why is it that education has gone south in the last 50 or 60 years? it seems to me that the more we do the less ecucated the students become. why is it that a large group of parents want school choice? and at the same time
people on the left do not want to even discuss the chance taht the schools in the u.s. are not effective. why is it that home school children do better on standard test than kids in the piblic school system. why is that people who send thier children to private schools see better results.

This is sad — the administrators at Queen’s have obviously read 1984 and treated it as an instructional manual rather than a dystopic nightmare

What? Like the liberals in America haven't done the same thing?

I’m trying to locate wealthy Conservatives, like S. Truett Cathy of Chik-Fil-A, to fund a free, private middle and high school that will educate children following conservative principles and a traditional view of America.

Anyone know anyone who might be interested in countering public education?

Some of us are already working on it, DerKrieger. We call it homeschooling.

11 out 0f 13 wrong about Canadas political structure. You have the average American education, congratulations.

Are you a Muslim?

Ahem, I am a recovering Canadian, and am now a proud pistol packing American citizen. Education… Canada’s public school’s finest.

The Prime Minister is appointed by the Queen. The Queen often consults Parliament as to who they would like to see as PM, and tradition dictates that this person be the leader of the dominant party. This is only a tradition and is not codified in any Canadian law. The PM serves at the pleasure of the Queen. I know this is a bitter pill for Canucks to swallow but it is true.

When Canadians go to the election booth, the only federal position they vote on is for their MP (Congressman). The PM does not appear on the ballot. So before any Canadians insult any Americans over perceived value of their respective educations, show me a ballot with the PM on it.

No ballot, no democracy.

BTW, wrong on 11 of 13? BS, it’s all absolutely true and you are shocked as to how ignorant you actually are.

What needs to happen for this to stop,, is a vast majority of students openly using "unlawful speech." When they have to arrest half or more of their student body,, because of protesting students,, that is when it will come to an end. As long as the sheep keep bending over,, nothing will change.

Here’s your latest mantra; embrace it “pirates are not terrorists; they’re just poor opportunists, taking from those who have too much”. Fate has brung you a good one. Make hay of it, while you can.
Schadenfreude on November 19, 2008 at 4:54 PM

Would Ragnar agree?
Perhaps.
Is it terrorism if you make the people in the smoke filled rooms.... behind the closed doors.... that line the halls of power... to fear, not death or pain from the pirate, but that the pirate / terrorist may not allow them to possess those things with which they bargain for their own power and wealth.

There are pirates; there are Pirates. And some are called, (and call themselves) pirates, who actually only keep the Looters from looting the ones that innovate, work and earn.

I'm pretty sure the ranks of those sort of Pirates are, in the very near future, going to swell to much greater numbers than those off the coast of Africa or on Wall Street.

Only now does the terrible possibility occur to me: Dude, am I O’Brien?

That, AP, you will never know. If we choose to set you free when we have finished with you, and if you live to be ninety years old, still you will never learn whether the answer to that question is Yes or No. As long as you live it will be an unsolved riddle in your mind.

Students at Queen’s University who sprinkle their dialogue with an assortment of “homo” or “retarded” could find out the hard way that not everyone finds their remarks acceptable.

I went to Queen's for my MD and moved to the Lone Star State 30 years ago to avoid the national health system.

What is sad to me to see is that Queen's was always one of the more conservative universities in Canada. It appears that they have gone over to the dark side.

I just pledged my annual support to them for 2008. I received the letter to send the check in with. I guess I'll just copy APs higlighted section and tell them to stick it. No More Money from me.

Does FIRE take cases from Canada?

Free speech is not enshrined in Canada, as it is the states. Here, even comedians can be brought before Human Rights tribunals. Having a website that speaks poorly of islam, for example, like jihadwatch, is a crime in Canada. Canadian liberals codified a carte blanch legislation years ago that basically says that if someone, and they will determine who that is, has said something derogatory about race, color, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation that person has committed a crime against the state. They call it "promoting hatred" against an "identifiable group". In other words, hate is now a crime in Canada if expressed. It is such a insanely nebulous idea, even more vague in its definition, that to use it in a legal sense blasphemes all we understand about criminal jurisprudence. But by making it so nebulous, that can apply it whenever, and wherever, they desire.

They call it “promoting hatred” against an “identifiable group”.

Someone should tell these homos that they're being retarded Nazis and advise them to lay off the black coffee. For God's sake, and for the greater good of mankind, before they develop chinks in their armor of credibility.

The fundamental flaw of Canada is that it never has been a democratic nation, and is absent any meaningful Constitution. Compare and contrast the USA with the Dominion of Canada,

Canada,

Head of State - Queen of Canada - Unelected Foreigner
Head of Government - Gov Gen - Unelected Foreigner
Chief Executive - Prime Minister - Unelected – Appointed by the Queen
Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces - Queen of Canada - Unelected Foreigner
Federal Senate – Senator - Unelected - Appointed by the Queen
House - MP – Directly and democratically elected
Head of State Provincial - Lieutenant Governor - Appointed by the Queen
Chief Executive Provincial - Premier - Appointed by the Queen
Provincial Senate - Senator - Appointed by the Queen
Provincial House - MPP - Directly and democratically elected
Inalienable Rights of Citizenry - Non-existent – Only the Queen fully and Titled nobles enjoy most of these rights.
Private Property (Real Property) – Only Titled nobles may actually hold land titles.
Power Flow God - Queen (Sovereign) – Government - People

USA

Head of State - President – Elected

So you're fine with this? It doesn't represent any kind of trend at all? The fact that so many American leftists point to Canada as an example is irrelevant and unrelated?

Canada scares the crap out of me.
Once I read a book called "THEM: Adventures with Extremists." One chapter was about a British man named David Icke. This guy is totally convinced that Earth is being taken over by extraterrestrial, shape-shifting lizards in human form, which include George W. Bush [*gasp*], Princess Diana, and Boxcar Willie. He lives in Canada now, where is is constantly harassed and many of his books are banned. Why? Because he is crazy? No. Evidently, according to the Canadian Politburo, "reptilian humanoid" is the new code-word for "Jew."
I don't believe in "reptilian humanoids" but I'll stand up for his rights just as much as I would for mine. These people looking under rocks for racism are just as crazy and paranoid as David Icke.
