She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

The Dean on November 18, 2008 at 6:48 PM

An uncharacteristically heartwarming post from the AllahPundit. Who has softened your heart of steel? Palin? Michelle? KP? Ed?

D0WNT0WN on November 18, 2008 at 6:50 PM

Totally Awesome!

D2Boston on November 18, 2008 at 6:51 PM

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

The Dean on November 18, 2008 at 6:48 PM

Not really. How would she know which team to cheat for.

It’s obvious that her upbringing has given her the best opportunities for her like regardless of her handicaps.

The world needs more dads like that.

yomomma on November 18, 2008 at 6:52 PM

“life”, not “like”. My bad.

yomomma on November 18, 2008 at 6:53 PM

Awesome. Allahpundit, trying to make me cry…

Theworldisnotenough on November 18, 2008 at 6:53 PM

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

The Dean on November 18, 2008 at 6:48 PM

We have a winner! I think she was on the field during SuperBowl XL.

Mallard T. Drake on November 18, 2008 at 6:55 PM

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

The Dean on November 18, 2008 at 6:48 PM

Best comment of the day.

portlandon on November 18, 2008 at 6:55 PM

Nice story.

Good palate cleanser.

Religious_Zealot on November 18, 2008 at 6:55 PM

Allah is setting us up for some major downer.

Stay negative so we won’t be disappointed.

mylegsareswollen on November 18, 2008 at 6:55 PM

It’s ok… some of the Ref’s seem to be blind, too.

Mazztek on November 18, 2008 at 6:57 PM

Obama voter to be…the blind leading the blind

John The Baptist on November 18, 2008 at 7:02 PM

A strong positive story and comments fall to the level of blind leading blind status…. must be pretty pure air you few folks breathe that make you so “funny” ……seriously, just once can’t someone resist poisoning a thread by using that jack ass Obama’s name?

MNDavenotPC on November 18, 2008 at 7:10 PM

I say put here on ESPN’s MNF in place of that blowhard Kornheiser.

m064404 on November 18, 2008 at 7:16 PM

She’s awesome. What a great attitude.

Mojave Mark on November 18, 2008 at 7:18 PM

It’s so nice to see a handicapped person not blaming everyone else for not being able to function in society and actually getting out there and proving to us all that no matter what, being handicapped can be overcome most of the time. Her dad is wonderful for not letting her sit around and feel sorry for herself.
I’m wondering how long it will be before some organization is going to claim she’s being maniuplated or whatever.
Refreshing. Thank you.

SuperManGreenLantern on November 18, 2008 at 7:18 PM

I say put her on ESPN’s MNF in place of that blowhard Kornheiser.

Corrected. Usually I don’t misspell, won’t let it happen again.

m064404 on November 18, 2008 at 7:19 PM

Pretty cool story, thanks!

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

– Dean

Hahaha! That reminds me of the hockey movie “Youngblood”. After a bad call the coach tells the ref to try on his glasses and says “Oh, LOOK! ICE! Look at that! A blue line!” haha

Tony737 on November 18, 2008 at 7:29 PM

She’s a winner and her father should be proud.

Geronimo on November 18, 2008 at 7:29 PM

Well done AP…an inspiring and kewl end to an otherwise craptacular day.

I now depart for my night job as enforcer of Hapy Hour.

Mike D. on November 18, 2008 at 7:34 PM

kewl

davidk on November 18, 2008 at 7:36 PM

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

I think she might already be one in the Big 10…

righteouschops on November 18, 2008 at 7:37 PM

Mike D. on November 18, 2008 at 7:34 PM

Godspeed Mike D. Godspeed.

Geronimo on November 18, 2008 at 7:38 PM

She beats ESPN commentators by a mile!

What a great story.

She’s qualified to be an NFL referee.

heh

JetBoy on November 18, 2008 at 7:38 PM

She is definitely better than Olberdouche ever was or will be.

csdeven on November 18, 2008 at 7:41 PM

That’s cool. Unusual, to be sure, but cool. She can’t be worse then most commentators.

Spirit of 1776 on November 18, 2008 at 7:43 PM

They remind me of team Hoyt.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 18, 2008 at 7:47 PM

Sure puts some real perspective on live.
BRAVO ZULU.

HotAirJosef on November 18, 2008 at 8:10 PM

Good one Allah. Well done.

May God Bless them.

Zorro on November 18, 2008 at 8:13 PM

She is wicked kewl!!…: o ) (quote from one of my kids)…my kids soooo ROCK!

christene on November 18, 2008 at 8:25 PM

The Dean on November 18, 2008 at 6:48 PM

Winnar!

She is an inspiration.

Tim Burton on November 18, 2008 at 8:43 PM

First Down Birdville HAWKS!!

Passion, baby!

Elizabetty on November 18, 2008 at 8:54 PM

In a year or two Allah can ask her out on a date. She can retain his anonimity.

SouthernGent on November 18, 2008 at 9:10 PM

What a great duo and a permanent bond for them. My dad was paralyzed when I was six, came out of two years rehab and started his marine salvage business back up. Since that was the sixties, I was his “legs”. Best time ever, lots of good memories.

