New Huckabee book rips Mitt, Fred, evangelical leaders, pretty much everyone; Update: Romney camp fires back

A desperately needed fix of campaign drama during this post-election interregnum detox. Just give me a little hit of score-settling to get me through the day, bro. Just one hit.
Ah, that’s the stuff:
Mitt Romney, Huckabee’s principal rival in Iowa, comes in for the roughest treatment. Huckabee writes that the former Massachusetts governor’s record was “anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.” He notes that Romney declined to make a phone call of congratulations after Huckabee beat the oddsmakers to win the Iowa caucuses, “which we took as a sign of total disrespect.” He mocks Romney for suggesting, during one debate, more investment in high-yield stocks as a solution to economic woes. “Let them eat stocks!” Huckabee jokes…
He calls out Pat Robertson, the Virginia-based televangelist, and Dr. Bob Jones III, chancellor of Bob Jones University in South Carolina, for endorsing Rudy Giuliani and Romney, respectively. He also has words for the Texas-based Rev. John Hagee, who endorsed the more moderate John McCain in the primaries, as someone who was drawn to the eventual Republican nominee because of the lure of power. Huckabee speaks to Hagee by phone before the McCain endorsement, while the former Arkansas governor is preparing for a spot on Saturday Night Live. “I asked if he had prayed about this and believed this was what the Lord wanted him to do,” Huckabee writes of his conversation with Hagee. “I didn’t get a straight answer.” Months later, McCain rejected Hagee’s endorsement because of controversial remarks the pastor had made about biblical interpretations.
In a chapter titled “Faux-Cons: Worse than Liberalism,” Huckabee identifies what he calls the “real threat” to the Republican Party: “libertarianism masked as conservatism.” He is not so much concerned with the libertarian candidate Ron Paul’s Republican supporters as he is with a strain of mainstream fiscal conservative thought that demands ideological purity, seeing any tax increase as apostasy and leaving little room for government-driven solutions to people’s problems.
Kudos to Time for a choice selection of representative quotes: Waging low-grade class warfare by sneering at Romney’s wealth and appealing to evangelicals to vote along religious lines is Huck to a T. As is the bit about “government-driven solutions,” of course — this is a guy who once endorsed a federal ban on smoking in workplaces, remember — although that’s qualified by the fact that he’s been a loud and, for most conservatives, righteous opponent of the bailout. Whether that’s because he knows an unpopular issue when he sees one or because an extraordinary intervention in extraordinary circumstances crossed some sort of statist threshold in his mind that ordinary interventions in ordinary circumstances wouldn’t, only he knows. We’ll learn more circa 2010, I imagine.
InstaGlenn will interview him later this week; I eagerly await their exchange on the merits of libertarianism. Exit question: In a Huck/Palin primary showdown, who escapes with the lion’s share of the Christian vote? Don’t answer too hastily. Guilt is, potentially, a factor here.
Update: Another hit on the drama pipe. Mmmmm yeah.
Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.
“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

How come all you Huckabee supporters never talk about how his positions would work. All you do is bash whoever his opponents are. Yes, Romney may not be a conservative. However, that doesn’t mean Huck is one. He’s a big-government Republican. The problem with the party right now is that we’ve got a bunch of politician’s who think the government can solve people’s problems. Conservatism, at its core, rejects that notion. Reagan said government is not the solution, government is the problem.
I just don’t get how people can think the government can fix things. What has the government ever done that makes you think you can trust it with more?
We’ve just had 8 years of a big government Republican. We don’t need any more.

Mike is right.
The reason we lost is McCain ….not Palin …. and Romney not Huckabee.
Pat, Hagee etc all sold their soul thinking there was no way Huck could be Hillary—and that Obama never stood a chanch. Ha! And look at all the damage they did. Had they supported Fred or Huck things would have been VERY very different.

Never could stomach Huckabee. He’s like Monty Hall or something. What’s Fox thinking with him on there? I really don’t like to be mean, but since he seems to be mean in his book, I have to say it…. His wife looks like Ma Kettle. Don’t buy the book. We have to think positive and look forward to the future not the dimwits from the past. Say Goodnight Huckabee and McCain. By the way… what’s with McCain and Goober Graham? Makes my skin crawl of those two inseparable – ewwwwwww.

