I totally understood where you were going with that, but sheesh had point as well. That all said, I agree that people with special needs are very inspiring in the workplace and can serve as a reminder to keep things in perspective.

The workplace, however, is NOT a playground for social experimentation. If someone has assets that can be utilized by a potential employer, GREAT. Mandated government intervention into private enterprise is definitely not welcomed, with the usual caveats of course.

With all due respect, come up with a better view. I know you mean well, but good intentions are not always enough. They do not lessen the pain in the heart a parent feels when they hear a statement like that.

I worked with a law clerk a few years back who was legally blind. She had to read with a huge magnifying thingy and her face just about touching the paper – didn’t stop her, though. She came from a large family with a lot of brothers and they never gave her a pass on anything. She talked about playing football with them – every once in a while the ball would hit her and the boys shrugged, “you can move faster than that – pay attention!”

Very cool chick. I assume she’s a lawyer now, but I liked her anyway.

YES!!! This is real life and welcome to it.

I have a view that offends most who hear it because they do not THINK they just react. My statement is “Hire the Handicapped They are fun to Watch”. Before crucifying me THINK.

Watching a person with a disability succeed at what are routine tasks for able bodied persons is ‘fun’. Because I am always amazed at the innovation and creativity a person with a disability shows when they succeed at these tasks without any apparent level of frustration or sense of giving up just because it takes a little more effort.

This young lady clearly shows she has the ability to overcome any situation that would send a normal person into a hissy fit or just plain giving up without a fight.

As a parent of a disabled child, these stories sustain me. Funny thing I’ve noticed is that the “normal” people are usually more disfunctional than the kids with disabilities.

I’m gonna be honest, I had to read this post a few times before I realized it said “play-by-play” man…I kept wondering who “play man” was and what sort of play he would have to successfully pull off in order for all things to be possible.
