Video: Terrorist says good morning to America

“We never committed terror,” he assures us, noting that (a) the Weathermen didn’t kill anyone, which is true if you exclude the occasional cop or two (a point Chris Cuomo doesn’t raise) and (b) even though what they did “was definitely over lots of lines,” it doesn’t really qualify as terror because the war simply had to be stopped and they were acting to that end. As he says in “Fugitive Days”:
Terrorists terrorize, they kill innocent civilians, while we organized and agitated. Terrorists destroy randomly, while our actions bore, we hoped, the precise stamp of a cut diamond. Terrorists intimidate, while we aimed only to educate.
Their intentions were good, you see. Which, in fairness to Ayers, is indeed the crux of why so many leftists are angrier at Palin for bringing him up on the trail than at Obama for gladhanding him in the first place. The Underground meant well, quite unlike those nasty jihadis and abortion-clinic bombers, whom Cuomo, to his credit, does bring up. The quote, incidentally, comes from Timothy Noah’s 2001 review of the book, which is worth reading for many reasons but foremost for his reclamation of a few Ayers blasts from the past that somehow didn’t end up in the final manuscript. Like this one, circa 1970: “Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that’s where it’s really at.” Thirty-one years later, he famously told the Times, “I don’t regret setting bombs.” The man is, if nothing else, consistent. Bear those two lines in mind as you watch him wheeze about how “dishonest” it is for people to try to demonize him and his old comrades.
It’s in two parts; click the image to watch the first clip, then select the second from the bottom of the ABC interface when you’re done. The question about being a “friend” of our next president comes up front. Contain your surprise as he tries to downplay that too, insisting that he was merely describing how bloggers — and of course Mayor Daley — have characterized the relationship.

I cannot fathom why people cannot understand what this guy is, and why it matters that the POTUS shares his views about America. I know that most police agencies would not hire anyone who spent time with a person who had committed crimes against the United States, convicted or not. Yet, one of his friends and associates is now the president elect.
It is truly becoming a strange world, or am I just getting old?

Anyone who meets this guy and doesn’t take a baseball bat to his junk is almost as bad as he is, in my opinion.

I have found it rare that people that are really talented in Math and Science are gifted in communicating their knowledge to others. Do you think that is true? Even kids who are good at it have trouble with peer tutoring because the don’t understand how or why they “get it”. Anyway, that’s been my experience.

Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 12:32 PM
I don’t subscribe to that view. The best math and science teachers are people who understand the material. It is true that not everyone has the same ability to communicate their knowledge to the students, but the knowledge must be there to begin with.
My personal experience is that those who know the most about their subjects tend to teach the best (except for those who don’t like teaching and are only forced to do it, as happens with many professors – to jump to the university level, for a second, since that is where forced teaching takes place).

Soooo…..since when does admitting to the crime allow you to walk away without jail time or a fine or…?
Does our legal system allow a crook (terrorist in this case) to commit a crime, go to court and get off on a technicality, then come out and then admit to doing the crime and get away with it??? I thought any murder-type crimes (he attempted to commit murder with his bombings) never had a time limit.
(Can OJ Simpson now admit he did the murders and get away with it?)
albill on November 14, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Ayers and the Weathermen Undeground were, of course, not just opposed to the Vietnam War. They were, as they admit in their writings, revolutionary Marxists who wished to overthrow the government of the United States and put into place a Marxist regime.
Under such a regime, more than just a few eggs would be broken.
It continues to amaze me today the there are good liberals who still fall for the Marxist line that they simpy want to eradicate social injustice and end racism. Liberals in a hurry as the saying goes.
These are totalitarians who reject every principle that liberals say they believe in.

Hey, didn’t a bomb accidentally go off in one of their hideouts, killing some of his cohorts? That doesn’t count either?
manwithblackhat on November 14, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Yes. Double jeopardy allows him to do this. He cannot be tried again for the same crime. Of course, were he white and did that, then the federal government would come and prosecute him for civil rights violations (a transparent and uncontitutional trick to get around double jeopardy), but being black, Simpson would have no fear of this happening.
progressoverpeace on November 14, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Wait and see; Ayers will be offered a government position in Obama’s government, rats that they all are
tocoloro on November 14, 2008 at 12:41 PM
When he speaks, he confirms the illusion that the media protected. I am hoping that at least a small percentage of the Obama followers had a V-8 moment this morning. Let all the characters in Obama’s world trot themselves out and spew their insanity. It will only confirm that the most shady character will be sitting in the Oval Office very soon.
sherry on November 14, 2008 at 12:43 PM
I don’t believe he would pal around with Obama, the notion of giving half his bombs to some other terrorist group would be untenable.
Also, I hope elected officials are scouring his personal records to release to the media, and caravans of reporters are talking to the kids of everyone he’s ever sat next to on a bus.
Alden Pyle on November 14, 2008 at 12:47 PM
So since they can’t deny his friendship with Obambi any more, now they are going to try to rehabillitate him?
This is truly audacity, though not really of hope. I don’t know how many people Bin Laden has personally killed either – but that’s not really the point is it?
holdfast on November 14, 2008 at 12:47 PM
ditto. He’s a cowardly little idealist who reminds me a lot of Charles Manson. Seems like they kind of thought along the same lines, only one of them rots in prison and the other just spouts rhetoric and annoints himself a scholar. We’re the only country that allows this to happen.