Sarah is now temporarily away from the political scene and Act 3; now we go back Act 1. What better result could Sarah have gotten from not spending a dime and having two of her main rivals take themselves out of contention for 2012. Divide and conquer extraordinaire-especially when you had no part in it.

Huck reminds me that there was actually at least one candidate in the Republican primary season that I liked even less than McCain. And you have to be pretty bad to pull that off.

Seeing McCain sitting next to BO, and hearing about their bi-partisanship efforts going forward, made me happy for the first time that McCain lost!
These people never go away, just like the Clintons. McCain should be asahmed of himself, still pandering with Grahamnesty.

Lets face it . ALL of the guys that sought for the Presidential nomination sucked greatly in at least one major way. A few of them in more than one way.
And pretty much all of them would have had to use a ladder to reach an overall conservative sort of mediocrity. Only three of them were particularly good at even one or two things.
Only if you were able to take all of just the best attributes of all of them and blended it into one person, we might have gotten someone who could have won, and been a good President.

That’s it.
There are no ideal candidates for the GOP.
So we must build one.
Let’s use Obama’s pending embryonic stem-cell funding against him. Clone Zombie Reagan. Graft in the best genetic attributes of the 2008 crowd: Huck’s comic timing, Mitt’s hair, Fred’s wit, Rudy’s fashion sense, Tancredo’s immigration sensibilities, McCain’s…um…

Exit Question: Palin
Even if Evangelicals/Christians were having a ‘dilemma’ about who to vote for in regards to those two…Huck just sealed his own fate. How does he defend (to Christians) writing a book in which he throws everyone under the bus; and doing so, with a rich buttery delight that would make even Aunt Jemima jealous?
Thus far, Palin hasn’t gone the way of bitterness and retribution, and for her ACTIONS, she’ll take the vote-easily.

All of them were divisive in one way or another. None of them could have overcome the double whammy of being the post W. Republican candidate along with the collapse of the economy in mid-September.
Why are we still talking about all of this? Mike now has a TV program on the same network as Geraldo. He seems to be happy with that. Meanwhile, Obama is saddled with a fiscal crisis that Hercules could not work his way out of. Everything seems to be pretty much as it should be. I’m content to leave it at that. When is the Faux Huckabee gonna learn to just shut up???!!!
Huckabee brings conservative values to a whole new level of hypocrisy, especially considering that he is an ordained minister!!!! Let us check out some of those wonderful Christian values you’ve got, Huckabee!!!
http://www.irdial.com/blogdial/?p=909
Excerpts:
“A man with a mature faith in Jesus Christ? It’s easy to make this claim, but it’s difficult to speak against it, so I won’t. The only way to know with certainty whether a brother has a “mature faith in Jesus Christ” is not to listen to their words, nor to even look at their actions, but to examine their fruit. Along this line, I would ask why Huckabee’s son David was accused of hanging a dog, slitting its throat and then stoning it to death?”
“Why did the Arkansas Ethics Commission officially reprimand him for violations five times in 14 years?”
“Huckabee is a member of a music band called “Capitol Offense.” It’s not a gospel music band, either. It is a cover band with a set list including songs such as “Born to be wild,” the highly sexually charged “Devil with a Blue Dress,” “Freebird”, “Honky Tonk Woman”, and other similarly ungodly songs. Go read the lyrics to Honky Tonk Woman (it’s offensive) and imagine the pastor of your church singing that song. If a leader in my church formed a band to play that kind of music, I would call that a very serious problem. And we call him a man of character? On the campaign trail and in debates, Huckabee frequently makes mention of his theological training and his status as an ordained minister. Jesus told us to beware of hypocrites who stand in street corners (feigning spirituality) wanting to be seen of men. We are told to go into our closet and close the door when we pray, so the Father can see us in secret. Why is Huckabee so vocal about his faith and his theological ordination? The only reason I can think of is that he’s doing it for political gains.”
Huckabee, considering your behavior, you’ve got colossal gall questioning other candidates’ values???!!! I suggest you take a good long look in the mirror!!!!!!!

