Interesting. Yep. Those stars are very far away, there’s no question… I believe about 6,000 years ago God created the heavens and the earth. In doing so He created a full grown universe. The Lord said, “I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded” (Isaiah 45:12). The stars are many light-years away, but they are are not billions of years old. Not saying you said they were, just stating my position. The God that I worship is able to make a full-grown man, in a full grown garden, and full grown universe.

Yes, sir. That’s right (smiles).

Okay. Here we go. In Matthew 24 the disciples ask Jesus for signs of the last days and His return:

“And as he (Jesus) sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matthew 24:1

Jesus gave them a list of general signs (a rise in natural disasters, false christs, wars & rumours of war, etc) in verses 4 to 31, but in verse 32 He says something different. With this simple warning He said:

“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” Matthew 24:32-34

Jesus tells them to learn the parable (or a lesson) of the fig tree. He says when its branch becomes tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. In other words, His return is near. He is using the budding of the fig tree to illustrate a point about His second coming.

So our next question is what is the meaning contained in the parable of the fig tree? Who is the fig tree? Because when we see it (the fig tree is a symbol of something) we would know that certain things are near. Well, I believe the fig tree symbolizes Israel. And when his branch is yet tender, means that Israel became a country again. The reblossoming of the fig tree started in 1948 when the nation of Israel was re-established. I believe this because throughout the Bible the fig tree is figuratively used as a symbol for the nation of Israel. With that in mind, let’s look at Jesus’ parable of the fig tree again:

“Now learn a parable (or lesson) of the fig tree (Israel); When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves (when Israeli comes forth, springs to life), ye know that summer is nigh (you know that certain things are near): So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, (like rebirth of Israel, and the list of things that Jesus gives in the previous verses) know that (or recognize) it is near, (Christ’s return is near) even at the doors. Verily I say unto you (the truth), this generation shall not pass (away), till all these things be fulfilled (or happen).” Matthew 24:32-34

What “generation shall not pass”? This one, the one that we are living in, the one that started in 1948. The generation of the fig tree began on May 14, 1948 when Israel once again became a nation. That is, this generation will not have completely died away until all these things have taken place (”all these things” meaning the Rapture, Battle of Armageddon, the return of Jesus Christ, etc!). All these things will happen during the period of this generation. And according to Psalm 90:10 a normal lifespan (that is, a generation) is approx. 70-80 years — it says an average lifespan is usually 70 years, and occasionally in the range of 80, if one were in good health.

So, based on this (and other prophecies not listed here) my rough estimation for the rapture and the return of Christ is as follows: (Note: The Second coming of Christ occurs at least 7 years after the rapture. Jesus will rapture His church before the tribulation period begins):

1948 + 70 years = 2018. (a rough estimation according to a generation of 70 years)

Or if a generations stretches to 80 years,

1948 + 80 years = 2028. (a rough estimation according to a generation of 80 years)

That’s my guess.

The Bible says, “When the Lord builds up Zion (Israel), He shall appear in His glory.” Psalms 102:16

He did that in 1948 with the establishment of Israel as a nation. Now, we wait for His other promises. I believe that soon and very soon, we will see this day come. Come now Lord Jesus.

No worries. As I mentioned, I go by May 14, 1948, as the day Israel became a nation again (for the first time after 2500 years). This was the date the British gave up the land they were in charge of since the First World War under a mandate from the old League of Nations. Within 24hrs of that Israel declared its independence, and its independence was acknowledged by other nations. The state of Israel was literally born in a single day! Fulfilling yet another prophecy when the prophet Isaiah spoke of Israel being reborn in one day:

“Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion (Israel) travailed (is in labor), she brought forth her children (she gives birth to her children).” Isaiah 66:7-8

God had promised that the impossible would happen.

‘For I will take you (Jews) from among the nations and gather you out of all lands, and will gather you into your own land’. Ezekiel 36:24.

And it happened!!

If we are not exhibiting good works and claim to be saved, our testimony is empty.

Correct. And that was my point. A true Christian cannot remain carnal for an entire lifetime. Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits (by what they do and say).” If somebody’s swearing all the time and having premarital sex left and right it’s unlikely that that person has been converted. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that when we are in Christ, we are a “new creation.” If you are truly saved then it will be known by your works – the things you do. Paul says, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves” (2 Corinthians 13:5). That’s very good advice. Here. This is a short video on the subject even though it sounds to me like you understand it quite well. Thank you.

Since, as I’ve said, I lean toward Partial Preterism, the dates have little significance to me (except as my parents’ anniversary), so I don’t know if any millenialists would make much of this:

On May 14, 1948, the state of Israel was declared in the Tel Aviv Museum.

. . .

The new state-in-the-making had no name until May 15.

The Jerusalem government issued stamps showing the territory mandated to the Jewish state under the UN Partition Plan, and bearing the inscription “State of the Jews” – Medinat Hayehudim.

When Paul writes that salvation is by fatih and not by works, he is referring to the position to which we attain, and only by faith do we attain that position. God imputes his righteouness to us and we are reckoned perfectly righteous.

When James writes that we are not saved by faith alone but by works, he is referring to our experience. If we are not exhibiting good works and claim to be saved, our testimony is empty. We should be consistently growing up into the full stature of Jesus Christ. This progression is called sanctification.

A more technical way of putting it: Paul is speaking ontologically, and James is experientially.

That is, our souls go to heaven – our bodies remain in the grave.

David’s correct. We are saved by GRACE ONLY, but to receive that free gift of salvation we must repent and do what God says. It’s not enough to just believe in God. The Bible says, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble” (James 2:19). The demons believe in God. Satan believes in God. Anyone can believe in God. Many unbelievers say, “I believe in God,” or “I believe in Jesus,” or perhaps some might say, “I prayed a prayer and the preacher said I was saved.” That was me for many years. I thought I was saved, but there had not been a true conversion in my life. With true salvation comes genuine repentance and real life change.You have to do what God says. Now do you know how to partake in that gift of salvation? Do you know what you should do? Well, if you were on a plane and you knew you had to jump and there was a parachute under the seat, what would you do? Put it on. You wouldn’t just believe in it would you, you’d put it on. That’s exactly what you have to do with Jesus. The Bible says “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:11-14). You gotta repent. That is turn from your sins once and for all, and put your faith in Jesus the same way you put your trust in a parachute. The moment you do that the Bible says you’ll pass from death to life. You’ll come out of darkness into light, and you receive God’s gift of everlasting life.
