1. Franken. Looks less like an arrow than a leaky pen.
2. Accept. If not, why not test each ballot for DNA too?
3. Reject. Please. The guy was testing his pen.
4. Franken. Self-explanatory.
5. Lizard people. He X’ed out the Franken oval.
6. Franken. Although people quite this stupid shouldn’t vote.
7. Coleman. Guy changed his mind, or else started filling in the wrong oval.
8. Franken. Please. Either a pen test or a change of mind.
9. Barkley. Arguably an even feebler challenge than the one AmSpec highlighted yesterday.
10. Barkley. See #8 above.
11. Reject. Looks like he was crossing out Franken, not underlining it, but too hard to tell.

Too bad white out wasn’t handy.
RobCon on November 20, 2008 at 3:11 PM
Throw it out, it’s garbage!
The Frankenstein monster would be preferable to this tool.
Christine on November 20, 2008 at 3:12 PM
Clearly this voter was making the case that he knew who the two major candidates were and then to emphasis his vote for Franken he was attempting to underline Franken’s name.
Vote goes to Franken
Just A Grunt on November 20, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Lizard people FTW!
lorien1973 on November 20, 2008 at 3:15 PM
Is there really any question now that we have idiots entering the voting booth, and deciding who will be the next POTUS.
THEY. CAN’T. FILL. IN. AN. OVAL.
fogw on November 20, 2008 at 3:16 PM
My GOD these voters are f*cking stupid.
They should not be voting. If you can’t fill in a bubble next to a name with sufficient directions giving you explicit instructions as to how to FILL IN A FREAKIN BUBBLE, you should not be allowed to vote.

No hanging chads?
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on November 20, 2008 at 3:17 PM
Look I know it is cold in MN, but it sure looked like a lot of shaky hands were in the voting booth election day.
Just A Grunt on November 20, 2008 at 3:17 PM
Coleman.
The voter then drew a sperm through Franken’s name. Why? It’s Minnesota, his brain is cold.
PattyJ on November 20, 2008 at 3:17 PM
clearly BARKLEYS on top
rico101 on November 20, 2008 at 3:17 PM
I find the voting results on that website interesting.
If it’s a double vote for Franken, it’s a good vote for Franken. If it’s a double vote for Barkley, it’s an invalid ballot.
Skywise on November 20, 2008 at 3:19 PM
Lizard-face – could be either one (both are reptilian), but Lizard people – I don’t know.
#11 is a spermatozoan.

Lizard people are from Dracos; non-lizard people aren’t.
Vote accordingly.
lorien1973 on November 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM
I’d say Coleman since its marked correctly. The Franken entry is marked wrong.
johnnyU on November 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM
This ballot is from a schizophrenic ACORN voter, having a disagreement with himself.
Right_of_Attila on November 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM
The Lizard People thing has me giggling nearly uncontrollably. Next HOA election, I am so writing in Lizard People. Makes me think of Weevils from Torchwood.
/the giggles hurt but won’t stop
Anna on November 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM
Is it legal to have Lizard PEOPLE as Senator? I think a single lizard person would be more appropriate.
Doughboy on November 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM
I chose Lizard people, too but if you look at the other selection he puts an X through that vote for Lizard people as well (like the Franken one).
eforhan on November 20, 2008 at 3:24 PM
I would reject seven as well AP. While I agree that the person voting probably intended to vote for Coleman, the Franken mark is large enough in my view to make it unclear and so it should be rejected. Otherwise I agree with you on the rest.
NotCoach on November 20, 2008 at 3:24 PM
Oh come on AP. You can’t reject that last one.
jimmy the notable on November 20, 2008 at 3:24 PM
Is this part of Al Franken’s stand up routine? Allah are you punking us?
Dr Evil on November 20, 2008 at 3:24 PM
By the way, you morons out in the midwest need to get proper voting booths, with levers and such.
I live in New York and I never even saw my ballot.
jimmy the notable on November 20, 2008 at 3:25 PM
I’m just surprised we’re not seeing more of the candidates names circled, starred, hearted, or LOL’ed on the ballots.
Integrity has been removed from our voting process.
Grafted on November 20, 2008 at 3:25 PM
What – no ‘both’ for an answer? OK then, one vote for Coleman and two votes for Franken. It’s the only fair way to rule.
Vashta.Nerada on November 20, 2008 at 3:25 PM
I guess democrats in Minnesota are even dumber than democrats in Florida. Amazing.
HornetSting on November 20, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Lizard People would represent Minnesota better than Franken.
They’re less reptilian, for one.
BKennedy on November 20, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Lizard People?
WisCon on November 20, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Clearly several voters intended to vote for Francoleman.
fogw on November 20, 2008 at 3:27 PM
Hmmmm Looks like he crossed out his Frankstine vote.
Rick007 on November 20, 2008 at 3:27 PM
If two or more ovals are partially filled in, I’d reject it. To me the standard is “can the optical scanner recognize it”. If the scanner kicks it out as an overvote, then it’s an overvote. There is no Vulcan mind meld standard.
And I for one welcome our new Lizard People overlords.
Oh wait, they lost the election? Ha ha!
rbj on November 20, 2008 at 3:29 PM
What is wrong with these people? They should just have a list of names, and people would have to physically write in the name of the person they want to vote in. Sounds somewhat tedious, but apparently circling in the correct bubble, or pushing the right button is too over their heads.
Sir Corky on November 20, 2008 at 3:29 PM
How stupid are people? This can’t be made any freaking easier than it is. Fill. In. The. Oval.
amerpundit on November 20, 2008 at 3:29 PM
I for one welcome our new lizard overlords.
Rollie on November 20, 2008 at 3:30 PM
…the lizard people…are they like the village people?
HornetSting on November 20, 2008 at 3:30 PM
“Intent” is ridiculous in the extreme. It is simple…if you cannot follow directions, don’t vote. If you screw up, get a new ballot and shred the original. You do not mark the crap out of a ballot and pray that some faceless bureaucrat will be able discern your intentions. Pitch every. Single. Ballot. If a voter can’t plainly make their intentions known according to the rules, they do not get their vote counted. “Disenfranchisement” is a tool for ACORN and Democrats to scream about stolen elections.

