Quotes of the day

“The tall, frail Christoffersen stood in the center of the group. She appeared to be shaking during her prepared remarks which lasted about 3 minutes. Two young female family members flanked her to prevent her from fainting, according to a restaurant employee. At several points during her speech, Christoffersen simply became too emotional to continue.”

Duh. H8 = 8. I saw signs in spanish with it and couldn’t figure out what they were protesting. Probably not good for their side.

Careful with those references to Nazi Germany. We don’t want to appear to have a disapproved “derangement syndrome.”

I’m really struggling here on this. My libertarian side wants me to remember that liberty is the cornerstone of our society. The state will abuse and misuse the powers we give it (since, after all, the state is run by flawed humans).
But my conservative/traditionalist side is suggesting to me that there’s a reason why the West has treated homosexuality harshly. And it’s not just religiously based (Leviticus and all that). All that could be wrong; but I can’t just dismiss it out of hand.
Individual freedom – liberty versus tradition and history.
I’m not saying – emphatically not – that gay people should be locked up or imprisoned. No, no, no…

Dirty Harry at DHP has discussed “Passioning”, the ranting when The Passion of the Christ came out, intended to intimdate anybody else from trying to make such a film. This Prop 8 brownshirt stuff is just the same.
For those confused, these protests are not about changing minds to win support, they are about exposing their enemies and pre-empting potential opponents through fear.

I posted this on the other thread about these marches and now the “black list” that the left is suppose to be against, unless it serves their purpose. I stand by it.
I still want to know why I have to be privy to ANYONE’S sexual orientation. How can I discriminate against gays if I don’t know they are gay? Make whatever legal contracts you need to make to be financially and institutionally bound to protect each other, it’s fine. This is not about discrimination it is about setting the gay community up as a beleaguered political minority thereby being given special treatment that will escalate into more “thought” control laws. No one wants to hurt gays, but they won’t be happy until we are not only forced to accept but glorify their life and I shouldn’t even know about their lives. Gays or straight, what happened to manners and privacy?

Remember,it’s okay to hate if you are a liberal because you
are “morally superior” to everyone else.
Liberals can wage war against a country that has not attacked us and is not an immanent threat (Bosnia/Kosovo)and they want to go into Darfur.
But taking out one of History’s worst genocidal terrorist dictators (Saddam) is a war crime.
Liberals can attack Church’s,parishioners, recruiting offices, people with different political views,Blacks,Hispanics, business’s,cars, even elderly people walking down the street.
All in the name of tolerance and freedom of speech.
The media cannot continue to sugar coat the hatred and bigotry of the far left any longer.

When are these intellectuals going to start protesting against Obama.

Will they call him the right wing religious nut that they

HOPEFULS DIFFER AS THEY DEBATE GAY MARRIAGE

Published: October 31, 2008
Several gay friends and wealthy gay donors to Senator Barack Obama have asked him over the years why, as a matter of logic and fairness, he opposes same-sex marriage even though he has condemned old miscegenation laws that would have barred his black father from marrying his white mother.
No the liberals won’t be in any Black or Hispanic neighborhoods spreading their hate just like you will never

It’s the church’s and the people who pray in them that are their real enemies.

As a libertarian, I don’t give a hoot who gets married and if asked this question in a vacuum I would say – there should be no law preventing gays from getting married. As well as there shouldn’t be a law preventing a man marrying a horse or a car either.
At its core, marriage, as understood by most people, is a religious ceremony whereby two people are joined, recognized by the church, their friends and families. If two people want to call themselves married, who cares? The problem for us libertarians, as with most laws, is that we cannot get there from here. Because the state imposed itself on the definition of marriage, and wads of money (and make no mistake, this is what it boils down to) are exchanged based on the state’s recognition of a spouse (SS benefits specifically, but many other reasons as well) – then the state starts to care who is considered married. Because the state got involved in so many things that it shouldn’t have, libertarians have trouble supporting true individual liberty without looking like a retard – i.e. legalizing drugs. Sure I think drugs should be legal in a perfect world, but the way it is now, they cannot be because I would end up paying for junkies who O.D. and are treated in rehab or the E.R. So, outlawing gay marriage? Kill the leviathan and then I will say sure, who cares.

Why can’t anyone ever say, “This is The United States of America and I made a donation to a political cause that I support. I will not apologize for it.”
That’s a business owner that I would go out of my way to support.
Shaking a business down for $10,000 because the owner made a $100 donation with her own money is ridiculous. That these owners are all caving in is even more ridiculous.

2) It’s a celebrated minority
3) They’re oppressing others
4) No one is depriving any man of his right to marry a woman
5) Prepare for legal consequences to your negative consequences

Religious_Zealot on November 14, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Question for you MNDavenotPC – What happens if the will of the people wanted to allow gay marriage. Would you be okay with that? What if the will of the people was to outlaw Christianity? Would you be for the will of the people then? I don’t ask to start a fight with you. I am just making the point that our country was actually founded on the principle that all people are endowed with the rights of life, liberty, and property and that the government was created to secure those rights operating under the guidelines of the U.S. Constitution and State Constitutions. And regardless of the will of the people, those rights cannot be violated by the majority or the government.