He says they didn’t target civilians, so that doesn’t make him a terrorist. Well, what does that make him? An enemy combatant? He wasn’t with any country that had declared war and he wasn’t part of any military so that won’t work.
I would ask Ayers what he would have called himself since terrorist doesn’t fit his definition.
I think self righteous, rich white kid, domestic gorilla-douche fits nicely.
RobertInLexington on November 14, 2008 at 12:50 PM
No. Not only that, you’re risking a ban from Hot Air if you even suggest such a thing, you extremist b@stard.
Only Ayers can get away with it. Period. You? If you get so much as a parking ticket, the state will track you to your grave and dig up your body to get their $50 fine.
And that’s the way it is.
saint kansas on November 14, 2008 at 12:51 PM
I seem to recall an FBI informant in their midst saying that they talked about how they might need to “disappear” as many as 25 MILLION Americans once they took power.
And as recently as a couple of years ago Ayers and his wife were STILL talking about bringing “revolutionary” change to America, and wouldn’t rule out the use of violence to accomplish it.
It would be really nice if these interviewers would do their homework.
ProfessorMiao on November 14, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Patterico and Ed tell me that talking about Ayers is ODS. Obama wouldn’t really govern as if he were influenced by an unrepentant domestic terrorist, would he? Nah. That’s crazy tinfoil hat DKOS paranoid talk.

They saw themselves as brother’s in arms with elements killing and torturing American boys in Vietnam, many that had been drafted at the average age of nineteen. This person is a traitor, and murderer and is laughing at this country in its inability to touch him for his crimes, plus be a family friend of the person that was elected to be president.
This country better shift its persona, or be prepared to lose its purpose.
Hening on November 14, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Among other things, it makes him a liar. The Fort Dix bombing would have killed and maimed the civilian dates and wives of the military men who were to have been their primary target.

Jim Treacher on November 14, 2008 at 1:00 PM
There’s an aspect to this relationship that’s untouchable in the MSM. The media is very sensitive to their privacy and they want to allow time to pass so America can “get over the terrorism thing” while still discussing it to inoculate us.
Soon the two good friends will be free to associate again over the next four years. Look how fast he came out of hiding for media tours and open admission of the family friendship. Add it up folks. Where is this going if the switch was flipped on election night? It’s about moving on quickly to normalizing him as Obama’s best friend. Soon he’ll be staying in the Lincoln bedroom and it won’t be a big deal. That’s where the story is going.

First of all, this was not the firestorm it should have been. What happend to Sarah Palin and her family at the hands of the liberal media was a firestorm, maybe “blitzkreig” is a better word for what they did.
And can anyone ever think that an admitted terrorist can set any record straight? He’s a criminal. If the FBI didn’t botch his case, he’d be in lockup for life.

Nope…bad teaching has nothing to do with the field. I’ve had some amazing teaching by scientists, and some awful teaching elsewhere (and in science, too, for that matter).
I’m a great teacher who also happens to be a great scientist. Why I do this instead of doing science frequently escapes me, but I remind myself I’m doing something important…right?
Right?
If I had a prof like Ayers in teacher school I’d have had a hard time. I had one that is close, and only the fact that I intimidated the heck out of him kept him from making my life hell.

From zombie’s Prarie Fire entry:
Page 16: The Weather Underground’s own list of their terrorist bombings and other crimes
On page 16 of Prairie Fire, Ayers and his fellow co-authors brag about their numerous acts of domestic terrorism, and provide a handy list detailing not only each crime but in most cases the justification for each crime as well. Note an important detail: Most of the stated rationales for the Weather Underground’s violent acts have nothing whatsoever to do with Vietnam. This disproves the ubiquitous media assertion that Ayers and the Weather Underground were “Vietnam War protesters.”
