Technically they’re not all senior citizens. But they are for these purposes.
Dude, I’m not sure I’d win.

I take it you find the movie by using IMDB’s “credited alongside another name” system.

The only thing that could save this thread are pictures of Palin in skimpy shorts.

If I don’t do the task about ten times I am useless. You should see me change the toner in the printer. Quite the idiot.
Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 7:16 PM
I just saw a caricature of myself.
How do I turn this thing off?
Saltysam on November 14, 2008 at 7:16 PM
Which three HotAir participants were those?
CyberCipher on November 14, 2008 at 7:17 PM
They’re better than the executives at most companies I’ve worked for! Half the exec’s don’t even have a computer in their office…their
secretariesexecutive administrators do everything for them, including most decision making. But they still get their multimillion dollar bonuses!

You better be careful before the wife turn a hose on you.

Ever watch someone under 30 try to dial their own number on a rotary dial phone?

How about a photo of Bill and Hill “dancing” on the beach in their swimsuits???
Then again, maybe not.

You, single-handedly, ruined my dinner.
Saltysam on November 14, 2008 at 7:43 PM
What is most disturbing to me, aside from the fact that I actually fricking clicked on that link, is that I scrolled down after viewing that picture. What the hell was I doing? Looking for MORE PICTURES?!?

Only in the most classic literal sense of the word. Is she not from Indiana?
Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 7:45 PM
Don’t worry. The National Youth Security Force will be along shortly. You won’t remember a thing.

AP, as always you amaze me in your ability to bring out the worst in us!
First, you insinuate we are computer illiterate (post itself).
Second, through the first, you make us want to prove otherwise.
Lastly, all of us having failed – miserably, you make us resort to posting pictures of HILLARY’S ASS to cover our own!
You are a devilish and cruel moderator!
FloridaBill on November 14, 2008 at 9:27 PM
Isn’t this adorable? Those Gosh-darned little rascals have found a way to make fun of us Old Folks. Who’da thunk it? You just know they’re way too hip to live until they’re 50.
Of course (Father, forgive me my schadenfreude) the delicious part of this is that 2/3 of their victims here are obvious Baby Boomers, the generation who as I recall blessed us all with the deathless motto “Never trust anyone over 30.”
I should be ashamed of myself. I’m not, as it happens, but I should be…

So hot!

I have a 86 year old client. One night she called me up. Talked her on how to do a task. 2 hours, took her so long to shut it down. She was pushing the power button, and waiting for it to shut down. She would bring it over because it was doing strange things. She drove me crazy. Then she bought another one, because she didn’t like the Compaq. I cringe when she calls me.
sheebe on November 14, 2008 at 10:27 PM
Dear Sheebe,
Speaking as one who has done years of support, as well as standup computer training, I’d say that if you can’t communicate with a student or client the first thing to change is your approach.
Try to remember they’re not being paid to understand you. It’s your job to understand them.
Troubleshooting 101.

Try teaching an old lady with Alzheimer. I go to her home, and it is hot as a oven. She is only client that no one, including you couldn’t get through to her. She forgets she is sitting at the computer. Is sad, but am not a nurse. I have a lot of clients, they don’t go anywhere else. Standup Computer Training? Where are you from? Been at this for years. Could brag about my qualities. But, technology changes daily. You couldn’t even claim that. Is why Computer Techs are mostly morons that think they are. One has to research every day to keep up. Don’t have time for students. She was the only one that I felt sorry for. She is old and ill. I worked for Jorgens in Montecito, took care of all systems. My clients are hand picked. Most are upscale people that don’t like to be in public. I build custom systems, servers and I also do software.
sheebe on November 15, 2008 at 12:45 AM
Sounds like an awful situation, all right. Maybe you should fire her? It’s just that you sound so strung out and unhappy about it.
I can definitely recall clients I couldn’t make it with, even priding myself as I do on my teaching knack. Hard to maintain good boundaries when it means admitting I can’t do something, but it always seemed kindest to all concerned to bag it.
It really does sound like you don’t have time for students with all you do. I was lucky enough to make a good buck teaching desktop software up through MSProject, which kept me busy without having to do tech stuff simultaneously.
You’re right, you shouldn’t be her nurse. Just say no?
Good luck.

Software is real interesting. At times that can be a real challenge. That can take a lot of time. Olga is the old lady’s name. I give Seniors a discount. I charge 130.00 an hour. But only charged her 65.00. She was wealthy but I felt like I was taking advantage of her. Money goes quick these days. My friend who is her Great Niece, told me that she lost a lot of money in stocks. So, her Great niece knows to call me. If her computer is messed up. She gave me her compaq. I sold it to this young kid. Upgraded the memory. It rocks, nothing was wrong with it. I love older people, but my nerves get the best of me. Sounds like you are a nerd like myself. Saw your above post. Age is what makes wine. The older, the better! I am up there and I love it.

Quite lame video. I’m pretty comupter literate at 51 and my 78 year old Dad can beat my socks off. The difference is that he actually reads the instructions to find out all the functions and I just open mine up, find the power button and go to town. He used to call me for help, now he scoffs at me for having to ask him for help.

To cute! You are lucky. Wish my father was alive still. Just keep on your computer. You will be surprised how much you will start to learn. Trust me. You will learn. Kim Komando, has a National Radio show. She is the digital goddess. She has a very informative web-site. You can write her, and she does answer. She can be very helpful! I love her. Keep on trucking on your computer.

I’m at home with my parents now until I leave for my new job in Asia in December. I have my computer set up in the library room downstairs. My 82 year old father took an interest in computers because he wanted to keep up on his investments and look up information on the web.
He’s getting the hang of it. I woke up the other night at 3:00 AM in the morning and found him on the computer looking up information on arthritis. I’m really impressed that he’s still eager to learn something so new even at his age. My mother is impressed also. I have some good genes. And sheebe, thank you for your comment about your father. I’ve treasured every moment with my parents at their age. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Big John, my father is the same way. He reads instruction booklets all the way through! Your father doesn’t sound like he needs them, but for anyone else with senior parents, books by Visual Steps (www.visualsteps.com) for Seniors are VERY GOOD. They have large print and large printscreens as they step the user through tasks, step by step. My father’s copy of “Internet and E-mail for SENIORS with Windows Vista” is in front of me now. It looks like it’s getting pretty good use.
I leave in December but am leaving my desktop here. Dad will get some good use out of it.
All the best!
