Video: Stevens says goodbye

A touching moment. Or at least, it would have been without those seven felony convictions.

Exit quotation from his partner in pork, and the only guy left on the floor older than Stevens himself: “That’s right, Ted!”

Does projectile vomiting count as “puddling up?”

’cause in that case, I’m definitely puddling up.

wccawa on November 20, 2008 at 7:48 PM

Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome.

Anyone with a shred of common sense or outrage said good bye to him 6 months ago.

BigWyo on November 20, 2008 at 7:50 PM

TERM freaking LIMITS. Please.

The guy behind him seemed pretty much as interested as I was.

fiscallyconservative on November 20, 2008 at 7:50 PM

Ok, old old person saying something like that pulls at my heart strings. Wish him well anywhere but in the Senate.

Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 7:52 PM

He got in his big truck, dumped in a series of tubes, and drove off on the information superhighway.

Good riddance, you corrupt old creep.

MadisonConservative on November 20, 2008 at 7:54 PM

oink, oink.

Y-not on November 20, 2008 at 7:57 PM

Wow. If those guys have to listen to that sort of thing all day, maybe they do deserve their salaries.

sharrukin on November 20, 2008 at 7:57 PM

Adios!

Theworldisnotenough on November 20, 2008 at 8:00 PM

“My time with you here has been rewarding. I leave with a heavy heart and wallet. ….”

Dusty on November 20, 2008 at 8:02 PM

And they gave him a standing ovation.

FAIL.

Ditto, Cindy.

Missy on November 20, 2008 at 8:03 PM

Well,it would have been better to go out on a
more honourably note, however, forty years is a
long time for public service, and as Ted Stevens
was a Republican,and did serve a long time,I hope
he enjoys his retirement!:)

canopfor on November 20, 2008 at 8:03 PM

And they gave him a standing ovation.

FAIL.

It’s Vintage, Duh on November 20, 2008 at 8:02 PM

He has no rear view mirror.
He thinks he has more work to do.

Yeck.

Oh, and no mention that he essentially cost the Republican party a solid Senate seat for what could be the most critical six years of what would have been his career.

Count to 10 on November 20, 2008 at 8:09 PM

And take William Jefferson with you!

At least the gentlemen here are being understanding. You guys are the best.

Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 8:20 PM

Although he was certainly a political adversary, I cant think of anyone who has done more for Alaska than Ted Stevens. Its truly a shame he didn’t retire in quiet dignity a decade ago.

Happy trails, Uncle Ted.

benny shakar on November 20, 2008 at 8:27 PM

Get out.

paul006 on November 20, 2008 at 8:35 PM

Could you take McCain, Grahamesty, and that douche J. Gregg with you on your way out, Teddy?

*Wipes tear away*

Don’t let the door hit you….

HornetSting on November 20, 2008 at 8:37 PM

I’m sure he did a lot of fine things during his tenure. But he is a convicted felon, he didn’t step aside and let another Republican have a chance at his seat. For that he will be remembered, one last selfish act that hurt Republicans at a critical time.

Hog Wild on November 20, 2008 at 8:38 PM

At least the gentlemen here are being understanding. You guys are the best.

Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 8:20 PM

Thankfully I’m not a gentleman. He’s a turd that shoulda been flushed a long time ago.

davidk on November 20, 2008 at 8:47 PM

fair riddance. and don’t come back.

bloghooligan on November 20, 2008 at 8:51 PM

davidk on November 20, 2008 at 8:47 PM

Sure you are, I wasn’t talking about your opinion of the Senator, just how nice it is that no one is teasing Missy and I about our soft hearted reactions. I wish that the senator retired early also, it is not to our advantage to have an R after the name of the earmark king.

Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 8:58 PM

Don’t mind if the door hits you on your way out. You typify everything wrong with Washington. You should have resigned, but again your sky high arrogance deprived Gov Palin of the ability to appoint a republican who could have retained this seat. Your hubris brings democrats to dangerous proximity to filibuster proof Senate control. I hope you find religion in prison.

eaglewingz08 on November 20, 2008 at 8:59 PM

Palin aught to fine him for mentioning her even in passing in his goodbye speech. No guilt by association, please.

I’m sure he did a lot for his state. Yeah, it was once just a frozen tundra and now there are roads. But he was a crook, and he should have stepped aside and let another Republican run if he cared at all about this country.

So long, you selfish jerk. Have fun in jail.

ramrocks on November 20, 2008 at 9:04 PM

I’m glad he’s gone. I just wish he would have won then been ejected. That way we could have kept the seat.

boomer on November 20, 2008 at 9:05 PM

I liked it. Considering all things, that’s a good speech to wrap up an era.

Spirit of 1776 on November 20, 2008 at 9:14 PM

Buh-bye.

Parting gift suggestion: Soap-on-a-rope. No bending over needed in the big house.

Who’s next?

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on November 20, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Adios convicted felon reprobate… don’t let the door hit you in the @ss on the way out.

On 2nd thought, I hope it squishes your head.

FlatFoot on November 20, 2008 at 11:15 PM

I’m surprised when I read that only about a quarter of the Senate was there to send him off.

Although Stevens leaves in shame, I certainly honor his 40 years in the Senate.

asc85 on November 20, 2008 at 11:16 PM

Just shut the hell up and get the hell out of here, ya felonious assclown.

Anyone with a shred of decencey would have resigned when the damn indictments were handed down.

Tells ya everything you’ll ever remember about Ted Stevens, now joining Larry “Wide Stance” Craig on the ash heap of GOP disgraces.

Just a notch below the McCain Campaign Team.

SuperCool on November 21, 2008 at 2:11 AM

Bye, creep!

nottakingsides on November 21, 2008 at 5:17 AM

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now if we could only get rid of EVERY SINGLE incumbent, we’d have something going.

Although Stevens leaves in shame, I certainly honor his 40 years in the Senate.

There is nothing honorable about sucking from the federal tit for 40 years. NOTHING. If he believed in conservative values, he’d have stopped running after his second term and refuse a federal pension. But he’s just another piece of trash from DC.

RWLA on November 21, 2008 at 5:33 AM

Na na na na..na na na na ..hey hey hey .. good bye..and good riddance.

Hopefully old Teddy boy can be the pied piper for all the rest of Democratic-wanna be in the GOP.

1 down oh so many to go.

RuffledRaven on November 21, 2008 at 7:22 AM

Ok, old old person saying something like that pulls at my heart strings. Wish him well anywhere but in the Senate.

Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 7:52 PM

Like in prison. And let’s not forget that he is the guy that wouldn’t support the war spending bill if he didn’t get his friggin earmarks. Class act. Maybe he and Duke can snuggle and keep each other company until the sun finally sets on these ass-clowns once and for all.
Not that I am bitter or anything…….

JeffinOrlando on November 21, 2008 at 8:18 AM

Don’t let the door hit you in the a$$, dirtbag.

Forget the felony convictions on personal venality, how much of my Federal tax dollars did he steal to buy votes in his home state with pork projects?

quikstrike98 on November 21, 2008 at 10:10 AM

A touching moment. Or at least, it would have been without those seven felony convictions.

Indeed, indeed.