jp on November 20, 2008 at 3:31 PM
Okay, I think the Lizard people are being disproportionately under represented…I’m just saying it’s because they’re Lizard people right…that is so racist or specist, urban dictionary.
specist
A person who is prejudiced to a certain species.
Dr Evil on November 20, 2008 at 3:31 PM
What really pisses me off is that in most of these ballots, they tell you right at the top fill in the oval, as if it wasn’t self explanatory enough already. People can’t even follow simplistic directions.
Sir Corky on November 20, 2008 at 3:32 PM
When something is totally obvious why do the dems fight it? It is totally obvious that the voter marked the idiot by mistake and x’it and voted for Coleman.
duff65 on November 20, 2008 at 3:32 PM
What did he say now? Was it about the Minnesota election?
Sir Corky on November 20, 2008 at 3:32 PM
I was under the impression that if you make a recognizable mark in more than one candidate’s name on a ballot, by definition it is an overvote, and the ballot should be rejected. I think this is an exercise to try and throw an election, or to show just how stupid voters are – I’m just not sure which at this point.

I know, I watched the how obama got elected video and thought it could be a fluke that they got that group together out of a random draw…but after this. The Lizard people might be evolving, while the American voter is devolving.
Dr Evil on November 20, 2008 at 3:34 PM
Hi I,m new so be gentle, I don’t know what kind of voting machines they have in Minn. but I worked the polls in the elections here in Az. and that ballot would have spit back out and the voter would have to redo it. If it was a mail in it would be rejected. I don’t know why they are trying to count this ballot now it is a spoiled ballot, now these spoiled ballots have be also turned into the election board. HHmmm strange.

Yeah but the arrow is pointing to Coleman. Why give it to Franken?
terryannonline on November 20, 2008 at 3:43 PM
Coleman and a drawing making the political statement that Franken is a waste of sperm.
highhopes on November 20, 2008 at 3:43 PM
So, the optical scan vote says Coleman wins.
But it is close, so now we are going to pull out all the moron votes and decide the winner. How many of these ballots would have gone to Coleman, and how many to Franken, via the optical scan? And how many would have been rejected by the scanner?
digitalintrigue on November 20, 2008 at 3:44 PM
Extraneous marks should disqualify the ballot, per what I understand of Minnesota law, therefore neither would get the vote.

Reptilian humanoids?
Xolom on November 20, 2008 at 3:56 PM
According to writer David Icke, reptilian humanoids are the force behind a worldwide conspiracy directed at manipulation and control of humanity. He contends that most of the world’s leaders are in fact related to 7-foot (2.1 m) tall, blood-drinking, reptilians from the star system Alpha Draconis, in the constellation Draco.
According to an interview with David Icke, Christine Fitzgerald claims that she was a confidante of Diana, Princess of Wales, and that Diana told her that the British Royal Family were reptilian aliens, and that they could shapeshift.[7] Icke also claims that many presidents of the United States have been and are reptilian humanoids. In his view, United States foreign policy after September 11 is the product of a reptilian conspiracy to enslave humanity, with George W. Bush as a servant of the reptilians.
Xolom on November 20, 2008 at 3:56 PM
I’d give the first one to Coleman.
Usually, when I vote, I like to mark the box for the candidate underneath the one I want to win, then put an arrow to the above candidate.
I tried that on the SAT, too. It didn’t work very well, but I appreciated the opportunity to showcase my individuality.
YYZ on November 20, 2008 at 3:57 PM

HornetSting on November 20, 2008 at 3:58 PM
1) Franken
2) Accept
3) Reject
4) Franken
5) Franken The mark in the upper section is similar to the Franken section. Sloppy marking of the ballot.
6) Reject….this moron certainly filled the other selections in properly.
7) Reject
8) Franken
9) Barkley
10) Barkley
11) Coleman
Lizard people. lol I love it!
csdeven on November 20, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Are these absentee ballots? If not why didn’t any of these brains ask for a new ballot?
Cindy Munford on November 20, 2008 at 4:00 PM
1. Franken. Looks like a leaky pen. If the voter wanted to change from Franken to Coleman, he or she should have asked for a new ballot.
2. Accept. The voter should not be disenfranchised for getting ink onhis hands.
3. Reject. Stray mark insufficient to demonstrate intent.
4. Franken. I think thigns like that should really be rejected as an overvote (ask for another ballot!), but the “no” demonstrates the voter intent. (well, “NO” might be the voter’s initials, in which case the ballot should be discarded, right?)
5. Franken. Lizard People was written in, but the oval was not filled. Besides, we’re supposed to welcome our insect overlords, not our lizard overlords.
6. Franken. The checkmark isn’t sufficient, but the circle is clear demonstration of intent.
7. Reject as an overvote. It’s probably meant to be Coleman, but there’s enough to question voter intent; it’s definitely more than just a dot. Should have asked for a new ballot.
8. Franken. Just a dot isn’t enough to question intent.
9. Barkley. Trying to erase a candidate from the ballot does NOT suggest a desire to vote for that candidate.
10. Barkley. The rest are just stray marks.
11. Reject as overvote. Can’t tell if the voter meant to underline Franken or cross out the name. A good example of the problem of “voter intent” standards.
malclave on November 20, 2008 at 4:01 PM