“….I just Heard that Orly Taitz, who is representing Keys in some way, is looking for a copy of the taped debate between Keys and the Bama. “Somebody from Chicago just contacted her and stated that during the Senatorial campaign there was a debate between Barack Obama and Dr. Keyes. This debate was videotaped. During the debate Dr. Keyes has stated :’You are not even a Natural born citizen’ to which Barack Obama replied: ‘That’s OK, I am not running for president, I am only running for Senate.’” Phew. Yet another tape to wish for?…”
Anyone think this has legs?? This is re: California lawsuit from Keyes. The Jersey lawsuit that will be heard by Clarence Thomas says BO Jr was born a British citizen because his Dad was Kenyan (under British dominion). US Constitution President has to be born “natural born citizen” and only those citizens in America at time of signing of Constitution can be “grandfathered” in as such.
If BO disqualified before inauguration, McCain-Palin are in…if after Biden-Pelosi are in (sounds bad.)

I’ve been watching Huckabee on Fox News. He never misses an opportunity to bash Palin or Romney, often subtly with snarky little comments.

No. I’m dead serious. Republicans like Romney, Thompson, and Rush Limbo are what’s wrong with America today. These phonies painting solid Christians Conservatives as evil was just too much too take. You’re right. Huck should’ve smacked em harder!! Political whores. Paid liars.
Yeah, he’s gone light on them. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin and other talk radio hosts… rewind the tape. They sabotaged Governor Huckabee during the Republican primaries. They are largely responsible for much of the false information put out about Huck. For instance, remember when Rush quoted an anonymous (not verified) “source” from the Huckabee campaign who…, well, that Rush said criticized him. Of course, Limbaugh refused to name the culprit and blamed it on Mike instead, which was cruel and unfair. The same thing happened to Sarah Palin. Anonymous sources were attacking her which turned out to be false.
I agree. He probably thinks he’ll need them next time around. I personally believe that Sean Hannity knows in his heart that he made a mistake. Y’know, for years these talk radio hosts have been complaining they want family values back and an America following the Constitution. Well, they had a candidate in Mike Huckabee who could have done that for them. What did they do? That Republican elite firing squad formed a circle around him and shot! But, the sad thing about all of this is it didn’t hurt Mike as much as it hurt everyday Americans who need a President who will deal with their needs and not only Wall Streets and the Insiders. I say Huck’s doing just fine. We need more real conservatives like him on television. We’ve had enough of these other phonies.

Wow! Some one else on here with wisdom and a back bone!
Sadly, the minority over all here.
Hot Air is great for finding information and getting a idea of where the neo-cons are, but it can be depressing at times to be a true social and fiscal , small govt. conservative here.

She’s sitting quietly and elegantly like the lady she is in Alaska…Rush said she owned the Miami Repub Gov meeting and press conference last week…that’s why they cut her short…what will she say or do next?? What a woman. I hope she’s named Time Magazine Person of the Year…wouldn’t that be fun?? Ya, I know they have named some really questionable characters in the past…but they were influential.

I just wonder, how many of you have actually read the book? Last I heard, it wouldn’t be available till tomorrow so I am guessing none of you have actually read it for yourselves. You are just drinking the kool-aid of others, Liberals no less.

What book, jparks1972?

I hear that after the election Barack Obama sent Huckabee’s grotesquely hypertrophied ego a bunch of flowers.
You know – just to say thank you for splitting Romney’s vote and thus allowing a liberal no-hoper like McCain to run against him.
Cheers mike.
If you feel like shooting the Republican Party in the foot in 2012, I’m sure Barack will be equally happy.
fecking moron

The way back…
Wow. Reagan, from the grave, predicted McCain’s defeat 30 years ago.

Maybe you’d be more comfortable back at Huck’s Army’s forum. You can sit in an echo chamber and here regurgitated pablum about how its fiscally conservative to raise taxes and how start public projects like superhighways all along the coast of the U.S. to provide jobs. Then you can have a big meeting in a Holiday Inn Express so you can be official foreign policy experts.
thecountofincognito on November 17, 2008 at 8:29 PM
And Reagan could have predicted Obama’s victory. Wow.

Mike Huckabee isn’t sure if the Earth was created in 6 days, 6,000 years ago.

Abort mission! The Huckabots are too well entrenched in Fort Fantasyland! We will never smoke them out of their holes!
Wait…perhaps we can lure them out with the scent of fried squirrel?
thecountofincognito on November 17, 2008 at 8:41 PM