1) It’s called ‘terrorism’ when you violently attack people for engaging in their right to vote and have an opinion.
2) The only ‘bigotry’ occurring here is the bigotry from the ‘tolerance’ crowd who has shown yet again that they will forcefully demand from others what they themselves do not/will not practice (tolerance, love, peaceful protesting, etc.).
3) Please go back to civics class. Marriage is NOT a right and whatever specials rights, privileges and responsibilities CA gives married couples are ALSO given to those joined by ‘civil unions.’ Thus these dangerous idiots are not fighting for ‘rights’, but for a particular governmental label.
4) These nutjobs should be prepared for the ‘blowback’ of their ‘negative consequences.’ Of course, as long as they continue to pick on old ladies and one of the most pacifistic religions in the world (LDS), they won’t have to worry too much about retaliation. However, if they REALLY meant what they said, they would march in Watts instead of downtown San Fran. Or instead of attacking and disrupting LDS church services, they attempt to disrupt a black liberation church. Or instead of burning the book of mormon, they burn the koran on the steps of a mosque.

Just watched the vid. There is nothing wrong with wanting to preserve the definition of marriage, and it’s sickening that supporters of this proposition are being made to feel apologetic for their views.
I saw a liberal talk show host’s blog today, where he was discussing this. Someone asked him what would prevent the definition of marriage from being further degraded, beyond two adult human beings. The answer? Why, to make sure the definition doesn’t change again, of course.
Huh?
How about not changing it in the first place?
There is no compelling reason for the gay community to demand this, and to be dissatisfied with simply having civil unions, except to attack another group – the religious. None that I’ve heard, anyway.
capitalist piglet on November 14, 2008 at 11:36 PM
If you are an oppressed minority based on your sexual preference, how would I know that? And I don’t need to know anyone’s sexual orientation. Get over yourself.
Cindy Munford on November 14, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Well, same sex/gay people can get married just about anywhere in this country. Or they can simply call themselves married.
The question is whether the state will recognize that marriage legally and extend the same benefits/privileges that an opposite sex married couple receive.
One doesn’t have a “right” to get married in the sense that the state is obligated to recognize that contract. If the state/government got out of the marriage business (no benefits, tax deductions, spousal visitation rights, et cetera) that wouldn’t mean one couldn’t get married. It would only mean that the state wouldn’t recognize that marriage for state purposes.
So, it seems to me the debate is not whether gay people have the “right” to get married. The issue is whether the state will extend the same benefits that opposite sex married couples have to same sex married couples.
SteveMG on November 14, 2008 at 11:37 PM

Considering that along with the fact that they are targeting churches…
…along with that little dustup with the old lady who dared, DARED I TELL YOU!!!, to bring a cross to a Prop-8 protest rally…
…and it’s hard to come away with any other conclusion than the pro-homosexual lobby is engaged in a wholesale war on religion.

The good news is, many No on 8 supporters are really starting to sour on this boycott, not to mention the recent tactics of protesters.
This “movement” is going to either destroy itself from within or cooler heads will begin to prevail.
I think the next few days will give us our answer
The Ugly American on November 14, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Why not just give them marriage and the rest of us take civil unions? Which is what we have anyway, when we apply for a license with the government. You will then see a fight by the homosexual community for civil unions.

HawaiiLwyr on November 14, 2008 at 11:44 PM
As I understand it, they don’t have the same tax benefits/deductions as a married couple filing a joint return do.
I may be wrong on that.
But you do zero in on the main point: it’s the name.
If we came up with an alternative to marriage – let’s call it “carriage” (to pick a name) for same sex couples – and said that every benefit that a married heterosexual couple had would be given to a same sex couple, that would still be rejected.
They want the word “marriage” and all that it carries. They won’t accept any other term or name even if that term is equal legally to marriage.

My prediction (and I hope I’m wrong):
This Sunday they’ll disrupt a whole lot of churches. In one of them, a church member carrying a gun will open fire and kill one of the protesters. This, in turn, will ratchet up the violence from the Prop-8 opponents who will then have a martyr to celebrate (which is what I think they’re really looking for).
Religious_Zealot on November 14, 2008 at 11:45 PM

grtflmark on November 14, 2008 at 11:46 PM
Agreed.
Which means that this is NOT about ‘rights’, but about a name – a label.
And the only thing I can think of that is so vitally important about that particular label is its religious underpinnings.
I mean, is it really far fetched to think that it is a small, a VERY small step from changing the definition of marriage to making unlawful for churches to deny marrying homosexuals?

The older woman who owns that place has been facing a serious intimidation campaign from these people. I’ve read a couple of (gay people’s) blogs about the original confrontation and protest, and it’s just awful how they treated her over a $100 donation.