Cindy Munford on November 18, 2008 at 9:18 PM

So if she’s the color commentator she doesn’t have to actually talk about the game. She can talk about the groin injuries and arrest records and personal tragedies of the players just like big league color commentators do. She can memorize that stuff.

I think she’s got a long career ahead of her.

rihar on November 18, 2008 at 9:22 PM

It’s nice to see a young kid with a positive attitude, even with her disability. Too bad so many take for granted what she can’t appreciate.

Sir Corky on November 18, 2008 at 9:39 PM

heh, I bet she’d be a better quarterback than Donovan McNabb…at least she seems to understand that there is only one overtime in NFL play.

dglenn on November 18, 2008 at 9:41 PM

But, on a more serious note, I think it’s great that there are still people who are willing to overcome such adversities in order to do something like that, and still have a great attitude about it. Basically I agree with the post by

Sir Corky on November 18, 2008 at 9:39 PM

dglenn on November 18, 2008 at 9:44 PM

I’m gonna be honest, I had to read this post a few times before I realized it said “play-by-play” man…I kept wondering who “play man” was and what sort of play he would have to successfully pull off in order for all things to be possible.

Is it possible to get drunk and not even realize you did so? Esp. odd considering I don’t drink.

TheBlueSite on November 18, 2008 at 9:52 PM

Wonderful! Absolutely amazing. And she doesn’t let that stop her. That is tremendous. Thanks for a enlightening story!

sheebe on November 18, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Funniest post I’ve seen in a while, Dean.

espnjunkie on November 18, 2008 at 10:22 PM

Now *that* is a sports fan.

BTW, Allah envoking the name of the Big Guy?

Indeed, all things are possible ; )

The Ugly American on November 18, 2008 at 10:25 PM

Awesome.
It is amazing what people can do against all odds, and how some able bodied people are just fn negative losers.

That story and movie “Door to Door” comes to mind.

TheSitRep on November 18, 2008 at 10:26 PM

envoking = invoking

I always do that.

The Ugly American on November 18, 2008 at 10:29 PM

God bless her — she’s an inspiration :)

A liberal would wish that a girl like her were aborted.

MedSchoolCatholic on November 18, 2008 at 11:45 PM

The best of the human spirit in action.

Hog Wild on November 18, 2008 at 11:50 PM

The most amazing aspect of this is that something worthwhile came from MSNBC.

RightTurnOnly on November 19, 2008 at 12:39 AM

Well let’s just hope she doesn’t turn a blind eye to any cheating.

uptight on November 19, 2008 at 3:17 AM

This young lady is goes to prove, nothing can stand in your way if you refuse to let it!
As for PMSNBC, even a blind squirrel find a nut sometimes, no pun intended.

nelsonknows on November 19, 2008 at 6:00 AM

good story, as a father I am sap for these things.

rob verdi on November 19, 2008 at 6:05 AM

She’s a better man than I am.

darkpixel on November 19, 2008 at 6:14 AM

As a parent of a disabled child, these stories sustain me. Funny thing I’ve noticed is that the “normal” people are usually more disfunctional than the kids with disabilities.

sheesh on November 19, 2008 at 8:29 AM

YES!!! This is real life and welcome to it.

I have a view that offends most who hear it because they do not THINK they just react. My statement is “Hire the Handicapped They are fun to Watch”. Before crucifying me THINK.

Watching a person with a disability succeed at what are routine tasks for able bodied persons is ‘fun’. Because I am always amazed at the innovation and creativity a person with a disability shows when they succeed at these tasks without any apparent level of frustration or sense of giving up just because it takes a little more effort.

This young lady clearly shows she has the ability to overcome any situation that would send a normal person into a hissy fit or just plain giving up without a fight.

MSGTAS on November 19, 2008 at 9:19 AM

She’s not a victim and she’s not a whiner unlike so many sighted people.
See what good parenting can do?!

Amendment X on November 19, 2008 at 9:44 AM

Was she at the Steelers game on Sunday?

BiasedGirl on November 19, 2008 at 10:33 AM

THANKS !!

pambi on November 19, 2008 at 12:38 PM

I worked with a law clerk a few years back who was legally blind. She had to read with a huge magnifying thingy and her face just about touching the paper – didn’t stop her, though. She came from a large family with a lot of brothers and they never gave her a pass on anything. She talked about playing football with them – every once in a while the ball would hit her and the boys shrugged, “you can move faster than that – pay attention!”

Very cool chick. I assume she’s a lawyer now, but I liked her anyway.

MSGTAS on November 19, 2008 at 9:19 AM

With all due respect, come up with a better view. I know you mean well, but good intentions are not always enough. They do not lessen the pain in the heart a parent feels when they hear a statement like that.

sheesh on November 19, 2008 at 1:23 PM

MSGTAS on November 19, 2008 at 9:19 AM

I totally understood where you were going with that, but sheesh had point as well. That all said, I agree that people with special needs are very inspiring in the workplace and can serve as a reminder to keep things in perspective.

The workplace, however, is NOT a playground for social experimentation. If someone has assets that can be utilized by a potential employer, GREAT. Mandated government intervention into private enterprise is definitely not welcomed, with the usual caveats of course.

Allahpundit, great find! :D
