNN to show just how splashed the egg on Sanchez’s face truly is.

Richard Romano on November 21, 2008 at 1:23 PM

Me too. There never was a snub, just edits to give the illusion of one. So, of all the crack staff at CNN, it fell to entertainment reporter, Jeanie Moos, to volunteer a fact check.

Mark30339 on November 21, 2008 at 1:24 PM

Let’s face it, there are a few good reporters left, but they’re the exception, not the rule. As a whole, quality reporting has gone the way of the rabbit ears. A lot of the crap that gets reported on tv, such as this, has no news value to it whatsoever. It’s another case of a mindless talking head trying to fill air time and, not having the skill to do it well, he resorts to conjuring up something that he has no idea whether is true or not. Good for CNN to report on this, but until the media stops hiring nitwits like this who, on their best day, can’t even muster up a mediocre performance, this is what they can expect.

BKennedy on November 21, 2008 at 1:41 PM

This shows how immature and idiotic the mentality of the media is. I mean, of all the words you could use, cooties? Really!?

Sanchez has disgraced himself over the last several months. Especially with his treatment of Joe The Plumber during an interview. He needs to go and not return on air with any news channel.

Maybe he can start blogging and work with Andrew Sullivan or someone fitting like that.
