Zawahiri gives Obama the Belafonte treatment

If you can imagine Ayman al-Zawahiri singing The Banana Boat Song, perhaps you’ll get an idea of the irony — and the insult — of his message today to Barack Obama. Zawahiri called Obama a “house slave”, which other translators changed to “house Negro”, in condemning Obama’s election. If that sounds familiar, it should:
Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama in a message posted Wednesday, describing the president-elect in demeaning terms that imply he does the bidding of whites.
The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama does not represent a change in U.S. policies. Ayman al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama is “the direct opposite of honorable black Americans” like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.
In al-Qaida’s first response to Obama’s victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect — along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — “house negroes.”
Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term “abeed al-beit,” which literally translates as “house slaves.” But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as “house negroes.”
Zawahiri channeled entertainer Harry Belafonte, who leveled the same slur against both Powell and Rice. After Powell publicly rebuked Belafonte for the insult, Belafonte hardly appeared contrite over it. In fact, he called Powell a “sell out”, using the same logic as Zawahiri uses here.
So what prompted this outburst? Well, the sun rose in the east, and the Caliphate remains a fevered fantasy, and that’s probably enough. Zawahiri objected to Obama’s plan to escalate the effort against al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Apparently, Zawahiri thinks Malcolm X wouldn’t do that, or profess alliance to Israel, which are both true, and both as pointless as Zawahiri himself, since Obama has never professed to be a disciple of Malcolm X anyway.
At the least, it shows that racism and profiling exist in far greater quantities outside the US than within it. Except for the occasional exceptions to the rule, of course, like Harry Belafonte.
Update (AP): The NEFA Foundation has the full transcript in PDF.

I didn’t vote for the Obama, and am not keen on his having been elected, but he’s going to be my president, and damned if I think that Zawahiri, that worthless sweatstain of a demon-worshipping demi-human, should be permitted to badmouth him like that. If President Obama brings us this guy’s head on a platter, he stands a shot at getting my vote for his re-election.

Good job, Z, you just did what neither Bush nor Obama could ever do … you got all Americans to takes sides in the war on terror … AGAINST YOU!
See the difference? When the enemy insults Bush, the Left agrees. When the enemy insults Obama, the Right says “Bomb his azz!”

But, but, John Kerry (who served in Viet Nam) said that Obama was one of them.

Going to be good reading on HuffPo and DU later. Wonder how a lefty reacts to this-they can’t show anger towards Al-Q, when we’re allegedly going all imperialist-style on them, and them being people of color, but they just called the One a house niggah!
Heads will explode over there today! This does not compute, says a leftist’s brain….
Whereas the right just wants Zwaha deader, faster. Hopefully this will spur some bloodlust in Obama.

I’m just waitng until they but a death sentence on Obama’s head for his renouncing of Islam as a child.
Many muslims believe if you were born a muslim like Obama was then you are always a muslim.
I wonder what Syria, Iran etc will do if a Fatwa comes out stating that?
I’m sure are Secret service is up to the job of Protecting him. It just is going to throw a major wrench into diplomactic efforts

On a related note, why do so many black kids have Arabic names? I watched the Kentucky-North Carolina hoops game last night and it was so refreshing because I didn’t hear one Arabic name, as opposed to most athletic events. Is that the black Muslim influence? Started with Cassius Clay, didn’t it?.

Personally I believe that it’s just a feint to make others think, even after they were all so appreciative of Obama’s election, they don’t want the public to think that Obama is one of them. Sorry, but I remember what they were saying before the election. They wanted Obama because he’ll stop the war on terror. They didn’t want McCain because they thought he’d be more hard-line then Bush was. They are just trying to swerve us, that’s all…

This attitude from AQ has always been there…
Its been interesting the last few years to watch the Rev Wrights, and National Oraganization of Women, tear down the very people who gave them equal rights in the first place…. all the while NOT saying a word about the real Racists out there.
But now they won’t have the Republican power structure to blame anymore. The AQ comments are now pointed at THEM
Democrats have used a divide and conquer tactic to get into power. Its now going to be interesting to see how they respond now that they have it.
Romeo13 on November 19, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Uh, it’s not a racial slur. The term is used to convey that someone is a sell-out. It’s no different than when Sean Hannity interviewed Sarah Palin in a very servile and grinning fashion.

No pallin’ around with this one, I guess. Z’s language is in keeping with the Deranged Left’s habit of denigrating self-hating race traitors (hence their heavy use of pejoratives such as house n-bomb, oreo, coconut, twinkie, et.al), and we now know that it also applies to self-hating apostates. This stinks of Gadahn.

I hear you, and agree. The difference between Obama and the others you mentioned (Condi and Powell) is that they 1) were appointed but someone the lefties hate, 2) didn’t run for office, and therefore didn’t have the opportunity to base their platform on not looking like the other guys on the dollar bills, and 3) never made race an issue. They were just good at their job. In my opinion, that’s the definition of a “post-racial” society.

It’s been a fad for decades. My youngest sister, born in the late seventies, has an Arabic given name.
Yes. Though most who have such names now aren’t Muslim. And most black Americans, Muslim or not, don’t know Islam’s horrific history with black Africans. My mother just started learning about it in the last few years and she sends me stuff constantly. She is furious at herself for being fooled. (She and my step-dad are Republicans, too.)
Arguable, since he change his name in the sixties due to an actual conversion. The seventies started the fad in earnest.

Your contributions to threads are so welcome in that you provide the knowledge background of a world beyond our own borders that we need so desperately.
Orianna Fallaci noted in several of her books about the rise in Muslim hegemony that the process actually began in during the late ’60’s/early ’70’s at the time of the anti-Viet Nam protests. The rise in Black Muslim numbers in America was occurring under the radar at the same time. She described the connections between Communism and aggressive Islam that were being forged as a matter of political convenience. Their shared goals of the destruction of Western culture and economics grew during this period of unrest and has never really disappeared.

“Win the Battle of Ideas: An Obama Administration will defeat al Qaeda in what the 9-11 Commission called “the Battle of Ideas” by returning to an American foreign policy consistent with America’s traditional values and by working with moderates within the Islamic world to counter al Qaeda propaganda. Barack Obama will establish a $2 billion Global Education Fund to work to eliminate the global education deficit and offer an alternative to extremist schools.”
Crystald on November 19, 2008 at 2:17 PM
You got it. Though your irrational hate is a little wierd. It’s “refreshing” to not have to hear Arabic names? What is that about. Did Arabic names do something to you? Over the top man.
But again this is just one of those many divides between white and (urban) black America. Black Muslim groups do alot of community service within African American communities. Many felons who turn their life around in prison do so by joining the Nation of Islam. Sure Louis Farrakhan’s an anti-semitic jerk, but as an organisation the NOI does alot of good in the kinds of neighborhoods most on this board wouldn’t set foot in.
This is also why Al-Qaeda is deathly afraid of the Obama Presidency. The battle of ideas isn’t just some thing wussy college professors think about, it’s a battle Al-Qaeda has been waging in the Arab world over the last decade. Bush is a powerful propaganda tool for Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda also talks about American racism and inequality as part of their message. When the American people who supposedly “hate” Muslims vote for a guy with Hussein as a middle name and who has brown skin it sends a torpedo into that Al-Qaeda propaganda machine.
Remember Al-Qaeda is CRAZY. They want nothing more than to bring about Armageddon. With a President who’s not as committed to war in the middle east. If Obama improves relations with the Arab world in general it undercuts their ability to propagandize
